    Cloud Computing Adoption in Organizations: A Literature Review and a Unifying Model

    Cloud computing is an attractive proposition to organizations because of its expected benefits. However, its perceived risks and challenges may discourage adoption. This trade-off between benefits and risks creates a dilemma on whether or how to approach cloud adoption. This study aims to advance the understanding of cloud computing adoption in organizations and proposes a unifying model of cloud adoption. A systematic literature review was employed to investigate the adoption factors studied in previous empirical settings. The review identified 41 primary studies and yielded a hierarchical cloud adoption model. The identified factors are in line with the technology-organization-environment framework and with the diffusion of innovation model, but new insights into the dimensions relevant to cloud adoption emerged from literature. For example, system availability and reliability, cost effectiveness, privacy and security, top management support, and market pressure are among the factors influencing adoption. Implications and future research are discussed

    KEY FACTORS INCREASING THE TRUST AND INTENTION TO ADOPT STANDARD CLOUD-BASED APPLICATIONS

    A generic standard cloud-based application such as Google Docs are generally among the first to be considered for adoption by end-users. Thus, it is worthy to examine what factors influence trust and the intention of continuing use for such a cloud-based application. Unlike traditional, on-premise applications, familiarity is not an issue for trusting generic, simple cloud-based applications. Moreover, perceived risk is low enough that it has negative, as opposed to the usual positive, impact on trust and the intention of continuing use. The results of this study also imply that the agile adoption of standard cloud-based applications needs to consider factors, including perceived privacy control, system quality, and user satisfaction because these factors can increase the trust of users. Theoretical and practical implications were drawn from the findings of this study

    Factors influencing cloud computing adoption in small and medium enterprises

    Cloud computing offers information technology (IT) infrastructure, platform, and various applications via the Internet with minimum start-up cost, network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources, and pay-per-use services. Although the potential for cloud computing is evident and much of the extant research has been carried out on cloud computing adoption, empirical studies on the factors that influence cloud computing adoption in the Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are, however, lacking. The objective of this study was to examine the factors that influence cloud computing adoption by the SMEs.We conducted a quantitative survey-based study to examine the relationship between perceived benefits, top management support, IT resources, external pressure, and cloud computing adoption.A free-form comment provided at the end of each section of the survey questionnaire was treated as qualitative data. We find that IT resources and external pressure significantly influence cloud computing adoption. Nonetheless, there is not enough evidence to support perceived benefits and top management support as significant factors of cloud computing adoption

    Mestrado em Gestão de Sistemas de InformaçãoDue to the rapid global spread of the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus, companies and institutions were forced to take precautionary measures to reduce the risk of contagion, such as asking employees to work remotely from their homes. In this scenario, cloud computing technology has proven to be a great ally of companies to overcome the crisis caused by the pandemic.The adoption of Cloud Computing technology has accelerated in recent years and, according to a forecast made by the International Data Corporation (IDC), investment in cloud services will exceed US 1.0trillionin2024,whichrepresentsarateofannualgrowthof15.7 1.0 trillion in 2024, which represents a rate of annual growth of 15.7% (Villars et al., 2020).In an attempt to help organizations plan their strategies for adopting cloud computing, the present study intends to contribute to the existing literature on the subject, aiming to identify the main factors that influence the adoption of such technology during the Covid-19 pandemic crises.For this purpose, 18 factors identified during the literature review and were presented to 11 experts in the field of cloud computing technology, in order to seek a consensus regarding the order of importance of these factors.Through the Delphi method, divided into two phases and with two rounds, a list was obtained, ordered according to the degree of importance of the main factors that influence the adoption of cloud computing. After analyzing the data, the results obtained show that the six most important factors are: (1) Adoption, Migration and Acquisition Cost; (2) Availability and Accessibility; (3) Scalability; (4) Cost of Data Confidentiality and Availability Loss; (5) Security and (6) Customization.Devido à rápida disseminação global da pandemia causada pelo novo coronavírus, empresas e instituições foram forçadas a tomar medidas de precaução para reduzir o risco de contágio, como pedir aos funcionários que trabalhassem remotamente das suas casas. Nesse cenário, a tecnologia de computação em nuvem tem se mostrado uma grande aliada das empresas para superar a crise provocada pela pandemia.A adoção de Computação em Nuvem tem se acelerado nos últimos anos e, segundo previsão da International Data Corporation (IDC), os investimentos em serviços em nuvem ultrapassarão US 1,0 milhão de bilhões em 2024, o que representa uma taxa de crescimento anual de 15,7% (Villars et al., 2020).Na tentativa de auxiliar as organizações no planeamento das suas estratégias de adoção da computação em nuvem, o presente estudo pretende contribuir com a literatura existente sobre o assunto, e tem como objetivo de identificar os principais fatores que influenciam a adoção dessa tecnologia durante a crise pandêmicas de Covid-19.Nesse sentido, 18 fatores identificados durante a revisão da literatura foram apresentados a 11 especialistas na área de tecnologia de computação em nuvem, a fim de encontrar um consenso quanto à ordem de importância desses fatores.Através do método Delphi, dividido em duas fases e com duas rondas, foi obtida uma lista ordenada de acordo com o grau de importância dos principais fatores que influenciam a adoção da computação em nuvem.     A cloud-based supply chain management system: effects on supply chain responsiveness

    Purpose: Despite the ongoing calls for the incorporation of the cloud utility model, the effect of the cloud on elements of supply chain performance is still an evolving area of research. In this paper, we develop the architecture of a cloud-based supply chain management (C-SCM) ecosystem and explore how it enhances supply chain responsiveness. Design/methodology/approach: First, we discuss the potential benefits that cloud computing can yield compared to existing mature SCM information systems and solutions through a comprehensive literature review. We conceptualize SCR in terms of the level of visibility in the supply chain, supply chain flexibility, and rapid detection and reaction to changes and then we build the detailed architecture of a cloud based SCM system. The proposed ecosystem introduces a view of SCM and the associated practices when transferred to cloud environments. The potential to enhance SCR through the cloud is explored with scenarios on a case of supply chain operations in fashion retail industry. Findings: Our findings show that the proposed system can enhance all three dimensions of SCR. Implications for supply chain practice and how companies can migrate to a cloud supply chain are drawn. Originality/Value: Given that the development, creation, and delivery of goods and services is increasingly becoming a joint effort of several parties in a supply chain, we contribute to existing literature, by introducing a comprehensive cloud-based SCM system and show how companies can enhance their supply chain responsiveness

    Pricing the Cloud: An Auction Approach

    Cloud computing has changed the processing and service modes of information communication technology and has affected the transformation, upgrading and innovation of the IT-related industry systems. The rapid development of cloud computing in business practice has spawned a whole new field of interdisciplinary, providing opportunities and challenges for business management research. One of the critical factors impacting cloud computing is how to price cloud services. An appropriate pricing strategy has important practical means to stakeholders, especially to providers and customers. This study addressed and discussed research findings on cloud computing pricing strategies, such as fixed pricing, bidding pricing, and dynamic pricing. Another key factor for cloud computing is Quality of Service (QoS), such as availability, reliability, latency, security, throughput, capacity, scalability, elasticity, etc. Cloud providers seek to improve QoS to attract more potential customers; while, customers intend to find QoS matching services that do not exceed their budget constraints. Based on the existing study, a hybrid QoS-based pricing mechanism, which consists of subscription and dynamic auction design, is proposed and illustrated to cloud services. The results indicate that our hybrid pricing mechanism has potential to better allocate available cloud resources, aiming at increasing revenues for providers and reducing expenses for customers in practice

    Having clear person-centred information guidelines relevant to a person’s unique situation are essential components to continued care following a hospital stay. Rising pressure on health services to discharge patients earlier is placing patients at risk. Patients’ ability to absorb information whilst in hospital can be significantly impaired under pressure and patients often return home with inadequate information to support recovery. To date the problem of patients returning to hospital following discharge has not been looked at from the perspective of person–centred information provision and the extent to which better quality, timing and delivery of information (what and when provided) could reduce the rate of return. This case study uses a series of longitudinal interviews and Roy’s Adaption Model, to examine the question: What are patients’ unique person-centred information needs at three critical time points pre- and post -discharge and how can individually focused information systems better satisfy these needs
