    Evolutionary programming with q-Gaussian mutation for dynamic optimization problems

In the proposed method, the q-Gaussian distribution is employed to generate new candidate solutions by mutation. A real parameter q, which defines the shape of the distribution, is encoded in the chromosome of individuals and is allowed to evolve. Algorithms with self-adapted mutation generated from isotropic and anisotropic distributions are presented.     Self-adaptation of mutation distribution in evolutionary algorithms

    This paper is posted here with permission from IEEE - Copyright @ 2007 IEEEThis paper proposes a self-adaptation method to control not only the mutation strength parameter, but also the mutation distribution for evolutionary algorithms. For this purpose, the isotropic g-Gaussian distribution is employed in the mutation operator. The g-Gaussian distribution allows to control the shape of the distribution by setting a real parameter g and can reproduce either finite second moment distributions or infinite second moment distributions. In the proposed method, the real parameter q of the g-Gaussian distribution is encoded in the chromosome of an individual and is allowed to evolve. An evolutionary programming algorithm with the proposed idea is presented. Experiments were carried out to study the performance of the proposed algorithm

The shape of the q-Gaussian mutation distribution is controlled by a real parameter q. In the proposed method, the real parameter q of the q-Gaussian mutation is encoded in the chromosome of individuals and hence is allowed to evolve during the evolutionary process. In order to test the new mutation operator, evolution strategy and evolutionary programming algorithms with self-adapted q-Gaussian mutation generated from anisotropic and isotropic distributions are presented. The theoretical analysis of the q-Gaussian mutation is also provided. In the experimental study, the q-Gaussian mutation is compared to Gaussian and Cauchy mutations in the optimization of a set of test functions.     A similarity-based cooperative co-evolutionary algorithm for dynamic interval multi-objective optimization problems

The Publisher's final version can be found by following the DOI link.Dynamic interval multi-objective optimization problems (DI-MOPs) are very common in real-world applications. However, there are few evolutionary algorithms that are suitable for tackling DI-MOPs up to date. A framework of dynamic interval multi-objective cooperative co-evolutionary optimization based on the interval similarity is presented in this paper to handle DI-MOPs. In the framework, a strategy for decomposing decision variables is first proposed, through which all the decision variables are divided into two groups according to the interval similarity between each decision variable and interval parameters. Following that, two sub-populations are utilized to cooperatively optimize decision variables in the two groups. Furthermore, two response strategies, rgb0.00,0.00,0.00i.e., a strategy based on the change intensity and a random mutation strategy, are employed to rapidly track the changing Pareto front of the optimization problem. The proposed algorithm is applied to eight benchmark optimization instances rgb0.00,0.00,0.00as well as a multi-period portfolio selection problem and compared with five state-of-the-art evolutionary algorithms. The experimental results reveal that the proposed algorithm is very competitive on most optimization instances

    Evolutionary-based sparse regression for the experimental identification of duffing oscillator

    In this paper, an evolutionary-based sparse regression algorithm is proposed and applied onto experimental data collected from a Duffing oscillator setup and numerical simulation data. Our purpose is to identify the Coulomb friction terms as part of the ordinary differential equation of the system. Correct identification of this nonlinear system using sparse identification is hugely dependent on selecting the correct form of nonlinearity included in the function library. Consequently, in this work, the evolutionary-based sparse identification is replacing the need for user knowledge when constructing the library in sparse identification. Constructing the library based on the data-driven evolutionary approach is an effective way to extend the space of nonlinear functions, allowing for the sparse regression to be applied on an extensive space of functions. The results show that the method provides an effective algorithm for the purpose of unveiling the physical nature of the Duffing oscillator. In addition, the robustness of the identification algorithm is investigated for various levels of noise in simulation. The proposed method has possible applications to other nonlinear dynamic systems in mechatronics, robotics, and electronics
