Survival of dominated strategies under evolutionary dynamics
We prove that any deterministic evolutionary dynamic satisfying four mild requirements fails to eliminate strictly dominated strategies in some games. We also show that existing elimination results for evolutionary dynamics are not robust to small changes in the specifications of the dynamics. Numerical analysis reveals that dominated strategies can persist at nontrivial frequencies even when the level of domination is not small.Evolutionary game theory, evolutionary game dynamics, nonconvergnece, dominated strategies
Information Technology of Software Architecture Structural Synthesis of Information System
Information technology of information system software architecture structural synthesis is proposed. It is used for evolutionary models of the software lifecycle, which provides configuration and formation of software to control the realization and recovery of computing processes in parallel and distributed computing resources structures. The technology is applied in the framework of the software requirements analysis, design of architecture, design and integration of software. Method of combining vertices for multilevel graph model of software architecture and automata-based method of checking performance limitations to software are based on the advanced graph model of software architecture. These methods are proposed in the framework of information technology and allow forming a rational structure of the program, as well as checking for compliance with the functional and non-functional requirements of the end user. The essence of proposed information technology is in displaying of the customer's requirements in the current version of the graph model of program complex structure and providing a reconfiguration of the system modules. This process is based on the analysis and processing of the graph model, software module specifications, formation of software structure in accordance with the graph model, software verification and its compilation

Environmental Innovations and Industrial Dynamics (In French)
This article presents an empirical and theoretical analysis of environmental innovations in an evolutionary framework. Such an evolutionary analysis enables us to develop a dynamic analysis of environmental innovations emphasizing their multidimensional character and their evolution along technological trajectories embedded in dominant technological paradigms. In this perspective, environmental innovations appear as technological compromises which aim at combining regulatory objectives and environmental performances with productivity and competitiveness objectives of firms. The sectoral analyses presented in the first section illustrate these concepts, in particular the trajectories of clean technology and the sources of technological lock-in in the automotive industry and in green chemistry. In section 2, we focus on the role of demand and of environmental quality requirements in vertical relationships between firms. We present an evolutionary model of industrial dynamics which explicitly takes into account innovative activities of suppliers and environmental requirements of industrial clients. Simulation results underscore the determining role of demand in technological paradigm shifts, and more particularly the role of a critical mass of users characterized by high environmental requirements and high willingness to pay.environmental innovations; technological trajectories and paradigms; technological compromises; industrial dynamics and evolutionary simulation models
A multi-color and Fourier study of RR Lyrae variables in the globular cluster NGC 5272 (M3)
We have performed a detailed study of the pulsational and evolutionary
characteristics of 133 RR Lyrae stars in the globular cluster NGC5272 (M3)
using highly accurate BVI data taken on 5 separate epochs. M3 seems to contain
no less than ~32% of Blazhko stars, and the occurrence and characteristics of
the Blazhko effect have been analyzed in detail. We have identified a good
number (~ 14%) of overluminous RR Lyrae stars that are likely in a more
advanced evolutionary stage off the Zero Age Horizontal Branch (ZAHB). Physical
parameters (i.e. temperature, luminosity, mass) have been derived from (B--V)
colors and accurate color-temperature calibration, and compared with Horizontal
Branch evolutionary models and with the requirements of stellar pulsation
theory. Additional analysis by means of Fourier decomposition of the V light
curves confirms, as expected, that no metallicity spread is present in M3.
Evolution off the ZAHB does not affect [Fe/H] determinations, whereas Blazhko
stars at low amplitude phase do affect [Fe/H] distributions as they appear more
metal-rich. Absolute magnitudes derived from Fourier coefficients might provide
useful average estimates for groups of stars, if applicable, but do not give
reliable {\em individual} values. Intrinsic colors derived from Fourier
coefficients show significant discrepancies with the observed ones, hence the
resulting temperatures and temperature-related parameters are unreliable.Comment: 86 pages, 19 figures, 13 tables, in press A
A synthesis of logic and bio-inspired techniques in the design of dependable systems
Much of the development of model-based design and dependability analysis in the design of dependable systems, including software intensive systems, can be attributed to the application of advances in formal logic and its application to fault forecasting and verification of systems. In parallel, work on bio-inspired technologies has shown potential for the evolutionary design of engineering systems via automated exploration of potentially large design spaces. We have not yet seen the emergence of a design paradigm that effectively combines these two techniques, schematically founded on the two pillars of formal logic and biology, from the early stages of, and throughout, the design lifecycle. Such a design paradigm would apply these techniques synergistically and systematically to enable optimal refinement of new designs which can be driven effectively by dependability requirements. The paper sketches such a model-centric paradigm for the design of dependable systems, presented in the scope of the HiP-HOPS tool and technique, that brings these technologies together to realise their combined potential benefits. The paper begins by identifying current challenges in model-based safety assessment and then overviews the use of meta-heuristics at various stages of the design lifecycle covering topics that span from allocation of dependability requirements, through dependability analysis, to multi-objective optimisation of system architectures and maintenance schedules
The space of ultrametric phylogenetic trees
The reliability of a phylogenetic inference method from genomic sequence data
is ensured by its statistical consistency. Bayesian inference methods produce a
sample of phylogenetic trees from the posterior distribution given sequence
data. Hence the question of statistical consistency of such methods is
equivalent to the consistency of the summary of the sample. More generally,
statistical consistency is ensured by the tree space used to analyse the
sample.
In this paper, we consider two standard parameterisations of phylogenetic
time-trees used in evolutionary models: inter-coalescent interval lengths and
absolute times of divergence events. For each of these parameterisations we
introduce a natural metric space on ultrametric phylogenetic trees. We compare
the introduced spaces with existing models of tree space and formulate several
formal requirements that a metric space on phylogenetic trees must possess in
order to be a satisfactory space for statistical analysis, and justify them. We
show that only a few known constructions of the space of phylogenetic trees
satisfy these requirements. However, our results suggest that these basic
requirements are not enough to distinguish between the two metric spaces we
introduce and that the choice between metric spaces requires additional
properties to be considered. Particularly, that the summary tree minimising the
square distance to the trees from the sample might be different for different
parameterisations. This suggests that further fundamental insight is needed
into the problem of statistical consistency of phylogenetic inference methods.Comment: Minor changes. This version has been published in JTB. 27 pages, 9

Proposed CTV design reference missions in support of Space Station Freedom
Use of design reference missions (DRM's) for the cargo transfer vehicle (CTV) in support of Space Station Freedom (SSF) can provide a common baseline for the design and assessment of CTV systems and mission operations. These DRM's may also provide baseline operations scenarios for integrated CTV, Shuttle, and SSF operations. Proposed DRM's for CTV, SSF, and Shuttle operations envisioned during the early post-PMC time frame and continuing through mature, SSF evolutionary operations are described. These proposed DRM's are outlines for detailed mission definition; by treating these DRM's as top-level input for mission design studies, a range of parametric studies for systems/operations may be performed. Shuttle flight design experience, particularly rendezvous flight design, provides an excellent basis for DRM operations studies. To begin analysis of the DRM's, shuttle trajectory design tools were used in single case analysis to define CTV performance requirements. A summary of these results is presented
