The Inclusion of Health Data Standards in the Implementation of Pharmacogenomics Systems: A Scoping Review
Background: Despite potential benefits, the practice of incorporating pharmacogenomics (PGx) results in clinical decisions has yet to diffusewidely. In this study,we conducted a review of recent discussions on data standards and interoperability with a focus on sharing PGx test results among health systems. Materials & methods:We conducted a literature search for PGx clinical decision support systems between 1 January 2012 and 31 January 2020. Thirty-two out of 727 articles were included for the final review. Results: Nine of the 32 articles mentioned data standards and only four of the 32 articles provided solutions for the lack of interoperability. Discussions: Although PGx interoperability is essential for widespread implementation, a lack of focus on standardized data creates a formidable challenge for health information exchange. Conclusion: Standardization of PGx data is essential to improve health information exchange and the sharing of PGx results between disparate systems. However, PGx data standards and interoperability are often not addressed in the system-level implementation
Policy and Place: A Spatial Data Science Framework for Research and Decision-Making
abstract: A major challenge in health-related policy and program evaluation research is attributing underlying causal relationships where complicated processes may exist in natural or quasi-experimental settings. Spatial interaction and heterogeneity between units at individual or group levels can violate both components of the Stable-Unit-Treatment-Value-Assumption (SUTVA) that are core to the counterfactual framework, making treatment effects difficult to assess. New approaches are needed in health studies to develop spatially dynamic causal modeling methods to both derive insights from data that are sensitive to spatial differences and dependencies, and also be able to rely on a more robust, dynamic technical infrastructure needed for decision-making. To address this gap with a focus on causal applications theoretically, methodologically and technologically, I (1) develop a theoretical spatial framework (within single-level panel econometric methodology) that extends existing theories and methods of causal inference, which tend to ignore spatial dynamics; (2) demonstrate how this spatial framework can be applied in empirical research; and (3) implement a new spatial infrastructure framework that integrates and manages the required data for health systems evaluation.
The new spatially explicit counterfactual framework considers how spatial effects impact treatment choice, treatment variation, and treatment effects. To illustrate this new methodological framework, I first replicate a classic quasi-experimental study that evaluates the effect of drinking age policy on mortality in the United States from 1970 to 1984, and further extend it with a spatial perspective. In another example, I evaluate food access dynamics in Chicago from 2007 to 2014 by implementing advanced spatial analytics that better account for the complex patterns of food access, and quasi-experimental research design to distill the impact of the Great Recession on the foodscape. Inference interpretation is sensitive to both research design framing and underlying processes that drive geographically distributed relationships. Finally, I advance a new Spatial Data Science Infrastructure to integrate and manage data in dynamic, open environments for public health systems research and decision- making. e-Skills: The International dimension and the Impact of Globalisation - Final Report 2014
In todayâs increasingly knowledge-based economies, new information and communication technologies are a key engine for growth fuelled by the innovative ideas of highly - skilled workers. However, obtaining adequate quantities of employees
with the necessary e-skills is a challenge. This is a growing
international problem with many countries having an insufficient numbers of workers with the right e-Skills.
For example:
Australia: âEven though thereâs 10,000 jobs a year created in IT, there are only 4500 students studying IT at university, and not all of them graduateâ (Talevski and Osman, 2013).
Brazil: âBrazilâs ICT sector requires about 78,000 [new] people by 2014. But, according to Brasscom, there are only 33,000 youths studying ICT related courses in the countryâ (Ammachchi, 2012).
Canada: âIt is widely acknowledged that it is becoming inc
reasingly difficult to recruit for a variety of critical ICT occupations
âfrom entry level to seasonedâ (Ticoll and Nordicity, 2012).
Europe: It is estimated that there will be an e-skills gap within Europe of up to 900,000 (main forecast scenario) ICT pr
actitioners by 2020â (Empirica, 2014).
Japan: It is reported that 80% of IT and user companies report an e-skills shortage (IPA, IT HR White Paper, 2013)
United States: âUnlike the fiscal cliff where we are still peering over the edge, we careened over the âIT Skills Cliffâ some years ago as our economy digitalized, mobilized and further âtechnologizedâ, and our IT skilled labour supply failed to keep upâ (Miano, 2013)

Information knowledge and technology for Development in Africa
Information, knowledge, and technology occupy significant space in the information and knowledge society and ongoing debates on development such as sustainable development goals (SDGs) agenda 2030 and the fourth industrial revolution (4IR). Disruptive technologies and cyber-physical systems, obscuring the lines between the physical, digital and biological, escalated by the COVID-19 pandemic, present a ânew normalâ that profoundly affects the nature and magnitude of responses required to sustain and benefit from the new developments. Africa, known for late adoption of new technologies and innovations, is leapfrogging development stages in several enviable ways. This book, Information knowledge and technology for development in Africaâ, written by eminent African scholars, comprises chapters that satisfactorily address information access, artificial intelligence, information ethics, e-learning, library and information science education (LISE) in the 4IR, data literacy and e-scholarship, and knowledge management, which are increasingly essential for information access, services, and LISE in Africa. We expect the book to support research, teaching and learning in African higher education and worldwide for comparative scholarship
Knowledge Communities in Online Education and (Visual) Knowledge Management: 19. Workshop GeNeMeâ16 as part of IFKAD 2016: Proceedings of 19th Conference GeNeMe
Communities in New Media started in 1998 as a workshop series at TU Dresden, and since then has annually dealt with online communities at the interface between several disciplines such as education and economics, computer science, social and communication sciences, and more. (See Köhler, Kahnwald & Schoop, 2015). The workshop is traditionally a forum for interdisciplinary dialogue between science and business and serves to share experiences and knowledge among participants from different disciplines, organisations, and institutions.
In addition to the core themes of knowledge management and communities (in the chapters of the same name), the main focus of the conference is also on the support of knowledge and learning processes in the field of (media-assisted) higher education. This is complemented by an informational perspective when it comes to more functional and methodological approaches - use cases, workflows, and automation in knowledge management. In addition, systems and approaches for feedback, exchange, and ideas are presented. With the focus of knowledge media design and visual research as well as creative processes, this time there is also a highlight on visual aspects of knowledge management and mediation.
For IFKAD 2016, three GeNeMe tracks were accepted which focus on the interface of knowledge communities and knowledge management as well as knowledge media design in science, business, or education. In this conference volume you will find detailed information about these three tracks:

Adress- und Autorenverzeichnis 251Gemeinschaften in Neuen Medien hat 1998 als Workshop-Reihe an der TU Dresden begonnen und seither jĂ€hrlich das Thema Online-Communities an der Schnittstelle mehrerer Disziplinen wie Informatik, Bildungs- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften, Informatik sowie Sozial-und Kommunikationswissenschaft u.a.m. thematisiert (vgl. Köhler, Kahnwald & Schoop, 2015). Der Workshop ist traditionell ein Forum fĂŒr den interdisziplinĂ€ren Dialog zwischen Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft und dient dazu, Erfahrungen und Wissen unter den Teilnehmern aus verschiedenen Disziplinen, Organisationen und Institutionen zu teilen.
Die inhaltlichen Schwerpunkte der Konferenz widmen sich neben den Kernthemen Wissensmanagement und Communities (in den gleichnamigen Kapiteln) auch der UnterstĂŒtzung von Wissens- und Lernprozessen im Bereich der (mediengestĂŒtzten) Hochschullehre. ErgĂ€nzt wird diese eher organisationswissenschaftliche durch eine informatorische Perspektive, wenn es um stĂ€rker funktionale bzw. auch methodische AnsĂ€tze geht â Use Cases, Workflows und Automatisierung im Wissensmanagement. DarĂŒber hinaus werden Systeme und AnsĂ€tze fĂŒr Feedback, Austausch und Ideenfindung vorgestellt. Mit den Schwerpunkten der Wissensmediengestaltung und visuellen Forschungs- sowie Kreativprozessen wird diesmal auch ein Schlaglicht auf visuelle Aspekte von Wissensmanagement und -vermittlung geworfen.
FĂŒr die IFKAD 2016 wurden drei GeNeMe-Tracks angenommen, die sich auf das Interface von Wissensgemeinschaften und Wissensmanagement sowie die Wissensmediengestaltung in Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft oder Bildung konzentrieren. Calcium channel signalling and modulation in colorectal cancer
Background
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a huge global problem, being the 3rd most common cancer worldwide. It is caused by an interplay between genetic and chromosomal aberrations as well as dietary and lifestyle factors. Calcium channel receptor signalling is important in a number of cancers, in particular calcium releaseactivated calcium (CRAC) channel signalling and more recently PIEZO1. The hypothesis is that modulating these channels will have physiological effects on cancer growth in CRC.
Key Results
A novel ORAI1 inhibitor, named JPIII, demonstrated better pharmacokinetic properties than existing CRAC channel inhibitors, and inhibited ORAI1 channel function in both CRC and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Furthermore, JPIII suppressed cell viability, migration and invasion in both CRC and endothelial cells. ORAI1 channel inhibition inhibited cell viability without causing cell death in HUVECs. JPIII reduced cell viability and clonogenicity of CRCs. Furthermore, JPIII treatment activated autophagy whilst simultaneously inhibiting AKT phosphorylation. In addition, a role for PIEZO1 in CRC tumourigenesis is described for the first time. PIEZO1 channels are functionally expressed, and PIEZO1 siRNA knockdown inhibited CRC viability and resulted in an increase in G2/M cell cycle arrest. The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) transcriptome data revealed that ORAI1 and PIEZO1 are differentially overexpressed in CRC relative to normal colon.
However, calcium signalling and ion transport processes on the whole are downregulated in CRC. ORAI1 and PIEZO1 expression does not vary across disease stage or survival outcomes. However, expression of both channels was inversely associated with lymphatic invasion. Both ORAI1 and PIEZO1 expression demonstrated a tumour-specific correlation with one another that was not present in normal colon, and expression associated with IGF2R, postulating a potential oncogenic process for further research.
Conclusion
This work has demonstrated that both ORAI1 and PIEZO1 are involved in CRC molecular signalling
Information knowledge and technology for Development in Africa
Information, knowledge, and technology occupy significant space in the information and knowledge society and ongoing debates on development such as sustainable development goals (SDGs) agenda 2030 and the fourth industrial revolution (4IR). Disruptive technologies and cyber-physical systems, obscuring the lines between the physical, digital and biological, escalated by the COVID-19 pandemic, present a ânew normalâ that profoundly affects the nature and magnitude of responses required to sustain and benefit from the new developments. Africa, known for late adoption of new technologies and innovations, is leapfrogging development stages in several enviable ways. This book, Information knowledge and technology for development in Africaâ, written by eminent African scholars, comprises chapters that satisfactorily address information access, artificial intelligence, information ethics, e-learning, library and information science education (LISE) in the 4IR, data literacy and e-scholarship, and knowledge management, which are increasingly essential for information access, services, and LISE in Africa. Identification of ATP8A2 gene mutation in a consaguineous family segregating cerebellar atrophy and quadrupedal gait

heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by cerebellar atrophy,
dysarthric speech, and quadrupedal locomotion. Here, a consanguineous family with
four affected individuals which suggest an autosomal recessive inheritance was
investigated. Homozygosity mapping analysis using high-resolution genotyping arrays
in two affected individuals revealed four shared homozygous regions on 13q12,
19p13.3, 19q13.2, and 20q12. Target enrichment and next-generation sequencing of
these regions in an affected individual was uncovered 11 novel protein altering variants
which were filtered against dbSNP132 and 1000 genomes databases. Further
population filtering using personal genome databases and previous exome sequencing
datasets, segregation analysis, geographically-matched population screening, and
prediction approaches revealed a novel missense mutation, p.I376M, in ATP8A2
segregated with the phenotype in the family. The mutation resides in a highly
conserved C-terminal transmembrane region of E1-E2 ATPase domain. ATP8A2 is
mainly expressed in brain, in particular with the highest levels at cerebellum which is
a crucial organ for motor coordination. Mice deficient with Atp8a2 revealed impaired
axonal transport in the motor neurons associated with severe cerebellar ataxia and body
tremors. Recently, an unrelated individual with a de novo t(10;13) balanced
translocation whose one of the ATP8A2 allele was disrupted has been identified. This
patient shares similar neurological phenotypes including severe mental retardation and
hypotonia. These findings suggest a role for ATP8A2 in the neurodevelopment,
especially in the development of cerebro-cerebellar structures required for posture and
