    Evaluating strategies for implementing industry 4.0: a hybrid expert oriented approach of B.W.M. and interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy T.O.D.I.M.

    open access articleDeveloping and accepting industry 4.0 influences the industry structure and customer willingness. To a successful transition to industry 4.0, implementation strategies should be selected with a systematic and comprehensive view to responding to the changes flexibly. This research aims to identify and prioritise the strategies for implementing industry 4.0. For this purpose, at first, evaluation attributes of strategies and also strategies to put industry 4.0 in practice are recognised. Then, the attributes are weighted to the experts’ opinion by using the Best Worst Method (BWM). Subsequently, the strategies for implementing industry 4.0 in Fara-Sanat Company, as a case study, have been ranked based on the Interval Valued Intuitionistic Fuzzy (IVIF) of the TODIM method. The results indicated that the attributes of ‘Technology’, ‘Quality’, and ‘Operation’ have respectively the highest importance. Furthermore, the strategies for “new business models development’, ‘Improving information systems’ and ‘Human resource management’ received a higher rank. Eventually, some research and executive recommendations are provided. Having strategies for implementing industry 4.0 is a very important solution. Accordingly, multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods are a useful tool for adopting and selecting appropriate strategies.     A deep learning based-decision support tool for solution recommendation in cloud manufacturing platforms

    Abstract Industry 4.0 key enabling technologies such as cloud manufacturing allow for the dynamic sharing of distributed resources for efficient use at industrial network level. Interconnected users, i.e. suppliers and customers, offer and request manufacturing services over a cloud manufacturing platform, where an intelligent engine generates a number of solutions based on functional and geometrical requirements. A high number of suppliers leads to a higher number of solutions available for customers increasing the decision-making complexity from a customer perspective. Recommendation systems play a crucial role in expanding the opportunities in decision-making processes under complex information environments. In this scope, this paper proposes the conceptualization and the development of a recommendation decision support tool to be implemented in a cloud manufacturing platform to assist customers in appropriately selecting manufacturing services with reference to sheet metal cutting operations. In terms of solution selection, a Deep Neural Network (DNN) paradigm is adopted to allow for the automatic learning of optimal solution recommendation list based both on customers past experiences and new choices. In this respect, a virtual interaction environment is firstly built for system pre-training. Subsequently, users' data are inputted in the pre-trained model to predict a recommendation list. This is then subject to user interaction, i.e. selection, which will be fed back into the model to update the training parameters. This paper concludes with a simulated case study reported to exemplify the proposed methodology for a variety of decision-making scenarios

    Cloud computing – where elastic computing resources are delivered over the Internet by external service providers – is generating significant interest within HE and FE. In the cloud computing business model, organisations or individuals contract with a cloud computing service provider on a pay-per-use basis to access data centres, application software or web services from any location. This provides an elasticity of provision which the customer can scale up or down to meet demand. This form of utility computing potentially opens up a new paradigm in the provision of IT to support administrative and educational functions within HE and FE. Further, the economies of scale and increasingly energy efficient data centre technologies which underpin cloud services means that cloud solutions may also have a positive impact on carbon footprints.     Effective Strategies for Managing the Outsourcing of Information Technology

    More than half of information technology (IT) outsourced projects fail, primarily due to a lack of effective management practices surrounding the outsourcing end-to-end process. Ineffective management of the IT outsourcing (ITO) process affects organizations in the form of higher than expected project costs, including greater vendor switching or reintegration costs, poor quality, and loss of profits. These effects indicate that some business leaders lack the strategies to effectively manage the ITO process. The purpose of this single-case study was to apply the transaction cost economics (TCE) theory to explore strategies 5 business professionals use to manage an ITO project in a financial services organization located in the Midwestern region of the United States. Participant selection was purposeful and was based on the integral role the participants play on the ITO project. Data collection occurred via face-to-face semistructured interviews with the participants and the review of company documents. Data were analyzed using inductive coding of phrases, word frequency searches, and theme interpretation. Three themes emerged: vendor governance and oversight, collaborative strategic partnership, and risk management strategies enabled effective management of ITO. Identifying and executing appropriate outsourcing strategies may contribute to social change by improving outsourcing infrastructure, which might support job creation; increasing standards of living, especially within emerging markets; and heightening awareness of different cultures, norms, and languages among people living in different regions around the world to establish commonalities and gain alignment with business practices
