Performance Analysis of Massive MIMO-OFDM System Incorporated with Various Transforms for Image Communication in 5G Systems
Modern-day applications of fifth-generation (5G) and sixth-generation (6G) systems require fast, efficient, and robust transmission of multimedia information over wireless communication medium for both mobile and fixed users. The hybrid amalgamation of massive multiple input multiple output (mMIMO) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) proves to be an impressive methodology for fulfilling the needs of 5G and 6G users. In this paper, the performance of the hybrid combination of massive MIMO and OFDM schemes augmented with fast Fourier transform (FFT), fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) or discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is evaluated to study their potential for reliable image communication. The analysis is carried over the Rayleigh fading channels and M-ary phase-shift keying (M-PSK) modulation schemes. The parameters used in our analysis to assess the outcome of proposed versions of OFDM-mMIMO include signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) vs. peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and SNR vs. structural similarity index measure (SSIM) at the receiver. Our results indicate that massive MIMO systems incorporating FrFT and DWT can lead to higher PSNR and SSIM values for a given SNR and number of users, when compared with in contrast to FFT-based massive MIMO-OFDM systems under the same conditions.publishersversionpublishe
OFDM-IDMA for Uplink Transmission in Passive Optical Networks
In this paper, we propose the orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing-interleaved division multiplexing access (OFDM-IDMA) technique for passive optical networks (PONs). We evaluate the performance of such systems and compare it with the already proposed OFDM-Access (OFDMA) technique by means of the bit error rate versus received power for two different coding schemes and different number of iterations. Results show that OFDM-IDMA technique with an unequal power allocation distribution among the different optical network units (ONUs) offers similar performance to OFDMA when used with a simple convolutional code at an aggregated rate of 4 and 8 Gbits/s. Dynamic bandwidth allocation can be easily implemented with this technique. © 2011 IEEE.Sánchez Costa, C.; Ortega Tamarit, B.; Capmany Francoy, J. (2012).
With the arrival of 5G it is expected the proliferation of services in the
different fields such as healthcare, utility applications, industrial automation,
4K streaming, that the former networks can not provide. Additionally,
the total number of wireless communication devices will escalate in such
a manner that the already scarce available frequency bandwidth won’t be
enough to pack the intended objectives. Cisco’s Annual Internet Report from
2018 predicts that by 2023 there will be nearly 30 billion devices capable of
wireless communication. Due to the exponential expiation of both services
and devices, the challenges upon both network data capacity and efficient
radio resourse use will be greater than ever, thus the urgency for solutions
is grand.
Both the capacity for wireless communications and spectral efficiency are
related to cell size and its users proximity to the access point. Thus,
shortening the distance between the transmitter and the receiver improves
both aspects of the network. This concept is what motivates the
implementation of heterogeneous networks, HetNets, that are composed
of many different small-cells, SCs, overlaid across the same coexisting
area of a conventional macro-cell, shortening the distance between the
cell users and its access point transceivers, granting a better coverage and
higher data rates. However, the HetNets potential does not come without
any challenges, as these networks suffer considerably from communication
interference between cells.
Although some interference management algorithms that allow coexistence
between cells have been proposed in recent years, most of them were
evaluated by software simulations and not implemented in real-time
platforms. Therefore, this master thesis aims to give the first step on the
implementation and evaluation of an interference mitigation technique in
hardware. Specifically, it is assumed a downlink scenario composed by a
macro-cell base station, a macro-cell primary user and a small cell user,
with the aim of implementing an algorithm that eliminates the downlink
interference that the base station may cause to the secondary users. The
study was carried out using the System Generator DSP tool, which is a tool
that generates code for hardware from schematics created in it. This tool
also offers a wide range of blocks that help the creation, and fundamentally,
the simulation and study of the system to be implemented, before being
translated into hardware. The results obtained in this work are a faithful
representation of the behavior of the implemented system, which can be
A review of traditional cost system versus activity based costing approaches
In the last two decades, business environment has been changing rapidly with fierce global competition. Firms using the traditional costing system were forced to change from their old system traditional-cost method and to accept the newer cost system, better known as the activity based on costing (ABC system). The new system is able to support and enhance decision making of the decision makers, besides being adaptable to the new business environment. Therefore, this paper aimed to review the applications and importance of both traditional cost system and ABC system for business decision making, and compare the results of ABC and the traditional costing systems via literature reviews of works by previous authors. The results reflected that activity based on the costing system is a better system comparing to the traditional costing systems. ABC system enhances decision making of the interested user with its better adaptable costing features to support the new business environment and global business competition. It thus creates a more sustainable source of competitive advantage. In addition, it identifies the under-costed and over-costed of the products of a firm
Multicell coordination is a promising solution for cellular wireless systems
to mitigate inter-cell interference, improving system fairness and
increasing capacity and thus is already under study in LTE-A under the
coordinated multipoint (CoMP) concept. There are several coordinated
transmission approaches depending on the amount of information shared
by the transmitters through the backhaul network and where the
processing takes place i.e. in a central processing unit or in a distributed
way on each base station.
In this thesis, we propose joint precoding and power allocation techniques
considering different strategies: Full-centralized, where all the processing
takes place at the central unit; Semi-distributed, in this case only some
process related with power allocation is done at the central unit; and Fulldistributed,
where all the processing is done locally at each base station.
The methods are designed in two phases: first the inter-cell interference is
removed by applying a set of centralized or distributed precoding vectors;
then the system is further optimized by centralized or distributed power
allocation schemes. Three centralized power allocation algorithms with
per-BS power constraint and different complexity tradeoffs are proposed.
Also distributed power allocation schemes are proposed by considering
the multicell system as superposition of single cell systems, where we
define the average virtual bit error rate (BER) of interference-free single
cell system, allowing us to compute the power allocation coefficients in a
distributed manner at each BS.
All proposed schemes are evaluated in realistic scenarios considering LTE
specifications. The numerical evaluations show that the proposed schemes
are efficient in removing inter-cell interference and improve system
performance comparing to equal power allocation. Furthermore, fulldistributed
schemes can be used when the amounts of information to be
exchanged over the backhaul is restricted, although system performance is
slightly degraded from semi-distributed and full-centralized schemes, but
the complexity is considerably lower. Besides that for high degrees of
freedom distributed schemes show similar behaviour to centralized ones
