Stability for component integration assessment
Component-Based Software Development is focused on assembling previously existing components (COTS and other non-developmental items) into larger systems, and migrating existing systems toward component approaches. Ideally, most of the application developer’s time is spent integrating components. We present an approach that can be used in the process of establishing component integration’s quality as an important field to resolving CBS quality problems – problems ranging from CBS quality definition, measurement, analysis, and improvement to tools, methods and processes. In this paper, we introduce an important property we called system’s stability as part of a cycle for assessing and improving component-based systems. This property is the basis for determining the impact of incorporating COTS components into a stable system.Eje: IngenierÃa de SoftwareRed de Universidades con Carreras en Informática (RedUNCI

Higher capability maturity dynamics of UK construction organisations
This paper attempts to identify the dynamics of the CMM (Capability Maturity Model) higher capability maturity level characteristics within the UK construction context from a theoretical perspective. Firstly, this paper follows a literature survey and a synthesis to identify the nature of CMM higher capability maturity level dynamics and its specific attachments to the software industry. Based on this synthesis, this paper presents a model to mimic the likely higher capability maturity dynamics of the UK construction industry
MUVOT - Establishing an International Vocational Training Program on the Topic of Measurement Uncertainty
Measurement results represent important information, which are necessary for evaluating and improving the quality of manufactured products and to control manufacturing processes. Furthermore, they build the basis for numerous decisions in the field of quality management, process and production automation or product development and design.
Knowledge about the acquisition, evaluation and interpretation of measurement data as well as an understanding of the relevant influences on those measurement results are essential for employees working in the field of manufacturing metrology. Measurement results are always afflicted with deviations, due to a variety of causes. It follows that in order to assign a value to the reliability and quality of a measurement result its uncertainty must be determined and considered. However, employees in the field of quality management or metrology are often not familiar with methods for determination and interpretation of measurement uncertainty, because appropriate opportunities for training are missing in current vocational education.
This need has led to the creation of the European project MUVoT, which will create a course for advanced vocational training in determining measurement uncertainty. The training course is based on a blended learning concept, combining self-dependent learning via a web-based platform and face-to-face workshops. This allows the adaption of individual knowledge and skills by self-controlled learning of abstract contents whilst the exercises enable the practical application of typical methods, which are generally considered as quite complex by many employees, and thus assure correct understanding. The featured Blended Learning concept facilitates the integration of the training into a workplace setting, thus the idea of Lifelong Learning is promoted in new fields of application. The curriculum and training concept for this newly developed training program have been designed such that the course can be applied internationally. To facilitate this, a harmonized scheme for course structure and contents has been defined albeit with inherent flexibility, allowing the adaptation to specific constraints
Measuring Software Process: A Systematic Mapping Study
Context: Measurement is essential to reach predictable performance and high capability processes. It provides
support for better understanding, evaluation, management, and control of the development process
and project, as well as the resulting product. It also enables organizations to improve and predict its process’s
performance, which places organizations in better positions to make appropriate decisions. Objective:
This study aims to understand the measurement of the software development process, to identify studies,
create a classification scheme based on the identified studies, and then to map such studies into the scheme
to answer the research questions. Method: Systematic mapping is the selected research methodology for this
study. Results: A total of 462 studies are included and classified into four topics with respect to their focus
and into three groups based on the publishing date. Five abstractions and 64 attributes were identified,
25 methods/models and 17 contexts were distinguished. Conclusion: capability and performance were the
most measured process attributes, while effort and performance were the most measured project attributes.
Goal Question Metric and Capability Maturity Model Integration were the main methods and models used
in the studies, whereas agile/lean development and small/medium-size enterprise were the most frequently
identified research contexts.Ministerio de EconomÃa y Competitividad TIN2013-46928-C3-3-RMinisterio de EconomÃa y Competitividad TIN2016-76956-C3-2- RMinisterio de EconomÃa y Competitividad TIN2015-71938-RED
Enterprise information security policy assessment - an extended framework for metrics development utilising the goal-question-metric approach
Effective enterprise information security policy management requires review and assessment activities to ensure information security policies are aligned with business goals and objectives. As security policy management involves the elements of policy development process and the security policy as output, the context for security policy assessment requires goal-based metrics for these two elements. However, the current security management assessment methods only provide checklist types of assessment that are predefined by industry best practices and do not allow for developing specific goal-based metrics. Utilizing theories drawn from literature, this paper proposes the Enterprise Information Security Policy Assessment approach that expands on the Goal-Question-Metric (GQM) approach. The proposed assessment approach is then applied in a case scenario example to illustrate a practical application. It is shown that the proposed framework addresses the requirement for developing assessment metrics and allows for the concurrent undertaking of process-based and product-based assessment. Recommendations for further research activities include the conduct of empirical research to validate the propositions and the practical application of the proposed assessment approach in case studies to provide opportunities to introduce further enhancements to the approach
