Neurons and symbols: a manifesto
We discuss the purpose of neural-symbolic integration including its principles, mechanisms and applications. We outline a cognitive computational model for neural-symbolic integration, position the model in the broader context of multi-agent systems, machine learning and automated reasoning, and list some of the challenges for the area of
neural-symbolic computation to achieve the promise of effective integration of robust learning and expressive reasoning under uncertainty
Set-Theoretic Completeness for Epistemic and Conditional Logic
The standard approach to logic in the literature in philosophy and
mathematics, which has also been adopted in computer science, is to define a
language (the syntax), an appropriate class of models together with an
interpretation of formulas in the language (the semantics), a collection of
axioms and rules of inference characterizing reasoning (the proof theory), and
then relate the proof theory to the semantics via soundness and completeness
results. Here we consider an approach that is more common in the economics
literature, which works purely at the semantic, set-theoretic level. We provide
set-theoretic completeness results for a number of epistemic and conditional
logics, and contrast the expressive power of the syntactic and set-theoretic

07351 Abstracts Collection -- Formal Models of Belief Change in Rational Agents
From 26.08. to 30.08.2007, the Dagstuhl Seminar 07351 ``Formal Models of Belief Change in Rational Agents\u27\u27 was held in the International Conference and Research Center (IBFI), Schloss Dagstuhl.
During the seminar, several participants presented their current
research, and ongoing work and open problems were discussed. Abstracts of
the presentations given during the seminar as well as abstracts of
seminar results and ideas are put together in this paper. The first section
describes the seminar topics and goals in general.
