The strategy and realization of enterprise integration
University of Technology, Sydney. Faculty of Information Technology.In recent years we have experienced exponential growth in business innovation. emerging
technology, and integration complexity. With this unprecedented growth, the priority of
enterprise integration has shifted from patching solutions to the governance of agility.
Enterprise integration mainly deals with interoperability between virtual and physical worlds,
which is thorny by its very nature. In order to cope with rising complexity, interference
coherence between business, service. and physical components is crucial. Instead of
consolidation from fragmentation, an iteration approach is taken in driving concept and
strategy into realization. The empirical statistics indicate that the anatomy of ontological
research is essential for producing an overview of interoperability. The author's numerous
research projects demonstrate a number of factors critical in generating higher productivity
and lower risk. These factors include a higher visibility of atomic elements. a well-specified
service, and a precise architectural alignment.
By taking these successful factors into realization, this thesis proposes enterprise vertical
integration, employing a three-step strategy of componentization, transformation, and
virtualization. Componentization derives an ontology of atomic elements for the
service-based foundation. In transformation. service components are produced from these
raw elements, using a multi-discipline and three-dimensional approach to achieve
component synthesis. The final step, virtualization, is the objective of enterprise integration.
Virtualization establishes the enterprise skeleton and achieves a common-service mainstream
in the industry. Experiential evidence indicates that this higher-level, three-step approach
works effectively in minimizing risk and increasing productivity. There is particular benefit
for projects of higher complexity and larger scale.
Given the incessant business change inherent in our chaotic new age of computing, the
three-step approach relies on a new framework to streamline realization and cope with project
complexity. A Method, Evaluation, Techniques, and Application (META) framework addresses
the interference between virtual and physical layers. In this initial process it develops
component validation, analysis processes, and synthesis techniques for service transformation.
It then develops service components and common services for service virtualization. This
thesis proposes a four-pillared approach to support the META framework. It also proposes
sub-area concepts such as "pattern" and "state" to enhance the capability of the framework
before moving it into the industry mainstream.
This thesis distinguishes itself from existing literature in that very few studies in this field
address real enterprise-scale integration. None of the reviewed literature copes with the
fundamental work of enterprise issues such as ontological research or high-level strategy as
proposed by this thesis
Factors Influencing Implementation of Enterprise-level Technical Transformation in a Healthcare Organization: An Action Research Collaborative Inquiry Study
Successfully implementing enterprise-level technical transformational programs is a primary goal for large-scale healthcare organizations. As an open system, healthcare organizations must constantly adapt to a highly volatile marketplace where technology underpins services\u27 supply and demand. External drivers include adapting to changing customer demographics, healthcare market standards, and federal regulations; a prime example is a recent response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These external factors drive internal transformation that translates into developing new product lines, business processes, and technology, requiring strategic orchestration to survive and thrive in the marketplace. This study found that employing a transformational change approach can help healthcare organizations respond to the demands of the dynamic healthcare industry, proactively reshape their business strategy and process, and improve work culture while meeting market demands. The purpose of the action research study was to qualitatively investigate and explore the experience of a healthcare organizationâs participants engaged in a multi-year, enterprise-level technical transformation program to identify the factors for successful implementation utilizing an action research collaborative inquiry approach. The results of Lessons Learned and Stakeholder Satisfaction surveys document the transformation program\u27s performance and satisfaction throughout the program\u27s multiple phases. The researcher collected data, coded it, and identified common themes analyzed by the research group, which consisted of the researcher and six Transformation Program team members who volunteered to participate in the research group based on their lived experience of the Transformation Program. The research findings identified organizationally strategic, structural alignments, and leadership accountability emerging themes which are delivered utilizing Kate and Galbraithâs (2007) Star Model for Innovation

In Sichuan province, 1,203 samples were taken and analyzed by SPSS data. Finally, the influence factors of consumersâ usage intentions are obtained. Based on the influence factors, the packaging and lines are designed to ensure the recycle. TOWARDS A FRAMEWORK FOR DIGITAL TRANSFOR-MATION SUCCESS IN MANUFACTURING
Digital Transformation (DT) affects whole enterprises and is expected to drive a disruptive change in the way people work. Digital technologies leverage changes from simple tasks to the enterprise-wide strategy. Enterprises expect major benefits from investments in DT. However, digital transformation is a complex process and hence difficult to understand. Many different use scenarios exist so that decisions about the adoption of technologies are challenging. Therefore, it is critical to understand which benefits might be achieved with DT. With our research, we contribute to the understanding of digital transformation success. We develop and evaluate a framework that covers the main dimensions of digital transformation success. Literature from IS success and DT research is used to identify these dimensions. To evaluate this framework, we use data gained in a qualitative approach. We combine findings from a literature research with qualitative results to offer deeper insights into peoples\u27 understanding of what shapes the success. The framework is useful to classify benefits achieved by DT and to point out new possibilities of gaining success with DT
Business-IT Alignment in the Era of Digital Transformation: Quo Vadis?
For the last four decades, the alignment of business and IT strategies also referred to as business-IT alignment (BITA), has been recognised as one of the top concerns for leaders. The current digital transformation journey undertaken by most organisations, however, triggered a new approach to planning and executing business and IT strategies as well as pursuing BITA. A systematic literature review is conducted to capture the paradigmatic shift in research and practice. A total of 94 articles published between 2014 and 2018 were identified searching through databases known to index reputable IS journals and conference proceedings. The analysis of the review revealed the continued conceptual debate on BITA construct as well as new research topics. The significance of digital strategy, enterprise architecture models, as well as intelligent IT systems to enable elicitation, implementation and assessment of activities enabling BITA are garnering the attention of researchers. A proposed model for servitization based collaboration in the UK Aerospace Defence industry
In many sectors customers are increasingly seeking service contracts rather than buying products. High tech capital equipment firms attracted by the potential revenue benefits are choosing to move from supplying product only to supplying product and services. This concept is known as âServitizationâ. Through empirical evidence the academic literature has shown that businesses face challenges in undertaking the transformation from product to service provision and that organisational, cultural, commercial and operational challenges have the potential to erode the desired and expected benefits sought from such a transition. The research presented in this thesis investigates and identifies the features and challenges of servitization in the context of a complex engineering service provided by the UK Aerospace Defence industry. The research also explores the reported costs and front of mind costs for the provision of a complex engineering service. Particular attention is given to the problem of less than expected profitability during and post transformation to service. This research adopts a qualitative approach through the use of a single case study with multiple case examples of the complex engineering service. Findings identify a number of challenges associated with the transformation from product to service provision that include strategy, organisation and enterprise management, contracting, risk, culture and operations. Considering these findings holistically it is suggested that a paradigm shift needs to occur, changing both managers perspective and the business models employed if the firm is to provide a sustainable service offering. New ways of structuring and managing the enterprise to deliver the service value proposition will be required. This will include the development of performance management of all operations across the enterprise required as a minimum to ensure optimum performance of service delivery at lowest cost
Enterprise Architecture Framework of a Lean enterprise transformation
Today's business environment is characterized by fast changes, uncertainty, variability, and unpredictability. To be more competitive, firms have to improve their operations performance. To achieve this, one path is to develop a strategy based on the Lean philosophy across the entire organization. However, to transform a company into a Lean Enterprise is not simple. After examining the literature, it was determined that there is no comprehensive Lean framework that provides a complete integration of the Lean elements into a coherent whole or a detailed step-by-step methodology for Lean manufacturing implementation.This dissertation presents an Enterprise Architecture Framework for a Lean enterprise transformation to guide a company towards operational excellence. This framework integrates holistically the main components crucial to transforming a traditional enterprise into a Lean Enterprise. It can be useful in supporting the whole organization in its Lean journey to transform the company into a more productive system.For this research, several Lean frameworks, the most well known national quality award models for operational excellence, and the main architecture frameworks for enterprise integration were identified and analyzed. Concepts derived from this analysis contributed to the design and understanding of the enterprise architecture framework. The framework has been designed to guide a company through a Lean enterprise transformation using an analytical, logical, and systematic approach. This approach considers the main tools and principles of Industrial Engineering as well as Lean Manufacturing and Business Improvement Programs. It contains layers that represent the enterprise views. Each layer is divided into groups and each group is broken down into components of the same category. Both layer components and phases have been integrated into a coherent whole, which forms the Lean enterprise transition roadmap. Phases one to four of the framework have been tested in a German engine parts company in the automotive sector.The methodology used for this dissertation was developmental research, using a qualitative research design approach that encompasses inductive logic to develop the framework and deductive logic to test it. Fiscal Effects from Privatization: Case of Bulgaria and Poland (Part I)
This study constitutes part of the "Support for Economic Reforms in Bulgaria" project conducted by the Center for Economic and Social Research (CASE Research Foundation), Warsaw and financed by the Open Society Institute, Budapest. The aim of the project is to assist co-operation with Bulgarian counterparts in implementing structural reforms in the Bulgarian economy. At the request of the Bulgarian authorities, this assistance involves developing and carrying out reform programs, as well as evaluating their results in priority areas of structural and institutional reform, with particular reference to the process of ownership transformation. This includes providing an overall strategy for privatization and reporting its effects, monitoring the process of enterprise privatization, post-privatization contract enforcement and the restructuring of newly privatized companies. The purpose of this study is to: - describe and evaluate the fiscal dimension of the privatization process in Bulgaria and Poland, - conduct a cross-country comparison of the fiscal effects of privatization in Bulgaria and Poland, examining their respective approaches to the same, - identify the crucial factors in the privatization strategy and policies of both countries that affect their privatization revenues, - provide background information for the possible transfer of know-how concerning the best approach to maximizing the fiscal effects of privatization, by examining those positive and negative aspects of Poland's experience that could prove relevant to Bulgaria's economic environment. This study includes an evaluation of the fiscal effects of privatization in both countries in the period since the very beginning of the process, i.e. in the case of Poland since 1990 and in the case of Bulgaria since 1993. Dynamic Service Level Agreement Management for Efficient Operation of Elastic Information Systems
The growing awareness that effective Information Systems (IS), which contribute to sustainable business processes, secure a long-lasting competitive advantage has increasingly focused corporate transformation efforts on the efficient usage of Information Technology (IT). In this context, we provide a new perspective on the management of enterprise information systems and introduce a novel framework that harmonizes economic and operational goals. Concretely, we target elastic n-tier applications with dynamic on-demand cloud resource provisioning. We design and implement a novel integrated management model for information systems that induces economic influence factors into the operation strategy to adapt the performance goals of an enterprise information system dynamically (i.e., online at runtime). Our framework forecasts future user behavior based on historic data, analyzes the impact of workload on system performance based on a non-linear performance model, analyzes the economic impact of different provisioning strategies, and derives an optimal operation strategy. The evaluation of our prototype, based on a real production system workload trace, is carried out in a custom test infrastructure (i.e., cloud testbed, n-tier benchmark application, distributed monitors, and control framework), which allows us to evaluate our approach in depth, in terms of efficiency along the entire SLA lifetime. Based on our thorough evaluation, we are able to make concise recommendations on how to use our framework effectively in further research and practice
