From Product Platform Ecosystem to Innovation Platform Ecosystem: An Institutional Perspective on the Governance of Ecosystem Transformations

    Get PDF
Incumbent companies across industries such as banking, insurance, and enterprise software have begun transforming their existing product platform ecosystems into innovation platforms ecosystems to increase generativity in their ecosystems. Such ecosystem transformations not only entail technological challenges as the underlying platform technology changes but also organizational challenges in that ecosystem actors such as partners and customers need to become part of the transformed ecosystem. To study how incumbent companies can govern ecosystem transformations successfully, we interpret ecosystems as organizational fields and ecosystem transformations as changes to the fields’ institutional infrastructure. Based on a multiyear, grounded theory study of the transformation of SAP’s on-premises ERP system, we first identify institutionalization challenges that arise when institutional infrastructure is changed during an ecosystem transformation. We then show how field-level governance mechanisms address these challenges and how the new institutional infrastructure gains legitimacy among ecosystem actors, ultimately leading to the institutionalization of the transformed ecosystem. These findings contribute to the literature on ecosystem transformations and platform governance by highlighting the role that institutional forces play in ecosystem transformations. Furthermore, we add to the literature on institutional theory by providing insights into the dynamics of institutional infrastructure as it becomes infused with digital technologies

    Get PDF
The Media Layers of the open systems interconnection (OSI) reference model convert bits to packets. It is a very important aspect of network communication and consists of various networking protocols. At the lowest level the physical layer deals with Media, Signal and Binary Transmission of Bits. Then there is the Data Link layer which deals with media access control (MAC) and logical link control (LLC) Physical Addressing of Frames, for example Ethernet. Finally, there is the Network layer which deals with Path Determination and IP Logical addressing of Packets. This article gives a review of these Media Layers and will contribute to adding knowledge for a networking novice while consolidating concepts for an experienced professional or academic

IoT – review of critical issues

Science – research transformation of the Internet of Things (IoT) has a number of colours and shadows, many dimensions including technical, social, community, financial, economic and civilization. This transformation has many wide development roads but also numerable pitfalls and traps. It does not take place solely at the level of scientific and technical progress and innovation. It preliminarily takes place in a complex socio-political-economic context, narrowed for simplification as social acceptance and education only. Such acceptance, for example expressed simply by demand and market popularity, for simple items supplemented by useful functions, such as an iron that recognizes the type of fabric and matches its work accordingly, a completely autonomous vacuum cleaner, etc., is trivial. We aim at much deeper relations of IoT with society. If IoT were only adding such functionalities, it would not be worth the time to consider it here. IoT causes a lot of confusion for much more important reasons in many areas of life. Somewhere further on the potential paths of IoT development, it has been noted with interest, but also with anxiety, the possibility of its empowerment as local but also global, superintendent surveillance system, gathering enormous amounts of information, creating knowledge and making autonomous decisions. Potential subjectivity must include such attributes as acquiting from the creator, autonomy, consciousness, morality and further building by the society the whole legal system around the new entity. It will not be a single entity, it will be a whole virtual society, with electronic people. The consequences can be far-reaching and appear as an inevitable option on such a scale for the first time in the history of our human society. Overcoming certain barriers recognized by us may mean that the intelligence and consciousness are not only attributes of the human biological mind. Such reasoning, not without a reason, encounters strong resistance. However, there is a fundamental difference between the opposition to some genetic research and the potential modification of man himself, and the opposition to machine building, a system of superintendence that far exceeds the possibilities of a single man and of entire societies

Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Information Systems and Technologies ManagementThe following dissertation discussion focuses on the Cloud Computing parading into Public Administrations, aiming to establish a process based on ISO/IEC standards to secure the interoperability of the clouds. However, global digitalization grows exponentially and seems to be constrained by legislative and lack of defined structure to achieve integrity between systems and processes to equate on the same level the communications between administrations. One of the main challenges that citizens and governments face, is the portability of sensitive information, by approaching them, both can save lots of bureaucracy and agile data management. In line manner, the economic impact and digital wealth of the citizens can largely improve by addressing a solid model reference model to exchange and send information. As such, the potential of a dynamic interaction between clouds is key for the technological future of the administrations and many institutions have already started to incentivize cloud computing to enable economic, social, and health services opportunities

Design of a Workflow-Based Grid Framework

This paper aims to present the design of the Grid Collaborative Framework which has been proposed in one of our previous work. Grid infrastructure for resources sharing is somewhat stable with the wide acceptance of the Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) and Web Services Resource Framework (WSRF), but Grid framework for collaboration is far from desired. Current Grid Collaborative Frameworks (GCFs) are domain specific and lack of plan-supported capability. These limitations make them less useful and narrow in scope of application. Our grid collaborative framework aims to improve these limitations. With the theoretical foundation based on the activity theory, workflow languages, and designed on top of existing OGSA infrastructure, our proposed framework aims at accelerating the development of grid collaborative systems that consider work plans as central role

Background: Artificial intelligence has brought big changes into digital marketing practices during the recent years. However, even if AI-powered technologies and big data allow the development of new innovative solutions in digital marketing, the application of them is still in its beginning. This research topic has been of great interest between researchers but previous studies provide little information related to data that marketing specialists should implement in AI-powered digital marketing operations in order to achieve the best possible results. Purpose: This paper focuses on the impact of AI-powered digital marketing operations. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to explore what kind of data marketers should use in AI-powered digital marketing operations in order to achieve the best possible results by the theoretical framework developed by the authors. The aim is also to provide an understanding of the factors that affect properties of the data. Methodology: In order to answer the research question an empirical research was conducted and data was collected through semi-structured interviews using guidelines inspired by literature review. Participants in the semi-structured interview consisted of people who are using Salesforce in their digital marketing operations. Results: The study largely supports the literature review, but also offers new insights related to data perspective in AI-powered digital marketing operations. The study suggests that in order to succeed in AI-powered digital marketing operations, the data should be high quality data, as well as complete and reliable. In this way, marketing specialists can get deeper, effective and more precise results. The result also revealed that external data is playing an important role, so internal data should be combined with external data. Furthermore, data privacy issues are affecting the data collection process and it is important to keep in mind the trust of customers. However, before implementing AI in digital marketing operations, marketers should understand the company's business goals. Conclusion: All in all, this research contributes to the AI-powered digital marketing literature in the specific context of data-driven approach. The theoretical framework has been updated by the emerging findings from the qualitative analysis

    Building a Standard Measurement Platform

Network management is achieved through a large number of disparate solutions for different technologies and parts of the end-to-end network. Gaining an overall view, and especially predicting the impact on a service user, is difficult. Recently, a number of proprietary platforms have emerged to conduct end-to-end testing from user premises; however, these are limited in scale, interoperability, and the ability to compare like-for-like results. In this article we show that these platforms share similar architectures and can benefit from the standardization of key interfaces, test definitions, information model, and protocols. We take the SamKnows platform as a use case and propose an evolution from its current proprietary protocols to standardized protocols and tests. In particular, we propose to use extensions of the IETF's IPFIX and NETCONF/YANG in the platform. Standardization will allow measurement capabilities to be included on many more network elements and user devices, providing a much more comprehensive view of user experience and enabling problems and performance bottlenecks to be identified and addressed.Publicad
