    A state-of-art survey on TQM applications using MCDM techniques

    In today’s competitive economy, quality plays an essential role for the success business units and there are considerable efforts made to control and to improve quality characteristics in order to satisfy customers’ requirements. However, improving quality is normally involved with various criteria and we need to use Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) to handle such cases. In this state-of the-art literature survey, 45 articles focused on solving quality problems by MCDM methods are investigated. These articles were published between 1994 and 2013.Seven areas were selected for categorization: (1) AHP, Fuzzy AHP, ANP and Fuzzy ANP, (2) DEMATEL and Fuzzy DEMATEL, (3) GRA, (4) Vikor and Fuzzy Vikor, (5) TOPSIS, Fuzzy TOPSIS and combination of TOPSIS and AHP, (6) Fuzzy and (7) Less frequent and hybrid procedures. According to our survey, Fuzzy based methods were the most popular technique with about 40% usage among procedures. Also AHP and ANP were almost 20% of functional methods. This survey ends with giving recommendation for future researches

    The Strategy of Enhancing Employee Reward Using TOPSIS Method as a Decision Support System

     Giving rewards for good performance and achievement of tasks needs to be done as a form of recognition and appreciation by the organization/institution to employees, as well as being part of the process of achieving organizational goals. This study aims to develop a Decision Support System that uses the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity (TOPSIS) method with the PHP programming language to select reward recipients at University. The data used came from 2 groups, namely educational staff (lecturers) and non-educative staff (employees). Determination criteria applied to the educative group are 10 things, namely: tenure, DP3 value, the value on the percentage of work attendance, value on the percentage of teaching attendance, value on lecturer functional position, value on research implementation, the value on implementation of community service, value on the results of the questionnaire by students, the value of employment status, and the value of sanctions. There are 5 determinant criteria used in the non-educative group, namely: tenure, DP3 value, percentage of work attendance, the value of employment status, and value of sanctions. The results of this study are in the form of an information system program as a decision-making tool for the process of selecting reward recipient employees

    Framework for benchmarking online retailing performance using fuzzy AHP and TOPSIS method

    Due to increasing penetration of internet connectivity, on-line retail is growing from the pioneer phase to increasing integration within people's lives and companies' normal business practices. In the increasingly competitive environment, on-line retail service providers require systematic and structured approach to have cutting edge over the rival. Thus, the use of benchmarking has become indispensable to accomplish superior performance to support the on-line retail service providers. This paper uses the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) approach to support a generic on-line retail benchmarking process. Critical success factors for on-line retail service have been identified from a structured questionnaire and literature and prioritized using fuzzy AHP. Using these critical success factors, performance levels of the ORENET an on-line retail service provider is benchmarked along with four other on-line service providers using TOPSIS method. Based on the benchmark, their relative ranking has also been illustrated

    Evaluating Quality of Matrimonial Websites: Balancing Emotions with Economics

    There are a plethora of studies evaluating the quality of websites on functional and design-related aspects such as usability and visual parameters. The majority of these studies are related to e-commerce websites where individuals make decision largely relying on economic parameters. However, matrimonial websites are unique, as the decisions involve both economic and non-economic parameters. Therefore, this study aims to propose a framework to evaluate quality of matrimonial websites by incorporating contextual factors and examine differences among different groups of users. This study proffers a website evaluating framework considering non-economic and emotion based factors from the information systems (IS) success model and the search match interaction (SMI) framework. The study proposes a hybrid model of multi-criteria decision-making techniques—namely Fuzzy-AHP and ranking models such as evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS), technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS), and complex proportional assessment (COPRAS). The results indicate that the context-specific factors related to search and matchmaking options are the most preferred parameters for evaluation. Males and females have been found to differ in their preferences related to service quality and price. Next, the study compares the performance of three ranking models, namely EDAS, TOPSIS, and COPRAS. The first and second models provide similar results, while the rankings obtained through COPRAS differ slightly. The study contributes towards website evaluation literature by highlighting the importance of contextual factors while evaluating the matrimonial websites and the differences among preferences of the users

    Applications of Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process in Urban Mobility System

    Importance of urban mobility system is increasing from year to year. This is the reason why decision making process is increasingly complex requiring taking into account more and more different criteria. One of the important and commonly used techniques that support decision making processes is Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) while for the purpose of supporting a more realistic way of decision making, fuzzy logic is used. The paper examines the use of fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) in the urban mobility system. With the use of systematic literature review (SLR) it categorises peer reviewed journals’ articles related to the applications of FAHP in urban mobility system and extracted from Scopus and Web of science database, and analyses them methodologically. Papers were classified based on basic attributes of research papers, features of urban mobility system (UMS) where the FAHP was used, and use characteristics of the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP). The results of this study indicated that the use of FAHP in urban mobility system is increasing with the first published paper in 2009. Our review has found that FAHP is used for very different purposes such as evaluation of customer expectations or citing a selection problem. Most often it is used in combination with other methods. Interestingly, there is only one paper that uses FAHP for decision making in the whole urban mobility system

    RANKING TRAVEL AND TOURISM ENABLERS IN INDIA USING A FUZZY APPROACH

    This paper seeks to review the enablers for the Travel & Tourism (T&T) industry in India and to rank these factors. The paper aims to introduce a fuzzy TOPSIS approach for this purpose. The paper begins with a literature review to investigate the significant enablers in the T&T sector. The research was conducted among the tourists in the northern state of Uttarakhand, India which is a famous tourist destination both for adventure and pilgrimage. Fuzzy TOPSIS approach is used to meet the objectives of the study. Required information was gathered through a questionnaire. The results show that Safety & Security, Price, Transport and Infrastructure are the most important factors in Indian context.The paper will be helpful in enabling the T&T industry policy makers to identify the key service factors in the sector and take the improvement measuresThe concept of ranking T&T enablers using a Fuzzy TOPSIS is a new approach. The study is the unique application of a fuzzy approach to examine and rank customer expectations of the T&T enablers in Indian context

    An aggregated fuzzy model for the selection of a managed security service provider

    In this study, by analyzing the related literature, the companies providing security services and, more importantly, the data provided by a group of experts, a novel set of 39 criteria is extracted which assists the Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) selection process. The set is further categorized into eight general classes. The validity and weights of these criteria are measured by a group of experts in Iran. Due to the large number and often conflicting criteria, and the qualitative nature of the evaluations of the service providers, fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making methods (FMCDM) are adopted. In order to demonstrate the application of the proposed model, a numerical example is included, in which eight service providers are evaluated by four decision makers applying fuzzy TOPSIS, fuzzy VIKOR, fuzzy Group ELECTRE, and fuzzy SAW methods. Owing to the variations of the outputs of the applied MCDM methods, they are further analyzed by an aggregation method to propose a unique service provider. A comparison between the output of the aggregation method and the four applied Fuzzy MCDM methods is also made with the help of Euclidean, Hamming, Manhattan and Chebyshev distances. The comparison shows the minimum diversion between the outputs of the Fuzzy TOPSIS and the aggregation method, which indicates the appropriateness of the fuzzy TOPSIS method in this particular problem

    A novel model to measure supplier performance in the supplier selection process

    Supplier evaluation has become a significant topic over the past decades, as companies have started to become more outsourced oriented. However, previous research on this topic has not paid adequate attention to the limitations associated with availability of accurate and reliable data relating to the performance of potential suppliers. In an attempt to address this issue, this paper proposes a novel supplier evaluation model that can handle imprecise quantitative and qualitative data. Additionally, Decision Maker’s opinions regarding both qualitative and quantitative criteria are incorporated into this model so that a more comprehensive and realistic assessment of supplier performance can be achieved. The model combines five separate methods that have specific capabilities to handle multiple limitations in the existing methods: Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process and Fuzzy TOPSIS method are used to analyse qualitative criteria/data; Analytical Hierarchy Process and Axiomatic Design are used to analyse quantitative criteria/data, with a particular focus on handling variability in performance data; and Data Envelopment Analysis is used to integrate the results of the two approaches above so as to comparative assessment of supplier performance. This model is verified using a numerical example

    An Intuitionistic Fuzzy Group Decision-Making to Measure the Performance of Green Supply Chain Management with TOPSIS Method

    Green supply chain management (GSCM) integrates environmental regulations into supply chain management to diminish the negative effects of supply chain processes on the environment. The environmental problems appeared by an enterprise arise from designing the product and last until the recycling process. GSCM activities include five drivers such as green design, green purchasing, green transformation, green logistics and reverse logistics. In this chapter, the main aim is to explain these drivers and to show how to measure the GSCM success of companies, which operate as tire manufacturers by using an evaluation of a group of experts in their field. The proposed method, intuitionistic fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution as an effective group decision-making method, helped to identify the alternative company 1 with the best GSCM performance among six different alternative tire companies under the consideration of five important GSCM drivers.
