    Multispectral photography for earth resources

    Get PDF
A guide for producing accurate multispectral results for earth resource applications is presented along with theoretical and analytical concepts of color and multispectral photography. Topics discussed include: capabilities and limitations of color and color infrared films; image color measurements; methods of relating ground phenomena to film density and color measurement; sensitometry; considerations in the selection of multispectral cameras and components; and mission planning

BCR’s CDP Digital Imaging Best Practices, Version 2.0

    Get PDF
This is the published version. These Best Practices — also referred to as the CDP Best Practices -- have been created through the collaboration of working groups pulled from library, museum and archive practitioners. Version 1 was created through funding from the Institute for Museum and Library Services through a grant to the University of Denver and the Colorado Digitization Program in 2003. Version 2 of the guidelines were published by BCR in 2008 and represents a significant update of practices under the leadership of their CDP Digital Imaging Best Practices Working Group. The intent has been to help standardize and share protocols governing the implementation of digital projects. The result of these collaborations is a set of best practice documents that cover issues such as digital imaging, Dublin Core metadata and digital audio. These best practice documents are intended to help with the design and implementation of digitization projects. Because they were collaboratively designed by experts in the field, you can be certain they include the best possible information, in addition to having been field tested and proven in practice. These best practice documents are an ongoing collaborative project, and LYRASIS will add information and new documents as they are developed

Image manipulation: Photoshop as a data-measurement tool

Researchers believe that image manipulation threatens photography\u27s perceived objectivity of capturing moments in history. Current research exists that is aimed at determining whether images have been subjected to methods of manipulation. While this research is thorough in its approaches to detection, it lacks methods that would facilitate the measurement of those manipulations; This study uses Photoshop to measure the qualitative changes in images. The aesthetic dimensions set forth by Gillian Rose (2007) such as content, color, spatial organization, and light can be isolated, manipulated, and ultimately measured; This research is aimed at facilitating additional questions regarding what constitutes image manipulation, the extent of image manipulation using the methods described herein, and how image manipulation may affect the viewer. It also hopes to show that widely accepted practices of image modification need to be revisited as technologies continue to update at an unprecedented rate

Characterization of digital film scanner systems for use with digital scene algorithms

    Get PDF
Digital film scanners have been used in the photographic industry for more than a decade. The existence of digital image data has made possible the use of computer-based scene enhancement algorithms to improve image quality. These algorithms are usually device-dependent, functioning properly only for data generated by one scanner system. The complexity of most enhancement algorithms make them costly to develop, thus device-independent scene enhancement algorithms would be valuable. The computation of mathematical transformations to convert scanner data to a device-independent space is possible. The data created using these transformations should serve as the input for device-independent enhancement algorithms. A study to determine scanner data space transformations was performed. This study evaluated a subset of Operational Characteristics for three film scanners. These scanner characteristics were used to determine transformations to convert between scanner data spaces. These results were used as part of a system prototype to test the performance of scanner data space transformations
