Link level modelling techniques for analysing the configuration of link adaptation algorithms in mobile radio networks
The operation of Link Adaptation algorithms is based on channel quality estimates. It is therefore important to analyse the performance of such algorithms with link level models that properly capture the channel conditions and dynamics. Previous research [1] concluded that the use of simple link level models does not give an accurate prediction of the estimated performance of Link Adaptation algorithms. Following this previous work, this paper shows that the link level model considered for the study of Link Adaptation algorithms can also influence the decisions regarding the optimum configuration of the algorithm
A user perspective of quality of service in m-commerce
This is the post-print version of the Article. The official published version can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ 2004 Springer VerlagIn an m-commerce setting, the underlying communication system will have to provide a Quality of Service (QoS) in the presence of two competing factorsânetwork bandwidth and, as the pressure to add value to the business-to-consumer (B2C) shopping experience by integrating multimedia applications grows, increasing data sizes. In this paper, developments in the area of QoS-dependent multimedia perceptual quality are reviewed and are integrated with recent work focusing on QoS for e-commerce. Based on previously identified user perceptual tolerance to varying multimedia QoS, we show that enhancing the m-commerce B2C user experience with multimedia, far from being an idealised scenario, is in fact feasible if perceptual considerations are employed
Knowledge Rich Natural Language Queries over Structured Biological Databases
Increasingly, keyword, natural language and NoSQL queries are being used for
information retrieval from traditional as well as non-traditional databases
such as web, document, image, GIS, legal, and health databases. While their
popularity are undeniable for obvious reasons, their engineering is far from
simple. In most part, semantics and intent preserving mapping of a well
understood natural language query expressed over a structured database schema
to a structured query language is still a difficult task, and research to tame
the complexity is intense. In this paper, we propose a multi-level
knowledge-based middleware to facilitate such mappings that separate the
conceptual level from the physical level. We augment these multi-level
abstractions with a concept reasoner and a query strategy engine to dynamically
link arbitrary natural language querying to well defined structured queries. We
demonstrate the feasibility of our approach by presenting a Datalog based
prototype system, called BioSmart, that can compute responses to arbitrary
natural language queries over arbitrary databases once a syntactic
classification of the natural language query is made
Turbo-like Iterative Multi-user Receiver Design for 5G Non-orthogonal Multiple Access
Non-orthogonal multiple access (NoMA) as an efficient way of radio resource
sharing has been identified as a promising technology in 5G to help improving
system capacity, user connectivity, and service latency in 5G communications.
This paper provides a brief overview of the progress of NoMA transceiver study
in 3GPP, with special focus on the design of turbo-like iterative multi-user
(MU) receivers. There are various types of MU receivers depending on the
combinations of MU detectors and interference cancellation (IC) schemes.
Link-level simulations show that expectation propagation algorithm (EPA) with
hybrid parallel interference cancellation (PIC) is a promising MU receiver,
which can achieve fast convergence and similar performance as message passing
algorithm (MPA) with much lower complexity.Comment: Accepted by IEEE 88th Vehicular Technology Conference (IEEE VTC-2018

Efficient security for IPv6 multihoming
In this note, we propose a security mechanism for protecting IPv6
networks from possible abuses caused by the malicious usage of a
multihoming protocol. In the presented approach, each
multihomed node is assigned multiple prefixes from its upstream
providers, and it creates the interface identifier part of its
addresses by incorporating a cryptographic one-way hash of the
available prefix set. The result is that the addresses of each
multihomed node form an unalterable set of intrinsically bound
IPv6 addresses. This allows any node that is communicating with
the multihomed node to securely verify that all the alternative
addresses proposed through the multihoming protocol are
associated to the address used for establishing the communication.
The verification process is extremely efficient because it only
involves hash operationsPublicad
A visual workspace for constructing hybrid MDS algorithms and coordinating multiple views
Data can be distinguished according to volume, variable types and distribution, and each of these characteristics imposes constraints upon the choice of applicable algorithms for their visualisation. This has led to an abundance of often disparate algorithmic techniques. Previous work has shown that a hybrid algorithmic approach can be successful in addressing the impact of data volume on the feasibility of multidimensional scaling (MDS). This paper presents a system and framework in which a user can easily explore algorithms as well as their hybrid conjunctions and the data flowing through them. Visual programming and a novel algorithmic architecture let the user semi-automatically define data flows and the co-ordination of multiple views of algorithmic and visualisation components. We propose that our approach has two main benefits: significant improvements in run times of MDS algorithms can be achieved, and intermediate views of the data and the visualisation program structure can provide greater insight and control over the visualisation process
