A goal programming methodology for multiobjective optimization of distributed energy hubs operation
This paper addresses the problem of optimal energy flow management in multicarrier energy networks
in the presence of interconnected energy hubs. The overall problem is here formalized by a nonlinear
constrained multiobjective optimization problem and solved by a goal attainment based methodology.
The application of this solution approach allows the analyst to identify the optimal operation state of the
distributed energy hubs which ensures an effective and reliable operation of the multicarrier energy
network in spite of large variations of load demands and energy prices. Simulation results obtained on
the 30 bus IEEE test network are presented and discussed in order to demonstrate the significance and
the validity of the proposed method
Energy Harvesting for Secure OFDMA Systems
Energy harvesting and physical-layer security in wireless networks are of
great significance. In this paper, we study the simultaneous wireless
information and power transfer (SWIPT) in downlink orthogonal
frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) systems, where each user applies
power splitting to coordinate the energy harvesting and information decoding
processes while secrecy information requirement is guaranteed. The problem is
formulated to maximize the aggregate harvested power at the users while
satisfying secrecy rate requirements of all users by subcarrier allocation and
the optimal power splitting ratio selection. Due to the NP-hardness of the
problem, we propose an efficient iterative algorithm. The numerical results
show that the proposed method outperforms conventional methods.Comment: Accepted by WCSP 201
Outage Performance of Two-Hop OFDM Systems with Spatially Random Decode-and-Forward Relays
In this paper, we analyze the outage performance of different multicarrier
relay selection schemes for two-hop orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing
(OFDM) systems in a Poisson field of relays. In particular, special emphasis is
placed on decode-and-forward (DF) relay systems, equipped with bulk and
per-subcarrier selection schemes, respectively. The exact expressions for
outage probability are derived in integrals for general cases. In addition,
asymptotic expressions for outage probability in the high signal-to-noise ratio
(SNR) region in the finite circle relay distribution region are determined in
closed forms for both relay selection schemes. Also, the outage probabilities
for free space in the infinite relay distribution region are derived in closed
forms. Meanwhile, a series of important properties related to cooperative
systems in random networks are investigated, including diversity, outage
probability ratio of two selection schemes and optimization of the number of
subcarriers in terms of system throughput. All analysis is numerically verified
by simulations. Finally, a framework for analyzing the outage performance of
OFDM systems with spatially random relays is constructed, which can be easily
modified to analyze other similar cases with different forwarding protocols,
location distributions and/or channel conditions
Communication Subsystems for Emerging Wireless Technologies
The paper describes a multi-disciplinary design of modern communication systems. The design starts with the analysis of a system in order to define requirements on its individual components. The design exploits proper models of communication channels to adapt the systems to expected transmission conditions. Input filtering of signals both in the frequency domain and in the spatial domain is ensured by a properly designed antenna. Further signal processing (amplification and further filtering) is done by electronics circuits. Finally, signal processing techniques are applied to yield information about current properties of frequency spectrum and to distribute the transmission over free subcarrier channels
Ant-colony-based multiuser detection for multifunctional-antenna-array-assisted MC DS-CDMA systems
A novel Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) based Multi-User Detector (MUD) is designed for the synchronous Multi-Functional Antenna Array (MFAA) assisted Multi-Carrier Direct-Sequence Code-Division Multiple-Access (MC DS-CDMA) uplink (UL), which supports both receiver diversity and receiver beamforming. The ACO-based MUD aims for achieving a bit-error-rate (BER) performance approaching that of the optimum maximum likelihood (ML) MUD, without carrying out an exhaustive search of the entire MC DS-CDMA search space constituted by all possible combinations of the received multi-user vectors. We will demonstrate that regardless of the number of the subcarriers or of the MFAA configuration, the system employing the proposed ACO based MUD is capable of supporting 32 users with the aid of 31-chip Gold codes used as the T-domain spreading sequence without any significant performance degradation compared to the single-user system. As a further benefit, the number of floating point operations per second (FLOPS) imposed by the proposed ACO-based MUD is a factor of 108 lower than that of the ML MUD. We will also show that at a given increase of the complexity, the MFAA will allow the ACO based MUD to achieve a higher SNR gain than the Single-Input Single-Output (SISO) MC DS-CDMA system. Novel Optimization to Reduce Power Drainage in Mobile Devices for Multicarrier-based Communication
With increasing adoption of multicarrier-based communications e.g. 3G and 4G, the users are significantly benefited with impressive data rate but at the cost of battery life of their mobile devices. We reviewed the existing techniques to find an open research gap in this regard. This paper presents a novel framework where an optimization is carried out with the objective function to maintain higher level of equilibrium between maximized data delivery and minimized transmit power. An analytical model considering multiple radio antennae in the mobile device is presented with constraint formulations of data quality and threshold power factor. The model outcome is evaluated with respect to amount of power being conserved as performance factor. The study was found to offer maximum energy conservation and the framework also suits well with existing communication system of mobile networks
