VUV photon induced fluorescence study of SF5CF3

    Get PDF
The interaction of SF5_5CF3_3 with vacuum-UV radiation has been investigated by photon induced fluorescence spectroscopy. Total fluorescence yield and dispersed fluorescence spectra of SF5_5CF3_3 were recorded in the 200-1000 nm fluorescence window. In all cases, the fluorescence spectra resemble those of CF3_3X (X=H, F, Cl, and Br) molecules. At photon energies below 20 eV, the emission is attributed to the excited CF3_3 and CF2_2 fragments. The threshold for the CF3_3 emission is 10.2 ± 0.2 eV, giving an upper-limit estimate for the SF5_5-CF3_3 bond dissociation energy of 3.9 ± 0.3 eV. The excitation functions of the CF3 and CF2 emissions were measured in the photon energy range 13.6 – 27.0 eV. The resonant structures observed in SF5_5CF3_3 are attributed to electronic transitions from valence to Rydberg orbitals, following similar assignments in CF3_3X molecules. The photoabsorption spectrum of SF5_5CF3_3 shows features at the same energies, indicating a strong contribution from Rydberg excitations

A platform for collaborative quality assurance of bibliographical references and notes

    Get PDF
In scientific work it is common to work in teams, while dealing with an abundance of literature. With the help of a literature management software these can be collected and managed as well as exported in bibliographies. Many online sources offer functionalities to import references into reference management tools. However, the entries are often incomplete or faulty. Hence, this thesis covers a concept for a reference management platform that supports collaborative work and quality assurance of references. The main ideas are to use a group functionality to support collaboration and a rating system for the quality assurance. Additionally, the users can edit reference entries to improve their quality. As part of this thesis, a prototype was implemented which supports both aspects.

    Examining and Exposing the Darknet

This thesis consists of two studies; the first study is “Diving into the Darknet” and the second is “Exposing the Darknet on Mobile Devices”. The Darknet is a network of hidden sites and services which are built based on anonymity. In “Diving into the Darknet”, we applied different data science methods to establish the relationships between the data in the data set. This data set has information related to seller, drug types, and transactions. Additionally, we used Tableau to visualize the data set. For the second study, we took a digital forensics perspective of the Darknet. Orfox and Orbot, a Browser Bundle which is used to access the Darknet through mobile devices, were installed on a Galaxy Note 5 with Android 6.0.1. After the investigation, some theories of past studies were disproved by our method combined with E3: DS, a mobile digital forensics software package by Paraben. We believe that the combination of information from a user’s point of view and a technical perspective of digital forensics would bring the Darknet to light. Through this thesis, we hope that knowledge about the Darknet will be revealed and better understood

The improvement of a simple theoretical model for the prediction of the sound insulation of double leaf walls

    Get PDF
This paper presents a revised theory for predicting the sound insulation of double leaf cavity walls that removes an approximation, which is usually made when deriving the sound insulation of a double leaf cavity wall above the critical frequencies of the wall leaves due to the airborne transmission across the wall cavity. This revised theory is also used as a correction below the critical frequencies of the wall leaves instead of a correction due to Sewell [(1970). J. Sound Vib. 12, 21-32]. It is found necessary to include the 'stud' borne transmission of the window frames when modeling wide air gap double glazed windows. A minimum value of stud transmission is introduced for use with resilient connections such as steel studs. Empirical equations are derived for predicting the effective sound absorption coefficient of wall cavities without sound absorbing material. The theory is compared with experimental results for double glazed windows and gypsum plasterboard cavity walls with and without sound absorbing material in their cavities. The overall mean, standard deviation, maximum, and minimum of the differences between experiment and theory are -0.6 dB, 3.1 dB, 10.9 dB at 1250 Hz, and -14.9 dB at 160 Hz, respectively

This toolkit provides ten suggested steps to follow to create an online academic profile. It is not necessary to follow each step in order to create an online profile. Completing just some of the steps below will be an adequate start to creating an online profile. However, the more of the steps you follow, the more integrated and impactful your online profile will be. And while the initial time required to complete all of the steps below may seem high, little time is required to maintain your online profile once these initial steps have been completed

Systematic Review of the Literature on Black and Minority Ethnic Communities in Sport and Physical Recreation

    Get PDF
The Carnegie Research Institute was commissioned by Sporting Equals and the Sports Councils to conduct an independent systematic review of the literature on participation in sport and recreation by Black and minority ethnic (BME) communities. The brief was to focus on UK material from the past ten years, to compile an electronic, bibliographic database and use that evidence to assess the policy significance of existing knowledge in the drive to widen and increase participation. Although the field might still be considered under-researched over 300 items were identified. Judgements were made on the quality of the research on the basis of the methodological and theoretical soundness and the credibility of the link between the conclusions and the data. The various items were collated in an electronic, bibliographic database and coded as: substantive research of good quality; related public statistics and policy documents; and other related materials of interest. The research, policy and practice contained in this body of work is set within an expanding national and international framework of policy and legislation concerned with human rights and principles of equality. The Sports Councils and Sporting Equals have played a significant part in this through initiatives like the Equality Standard. They have not been acting in isolation, but have received support from other sports bodies with initiatives both to challenge discrimination and inequality and to promote participation and inclusion. Nonetheless, there still seems to be a measure of disconnection between research, sports policies and equality policies. Indeed, sports policies are sometimes based on limited representations of racism and so are inhibited in the way they address racial equality
