    The Utilization of Mobile Technology for Crime Scene Investigation in the San Francisco Bay Area

    The research presented aims to explore factors affecting the decision to adopt a mobile crime scene investigation application in police departments throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. To accomplish this goal, the mobile technology acceptance model was used in designing a survey for data collection. This model utilizes four categories to interpret the factors that influence a police officer’s decision to accept or reject mobile technologies: performance, security and reliability, management style, and cognitive acceptance. Nine police departments were sampled through a series of in-person and over-the-phone interviews to obtain data regarding factors affecting the adoption of a mobile crime scene investigation application. Results suggest that if a mobile crime scene investigation application were made available, a vast majority of the police departments in the Bay Area would implement this new technology

    Remarks on the Cryptographic Primitive of Attribute-based Encryption

    Attribute-based encryption (ABE) which allows users to encrypt and decrypt messages based on user attributes is a type of one-to-many encryption. Unlike the conventional one-to-one encryption which has no intention to exclude any partners of the intended receiver from obtaining the plaintext, an ABE system tries to exclude some unintended recipients from obtaining the plaintext whether they are partners of some intended recipients. We remark that this requirement for ABE is very hard to meet. An ABE system cannot truly exclude some unintended recipients from decryption because some users can exchange their decryption keys in order to maximize their own interests.     A Study of Key Management for Encrypted Storage in Storage Area Network

    As secure storage becomes more pervasive throughout the enterprise, the focus quickly moves from implementing encrypting storage devices to establishing effective and secure key management policies. Without the proper key generation, distribution, storage, and recovery, valuable data will be eventually compromised [9]. Although a considerable amount of research has been dedicated to encryption algorithms in the past decades, key management becomes an issue due to the quantity of data. For example, with millions of data you will need million set of keys. To manage and keep track of these keys, complexity and operational inefficiency becomes an issue. How to manage keys becomes a challenging task. Adequate understanding of these new challenges is essential to effectively devise new key management policies and mechanisms to guard against them.     Identity based proxy re-encryption scheme (IBPRE+) for secure cloud data sharing

Recently, Wang et al. introduced the concept of PRE plus (PRE+) scheme, which can be seen as the dual of PRE, and is almost the same as PRE scheme except that the re-encryption keys are generated by the encrypter. Compared to PRE, PRE+ scheme can easily achieve two important properties: first, the message-level based fine-grained delegation and, second, the non-transferable property. In this paper, we extend the concept of PRE+ to the identity based setting. We propose a concrete IBPRE+ scheme based on 3-linear map and roughly discuss its properties.
