UTP Interactive WAP Announcement
UTP Interactive WAP Application is a project that will enable UTP students to retrieve
information around UTP only by sending request through SMS. Currently, lecturers and
administration are usingUTP Website, UTP Buletin Board, E-learning, and notice board
to spread out information to students such as class replacement and club events.
However, due to various technical errors, students seldom log on to those websites.
Therefore, this project is developed as a backup to UTP Website and E-Iearning,
especially for high mobility students whoprefer to access Internet through Mobile phone
than from computers. Through their handphone, student will send request as provided in
the system menu to Web Server. Then, the Web Server which hold WAP content will
process the request and reply to the sender. The process is completed once the sender
received the requested information. This is the manuscript which reporting the whole
development of the project. To describe the study, background, problem statement,
objectives and scope of the project will be imparted in Introduction Chapter. Next, in
Literature Review Chapter, search and findings about the implementation and
architecture of WAP and WML technology together with other components in
developing the project is summarized. Next, as the framework that builds the project, the
procedures that have been gone through, and the software that is implemented namely
Nokia Mobile Internet Toolkit 4.0, EasyPHP, and Dreamweaver are generally described
in Methodology Chapter. In Result and Discussion Chapter, The output of the first and
second part of the study are imparted, displayed and discussed
A Taxonomy of Internet Appliances
The world is evolving from one in which almost all access to the Internet comes from personal
computers (PCs) to one in which so-called Internet appliances (IAs) will make up a greater share
of end-user equipment. Today's PC is a general-purpose, highly configurable and extensible
device ? an "intelligent end-node" of the sort the Internet's designers had in mind. As such, it
allows users much freedom of choice (such as which service provider to use, which Web sites to
visit, and which new software to download) in exchange for dealing with associated complexity.
An IA is a device connected to the Internet, but beyond that there is little consensus on
functionality and target markets. There is, however, general agreement that it reduces the level
of complexity seen by the user. A variety of approaches to reducing complexity are being
pursued. These fall on a spectrum from totally fixing the function of devices, to automating the
configuration of more general purpose systems. In the middle are devices whose functions
appear more or less fixed to the user, but which retain some limited capability for upgrade
through their Internet connection
Mobile Staff Instant Interaction System
The purpose of this report to give a detail a view about the final year project that has
been developed by author which is "Mobile Staff Instant Interaction System" which is
intended for lecturers and student using Local Area Network(LAN) wireless
connectivity. The report contents background of study, problem statement, objective
and scope of study, literature review and theory, methodology, and conclusion and
recommendation. Basically, the problem of the current situation is when a frequent
consultations and appointments have to be done for learning or project purposes.
Alternatively, the LAN-Based system will replace the current systems that are such as
Yahoo Messenger and email which require anaccess of internet when the connection is
off. The scope of the project is to keep the interaction between both entities constantly
beheld. Ausercould setanappointment to theintended target users form the registered
user and consult remotely using the appointment. The methodology been used is
waterfall model because the author is dealing with a proposed and new knowledge to
the author. This will need a furtherstudies and investigation on the wireless architecture
itself, WAP system development and implementation. As for conclusions, the author
has described about the recommendation and important of the system in term of
efficiency and time which are crucial thatcould accelerate a certain task progress
