Mapping of Climate Smart Programming in Refugee Hosting Districts in Uganda

    Get PDF
This non-standard helpdesk report maps out current climate-smart programming in Uganda’s refugee settlement regions, with a focus on water source protection, waste management, agroforestry, agriculture and energy. The main body of this report provides an outline of the findings of the mapping exercise and highlights the key organisations (donors, multilateral organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs)) working in the priority areas of environment and climate. A brief summary is also provided for each focus area on key programmes and insights (where found). A table with more detailed information on the organisations and their programmes/interventions (such as implementation dates, implementing partners, description of activities) is provided in the Annex at the end of the report. Programmes that explicitly mention refugees, displaced people or specific refugee settlements were the focus of this review; other broader environment or energy programmes for Uganda were mostly omitted. Furthermore, programmes did not always make mention of “climate-smart” specifically but referred to climate change considerations and sustainability. An in-depth, comprehensive and systematic survey of programmes was beyond the scope of this rapid review. Therefore, this review is not exhaustive, and is only able to present information that is publicly available and in existing analyses. Due to these limitations this review is only able to provide a general overview of programmes and incomplete information on the effectiveness of interventions. The research for this report has methodically examined key multilateral donor websites and bilateral donor websites for information on refugee programming in Uganda. The review has focused on programmes currently being implemented or that have completed in the last year or so. There may be projects that are in the pipeline of institutions but not yet approved, which were also not included. Due to the specific nature of this review, the main sources of information used were the websites and internal documents from donors and organisations working on humanitarian efforts in Uganda. Evaluations of the effectiveness and impact of programmes in particular were lacking. NOTE: This report contains an Annex: Climate smart programming in refugee hosting districts in Uganda – key players and interventions

Green recovery tracker : tracking the contribution of national covid-19 recovery efforts towards a climate neutral EU ; summary report

The idea for the Green Recovery Tracker was born in spring 2020 when governments started making announcements on economic Corona recovery measures. From a climate and resilience perspective it is key that those recovery packages, investments and subsidies are in line with long-term climate and sustainability targets. Thus, recovery packages should not only boost the economy in the short-term, but also strike the path to a just transition towards climate neutrality. Against this background, Wuppertal Institute and E3G have launched the Green Recovery Tracker project in late summer 2020 to shed light on the following questions: What can be considered an effective green recovery? What are good examples, which can be used as an inspiration for recovery programs aiming to support sustainable development? Where do the individual Member States stand with respect to aligning their recovery activities with the climate policy agenda? In this report, you will find our Methodology as well our Policy Briefing highlighting our key takeaways of our country and sectoral analyses. It further includes a section on "What can we learn from our experience with the Green Recovery Tracker?". The briefing concludes with a "Guidance for future funding programs and achieving climate targets overall"

The main objective of the ERAWATCH Annual Country Reports is to characterise and assess the performance of national research systems and related policies in a structured manner that is comparable across countries. EW Country Reports 2011 identify the structural challenges faced by national innovation systems. They further analyse and assess the ability of the policy mix in place to consistently and efficiently tackle these challenges. The annex of the reports gives an overview of the latest national policy efforts towards the enhancement of European Research Area and further assess their efficiency to achieve the targets. These reports were originally produced in November - December 2011, focusing on policy developments over the previous twelve months. The reports were produced by the ERAWATCH Network under contract to JRC-IPTS. The analytical framework and the structure of the reports have been developed by the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies of the Joint Research Centre (JRC-IPTS) and Directorate General for Research and Innovation with contributions from ERAWATCH Network Asbl.JRC.J.2-Knowledge for Growt
