Small electronic storage-devices, also known as Smart Labels or RFID-Tags, that emit the information they hold via radio signals, are intended to be mounted on or integrated in products to serve as means of product identification. These RFID-Tags shall store a product’s Electronic Product Code, a worldwide unique identifier of a single product. Based on this identifier information on the product is to be stored and kept available in an Internet-based, globally available information system. This information system shall provide the possibility to monitor the whole life-cycle of any product from production to disposal. Special benefits of this product surveillance system are expected in wholesale and retail businesses and supply chain management. Demokratie und Marktwirtschaft als Bedingungen für sozialen Fortschritt

Es soll zunächst (in Teil 2) eine allgemeine, evolutorische Wettbewerbstheorie präsentiert werden, die in der Lage ist, den Prozeß der Hervorbringung und Selektion von Neuerungen systematisch zu analysieren. Diese Theorie soll weiters erlauben (in Teil 3), wichtige Parallelen, aber auch systembedingte Unterschiede zwischen ökonomischen und politischen Wettbewerbsprozessen erkennbar werden zu lassen. Auch wenn Arenen kollektiven Handelns hinsichtlich der Generierung, wettbewerblichen Auswahl und selbstverantwortlichen Erprobung neuer, "fortschrittlicher" Sozialtechnologien weniger Aussichten bieten werden als ökonomische Wettbewerbsprozesse, ist hieraus nicht schlicht auf "Politikversagen" zu schließen. Der relevante Vergleich sollte auch im Politischen sein, wie es um die Fortschrittlichkeit einer Gesellschaft stünde, wenn Wettbewerb zwischen Problemlösungshypothesen künstlich reduziert würde. Vor diesem Hintergrund läßt sich auch aus ökonomischer Sicht ein Plädoyer für Demokratie, Föderalismus und Regierungswettbewerb als Bedingungen sozialen Fortschritts ableiten (Teil 4). --

First, the points of view of economists regarding falsificationism, scientific revolutions and scientific research programmes are discussed. Next, hardly debatable scientific progress regarding empirical economic research in recent decades is described. Then it is asked whether there have been scientific revolutions with respect to economic theory or the basic methodology of the economic approach. Taking this term seriously, there have been at best two revolutions since the time of Adam Smith. Today, economists share a common paradigm, which also builds the hard core of their scientific research programme. But while this hard core is hardly questioned, the safety belt is discussed the more. Nevertheless, most today’s economic research can be considered as being ‘normal science’. Das Konzept der Health Universities entstand als eine Antwort auf die Herausforderungen des Gesundheitswesens in den 1960er und 1970er Jahren. Es vereint bildungs- und versorgungspolitische Ansprüche, die schwierig unter einen Hut zu bringen sind. Wie hat sich dieses Konzept in Europa weiter entwickelt? Welche Bedeutung hat es für die Herausforderungen von heute? Dieser Bericht zeigt das Potential der Health Universities für eine bedarfsgerechte Ausbildung von Gesundheitsfachleuten zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts, indem Konzept, Relevanz und Best Practice beschrieben werden

Service Engineering – Demand specific design ofjournal services in a scientific special library

In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird für eine wissenschaftliche Spezialbibliothek eine neue Dienstleistung im Zeitschriftenbereich, nach den Prinzipien des Service Engineering, entwickelt. Um die Kundenorientierung zu gewährleisten, erfolgt zunächst eine Erforschung des Recherche- und Leseverhaltens von Wissenschaftlern, der Hauptzielgruppe der Bibliothek, in Literatur und Praxis. Zugleich wird das bestehende Dienstleistungsangebot anhand einer Stärken-Schwächen-Analyse auf sein Optimierungspotenzial geprüft. Aufbauend auf den Ergebnissen einer Online-Umfrage unter den Forschern, wird schließlich die neue Dienstleistung mit zugehörigem Produktmodell und Marketingkonzept gestaltet.This thesis deals with the development of a new service for the magazine division of a scientific special library, according to the principles of service engineering. To ensure costumer focus, first an exploration of research and reading behavior of scientists, the main target group of the library, is conducted in literature and practice. At the same time the existing services are reviewed on the basis of a SWOT analysis to discover the potential for optimization. Based on the results of an online survey among the researchers, the new service, attended with a product model and a marketing plan, is finally designed
