    Load-independent characterization of trade-off fronts for operational amplifiers

    Abstract—In emerging design methodologies for analog integrated circuits, the use of performance trade-off fronts, also known as Pareto fronts, is a keystone to overcome the limitations of the traditional top-down methodologies. However, most techniques reported so far to generate the front neglect the effect of the surrounding circuitry (such as the output load impedance) on the Pareto-front, thereby making it only valid for the context where the front was generated. This strongly limits its use in hierarchical analog synthesis because of the heavy dependence of key performances on the surrounding circuitry, but, more importantly, because this circuitry remains unknown until the synthesis process. We will address this problem by proposing a new technique to generate the trade-off fronts that is independent of the load that the circuit has to drive. This idea is exploited for a commonly used circuit, the operational amplifier, and experimental results show that this is a promising approach to solve the issue

    A brief control technology overview is given in Control Structures Interaction (CSI) by illustrating that many future NASA mission present significant challenges as represented by missions having a significantly increased number of important system states which may require control and by identifying key CSI technology needs. The JPL CSI related technology developments are discussed to illustrate that some of the identified control needs are being pursued. Since experimental confirmation of the assumptions inherent in the CSI technology is critically important to establishing its readiness for space program applications, the areas of ground and flight validation require high priority

    Continuum Equilibria and Global Optimization for Routing in Dense Static Ad Hoc Networks

    We consider massively dense ad hoc networks and study their continuum limits as the node density increases and as the graph providing the available routes becomes a continuous area with location and congestion dependent costs. We study both the global optimal solution as well as the non-cooperative routing problem among a large population of users where each user seeks a path from its origin to its destination so as to minimize its individual cost. Finally, we seek for a (continuum version of the) Wardrop equilibrium. We first show how to derive meaningful cost models as a function of the scaling properties of the capacity of the network and of the density of nodes. We present various solution methodologies for the problem: (1) the viscosity solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, for the global optimization problem, (2) a method based on Green's Theorem for the least cost problem of an individual, and (3) a solution of the Wardrop equilibrium problem using a transformation into an equivalent global optimization problem

    Active learning for feasible region discovery

    Often in the design process of an engineer, the design specifications of the system are not completely known initially. However, usually there are some physical constraints which are already known, corresponding to a region of interest in the design space that is called feasible. These constraints often have no analytical form but need to be characterised based on expensive simulations or measurements. Therefore, it is important that the feasible region can be modeled sufficiently accurate using only a limited amount of samples. This can be solved by using active learning techniques that minimize the amount of samples w.r.t. what we try to model. Most active learning strategies focus on classification models or regression models with classification accuracy and regression accuracy in mind respectively. In this work, regression models of the constraints are used, but only the (in) feasibility is of interest. To tackle this problem, an information-theoretic sampling strategy is constructed to discover these regions. The proposed method is then tested on two synthetic examples and one engineering example and proves to outperform the current state-of-the-art
