An efficient CDMA system based on Reed Solomon Code (RS code)
Accurate Error control is a necessary constraint for the design of Celluar Code Division Multiple Access ( CDMA ) systems. The Block codes can correct twice as many erasures as errors , the coded performance can be improved . In this paper , We propose â An efficient Error correcting coding in CDMA systems. The system performance is improved using FEC based on Walsh code and PN sequence. The power consumption of transrecevier is the requirement for low power communication systems such as wireless personal area networks , low data rate networks. The FEC schemes are selected based on its performance. To improve communication robustness , the correcting capabilities shall be seen to determine the transmit power. The probability of incorrect Decoding can be significantly improved using RS codes.
Energy-efficient wireless communication
In this chapter we present an energy-efficient highly adaptive network interface architecture and a novel data link layer protocol for wireless networks that provides Quality of Service (QoS) support for diverse traffic types. Due to the dynamic nature of wireless networks, adaptations in bandwidth scheduling and error control are necessary to achieve energy efficiency and an acceptable quality of service. In our approach we apply adaptability through all layers of the protocol stack, and provide feedback to the applications. In this way the applications can adapt the data streams, and the network protocols can adapt the communication parameters
On the Energy Efficiency of LT Codes in Proactive Wireless Sensor Networks
This paper presents an in-depth analysis on the energy efficiency of Luby
Transform (LT) codes with Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) modulation in a Wireless
Sensor Network (WSN) over Rayleigh fading channels with pathloss. We describe a
proactive system model according to a flexible duty-cycling mechanism utilized
in practical sensor apparatus. The present analysis is based on realistic
parameters including the effect of channel bandwidth used in the IEEE 802.15.4
standard, active mode duration and computation energy. A comprehensive
analysis, supported by some simulation studies on the probability mass function
of the LT code rate and coding gain, shows that among uncoded FSK and various
classical channel coding schemes, the optimized LT coded FSK is the most
energy-efficient scheme for distance d greater than the pre-determined
threshold level d_T , where the optimization is performed over coding and
modulation parameters. In addition, although the optimized uncoded FSK
outperforms coded schemes for d < d_T , the energy gap between LT coded and
uncoded FSK is negligible for d < d_T compared to the other coded schemes.
These results come from the flexibility of the LT code to adjust its rate to
suit instantaneous channel conditions, and suggest that LT codes are beneficial
in practical low-power WSNs with dynamic position sensor nodes.Comment: accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Signal Processin
Wireless industrial monitoring and control networks: the journey so far and the road ahead
While traditional wired communication technologies have played a crucial role in industrial monitoring and control networks over the past few decades, they are increasingly proving to be inadequate to meet the highly dynamic and stringent demands of todayâs industrial applications, primarily due to the very rigid nature of wired infrastructures. Wireless technology, however, through its increased pervasiveness, has the potential to revolutionize the industry, not only by mitigating the problems faced by wired solutions, but also by introducing a completely new class of applications. While present day wireless technologies made some preliminary inroads in the monitoring domain, they still have severe limitations especially when real-time, reliable distributed control operations are concerned. This article provides the reader with an overview of existing wireless technologies commonly used in the monitoring and control industry. It highlights the pros and cons of each technology and assesses the degree to which each technology is able to meet the stringent demands of industrial monitoring and control networks. Additionally, it summarizes mechanisms proposed by academia, especially serving critical applications by addressing the real-time and reliability requirements of industrial process automation. The article also describes certain key research problems from the physical layer communication for sensor networks and the wireless networking perspective that have yet to be addressed to allow the successful use of wireless technologies in industrial monitoring and control networks
When Both Transmitting and Receiving Energies Matter: An Application of Network Coding in Wireless Body Area Networks
A network coding scheme for practical implementations of wireless body area
networks is presented, with the objective of providing reliability under
low-energy constraints. We propose a simple network layer protocol for star
networks, adapting redundancy based on both transmission and reception energies
for data and control packets, as well as channel conditions. Our numerical
results show that even for small networks, the amount of energy reduction
achievable can range from 29% to 87%, as the receiving energy per control
packet increases from equal to much larger than the transmitting energy per
data packet. The achievable gains increase as a) more nodes are added to the
network, and/or b) the channels seen by different sensor nodes become more
asymmetric.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, submitted to the NC-Pro Workshop at IFIP
