Wireless Broadcast with Network Coding: A Connected Dominating Sets Approach
We study network coding for multi-hop wireless networks. We focus the case of broadcasting, where one source transmits information to all the nodes in the network. Our goal is energy-efficient broadcasting, in other words, to minimize the number of transmissions for broadcasting to the entire network. To achieve this goal, we propose a family of methods that combine the use of network coding and connected dominating sets. They consists in rate selections using connected dominated sets (RAUDS: Rate Adjustment Using Dominating Sets, and an generalized version, MARAUDS). The main insight behind these methods is that their use of connected dominating sets, allows near-optimality in the core of the network, while they efficiently handle borders and non-uniformity. The main contribution is a formal proof of the performance of these families of algorithms. One main result is the comparison of performance between routing and these methods (and in general, network coding)
Network Coding for Wireless Broadcast: Rate Selection with Dynamic Heuristics
Network coding is a novel method for transmitting data, which has been recently proposed, and has been shown to have potential to improve wireless network performance. In this article, we study using network coding for one specific case of multicast, broadcasting. Precisely, we focus on (energy-)efficient broadcasting in a multi-hop wireless networks: transmitting data from one source to all nodes with a small number of retransmissions. It is known that finding an efficient method to broadcast, is essentially summarized in selecting proper transmission rates of each node. Our contribution, is proposing a simple and efficient method for determining a rate selection. Our method adapts dynamically and uses only local dynamic information of neighbors: Dynamic Rate Adaptation from Gap with Other Nodes (D.R.A.G.O.N.). The rationale of this rate selection method is detailed from some logical arguments. Experimental results illustrate the behavior of the method, and its excellent performance

Distributed video coding in wireless multimedia sensor network for multimedia broadcasting
Recently the development of Distributed Video Coding (DVC) has provided the promising theory
support to realize the infrastructure of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Network (WMSN), which composed of autonomous hardware for capturing and transmission of quality audio-visual content. The implementation of DVC in WMSN can better solve the problem of energy constraint of the sensor nodes due to the benefit of lower computational encoder in DVC. In this paper, a practical DVC scheme, pixel-domain Wyner-Ziv(PDWZ) video
coding, with slice structure and adaptive rate selection(ARS) is proposed to solve the certain problems when applying DVC into WMSN. Firstly, the proposed slice structure in PDWZ has extended the feasibility of PDWZ to work with any interleaver size used in Slepian-wolf turbo codec for heterogeneous applications. Meanwhile,
based on the slice structure, an adaptive code rate selection has been proposed aiming at reduce the system delay occurred in feedback request. The simulation results clearly showed the enhancement in R-D performance and perceptual quality. It also can be observed that system delay caused by frequent feedback is greatly reduced, which gives a promising support for WMSN with low latency and facilitates the QoS management
Heuristics for Network Coding in Wireless Networks
Multicast is a central challenge for emerging multi-hop wireless
architectures such as wireless mesh networks, because of its substantial cost
in terms of bandwidth. In this report, we study one specific case of multicast:
broadcasting, sending data from one source to all nodes, in a multi-hop
wireless network. The broadcast we focus on is based on network coding, a
promising avenue for reducing cost; previous work of ours showed that the
performance of network coding with simple heuristics is asymptotically optimal:
each transmission is beneficial to nearly every receiver. This is for
homogenous and large networks of the plan. But for small, sparse or for
inhomogeneous networks, some additional heuristics are required. This report
proposes such additional new heuristics (for selecting rates) for broadcasting
with network coding. Our heuristics are intended to use only simple local
topology information. We detail the logic of the heuristics, and with
experimental results, we illustrate the behavior of the heuristics, and
demonstrate their excellent performance
3D video coding and transmission
The capture, transmission, and display of
3D content has gained a lot of attention in the last few
years. 3D multimedia content is no longer con fined to
cinema theatres but is being transmitted using stereoscopic
video over satellite, shared on Blu-RayTMdisks,
or sent over Internet technologies. Stereoscopic displays
are needed at the receiving end and the viewer needs to
wear special glasses to present the two versions of the
video to the human vision system that then generates
the 3D illusion. To be more e ffective and improve the
immersive experience, more views are acquired from a
larger number of cameras and presented on di fferent displays,
such as autostereoscopic and light field displays.
These multiple views, combined with depth data, also
allow enhanced user experiences and new forms of interaction
with the 3D content from virtual viewpoints.
This type of audiovisual information is represented by a
huge amount of data that needs to be compressed and
transmitted over bandwidth-limited channels. Part of
the COST Action IC1105 \3D Content Creation, Coding
and Transmission over Future Media Networks" (3DConTourNet)

Latency Optimal Broadcasting in Noisy Wireless Mesh Networks
In this paper, we adopt a new noisy wireless network model introduced very
recently by Censor-Hillel et al. in [ACM PODC 2017, CHHZ17]. More specifically,
for a given noise parameter any sender has a probability of
of transmitting noise or any receiver of a single transmission in its
neighborhood has a probability of receiving noise.
In this paper, we first propose a new asymptotically latency-optimal
approximation algorithm (under faultless model) that can complete
single-message broadcasting task in time units/rounds in any
WMN of size and diameter . We then show this diameter-linear
broadcasting algorithm remains robust under the noisy wireless network model
and also improves the currently best known result in CHHZ17 by a
factor.
In this paper, we also further extend our robust single-message broadcasting
algorithm to multi-message broadcasting scenario and show it can broadcast
messages in time rounds. This new robust
multi-message broadcasting scheme is not only asymptotically optimal but also
answers affirmatively the problem left open in CHHZ17 on the existence of an
algorithm that is robust to sender and receiver faults and can broadcast

Random Linear Network Coding for 5G Mobile Video Delivery
An exponential increase in mobile video delivery will continue with the
demand for higher resolution, multi-view and large-scale multicast video
services. Novel fifth generation (5G) 3GPP New Radio (NR) standard will bring a
number of new opportunities for optimizing video delivery across both 5G core
and radio access networks. One of the promising approaches for video quality
adaptation, throughput enhancement and erasure protection is the use of
packet-level random linear network coding (RLNC). In this review paper, we
discuss the integration of RLNC into the 5G NR standard, building upon the
ideas and opportunities identified in 4G LTE. We explicitly identify and
discuss in detail novel 5G NR features that provide support for RLNC-based
video delivery in 5G, thus pointing out to the promising avenues for future
