Bayesian Design of Tandem Networks for Distributed Detection With Multi-bit Sensor Decisions
We consider the problem of decentralized hypothesis testing under
communication constraints in a topology where several peripheral nodes are
arranged in tandem. Each node receives an observation and transmits a message
to its successor, and the last node then decides which hypothesis is true. We
assume that the observations at different nodes are, conditioned on the true
hypothesis, independent and the channel between any two successive nodes is
considered error-free but rate-constrained. We propose a cyclic numerical
design algorithm for the design of nodes using a person-by-person methodology
with the minimum expected error probability as a design criterion, where the
number of communicated messages is not necessarily equal to the number of
hypotheses. The number of peripheral nodes in the proposed method is in
principle arbitrary and the information rate constraints are satisfied by
quantizing the input of each node. The performance of the proposed method for
different information rate constraints, in a binary hypothesis test, is
compared to the optimum rate-one solution due to Swaszek and a method proposed
by Cover, and it is shown numerically that increasing the channel rate can
significantly enhance the performance of the tandem network. Simulation results
for -ary hypothesis tests also show that by increasing the channel rates the
performance of the tandem network significantly improves
System based on inertial sensors for behavioral monitoring of wildlife
Sensors Network is an integration of multiples
sensors in a system to collect information about different
environment variables. Monitoring systems allow us to
determine the current state, to know its behavior and
sometimes to predict what it is going to happen. This work
presents a monitoring system for semi-wild animals that
get their actions using an IMU (inertial measure unit) and
a sensor fusion algorithm. Based on an ARM-CortexM4
microcontroller this system sends data using ZigBee
technology of different sensor axis in two different
operations modes: RAW (logging all information into a SD
card) or RT (real-time operation). The sensor fusion
algorithm improves both the precision and noise
interferences.Junta de AndalucĂa P12-TIC-130
3D Multi-Objective Deployment of an Industrial Wireless Sensor Network for Maritime Applications Utilizing a Distributed Parallel Algorithm
Effective monitoring marine environment has become a vital problem in the marine applications. Traditionally, marine application mostly utilizes oceanographic research vessel methods to monitor the environment and human parameters. But these methods are usually expensive and time-consuming, also limited resolution in time and space. Due to easy deployment and cost-effective, WSNs have recently been considered as a promising alternative for next generation IMGs. This paper focuses on solving the issue of 3D WSN deployment in a 3D engine room space of a very large crude-oil carrier (VLCC), in which many power devices are also considered. To address this 3D WSN deployment problem for maritime applications, a 3D uncertain coverage model is proposed with a new 3D sensing model and an uncertain fusion operator, is presented. The deployment problem is converted into a multi-objective problems (MOP) in which three objectives are simultaneously considered: Coverage, Lifetime and Reliability. Our aim is to achieve extensive Coverage, long Lifetime and high Reliability. We also propose a distributed parallel cooperative co-evolutionary multi-objective large-scale evolutionary algorithm (DPCCMOLSEA) for maritime applications. In the simulation experiments, the effectiveness of this algorithm is verified in comparing with five state-of-the-art algorithms. The numerical outputs demonstrate that the proposed method performs the best with respect to both optimization performance and computation time
Efficient Compressive Sampling of Spatially Sparse Fields in Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks (WSN), i.e. networks of autonomous, wireless sensing
nodes spatially deployed over a geographical area, are often faced with
acquisition of spatially sparse fields. In this paper, we present a novel
bandwidth/energy efficient CS scheme for acquisition of spatially sparse fields
in a WSN. The paper contribution is twofold. Firstly, we introduce a sparse,
structured CS matrix and we analytically show that it allows accurate
reconstruction of bidimensional spatially sparse signals, such as those
occurring in several surveillance application. Secondly, we analytically
evaluate the energy and bandwidth consumption of our CS scheme when it is
applied to data acquisition in a WSN. Numerical results demonstrate that our CS
scheme achieves significant energy and bandwidth savings wrt state-of-the-art
approaches when employed for sensing a spatially sparse field by means of a
WSN.Comment: Submitted to EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processin
Cooperative subcarrier sensing using antenna diversity based weighted virtual sub clustering
The idea of cooperation and the clustering amongst cognitive radios (CRs) has recently been focus of attention of research community, owing to its potential to improve performance of spectrum sensing (SS) schemes. This focus has led to the paradigm of cluster based cooperative spectrum sensing (CBCSS). In perspective of high date rate 4th generation wireless systems, which are characterized by orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and spatial diversity, there is a need to devise effective SS strategies. A novel CBCSS scheme is proposed for OFDM subcarrier detection in order to enable the non-contiguous OFDM (NC-OFDM) at the physical layer of CRs for efficient utilization of spectrum holes. Proposed scheme is based on the energy detection in MIMO CR network, using equal gain combiner as diversity combining technique, hard combining (AND, OR and Majority) rule as data fusion technique and antenna diversity based weighted clustering as virtual sub clustering algorithm. Results of proposed CBCSS are compared with conventional CBCSS scheme for AND, OR and Majority data fusion rules. Moreover the effects of antenna diversity, cooperation and cooperating clusters are also discussed
