    Identification of the critical enablers for perishable food supply chain using deterministic assessment models

    Today’s perishable food supply chains must be resilient to handle volatile demands, environmental restrictions, and disruptions in order to meet customers’ requirements. The enablers of the perishable food supply chain have not yet been explored. In this paper, a bibliometric systematic literature review has been conducted to identify the articles related to the perishable food supply chain. Next, with these identified articles, a map is created with bibliographic data using Vosviewer network visualization software, and then the enablers were identified by conducting keyword co-occurrence analysis. Later, a total interpretive structural modeling (TISM) is employed to analyze the interrelationships among enablers and then determine each enabler’s hierarchies, further representing them in a diagraph. Finally, the identified enablers are classified using cross-impact matrix multiplication applied to classification (MICMAC) analysis, and the graph is plotted. The results obtained from the deterministic assessment model provide the critical enablers for the perishable food supply chain.     Research developments in Sustainable Supply Chain Management considering Optimization and Industry 4.0 Techniques: A Systematic Review

    Purpose – The literature that is presently available on sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) combining Optimization and Industry 4.0 techniques falls short in its depictions of the recent developments, budding pertinent areas, and the importance of SSCM in the growth of industrial economies around the world. This article's main objective is to analyze current trends, highlight the latest initiatives, and perform a meta-analysis of the literature that is currently accessible in the SSCM area with a special focus on optimization and Industry 4.0 techniques. The paper also proposes a conceptual framework that will assist in illuminating how the ideas of optimization and Industry 4.0 may contribute to realizing sustainability in supply chains. Design/methodology/approach – The proposed study systematically reviews 85 research publications published between 2010 and 2022 in referenced peer-reviewed journals in diverse fields, including engineering, business and management, services, and healthcare. Numerous categories are considered throughout the examination of the literature, including year-wise publications, prominent journals, type of research design, concerned industry, and research technique used. Findings – The study demonstrates a deeper comprehension of the literature in the field and its evolution throughout numerous industry sectors, which is helpful for both practitioners and academics. The results from the content analysis highlight various future research opportunities in the domain. Originality/value – This is one of the first research articles that have attempted to establish, analyse, and highlight the current trends and initiatives in the SSCM domain from an optimization and Industry 4.0 techniques viewpoint. The cluster-based future research propositions also enhance the novelty of the study

    Smart manufacturing for industry 4.0 using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology

    Industry 4.0 (I4.0) presents a unique challenge of efficiently transforming traditional manufacturing to smart and autonomous systems.Integrating manufacturing systems, materials, machinery, operators, products and consumers, improve interconnectivity and traceability across the entire product life cycle in order to ensure the horizontal and vertical integration of networked Smart Manufacturing (SM) systems. Manufacturing functions of Material Handling (MH)-control, storage, protection and transport of raw materials, work in process (WIP) and finished products- throughout a manufacturing and distribution process will need a revamp in ways they are currently being carried in order to transition them into the SM era. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), an Automated Identification Data Capture (AIDC) technology increasingly being used to enhance MH functions in the (SM) industry, due to opportunities it presents for item tracking, out of sight data capturing, navigation and space mapping abilities. The technology readiness level of RFID has presented many implementation challenges as progress is being made to fully integrate the technology into the preexisting MH functions. Recently, many researchers in academia and industry have described various methods of using RFID for improving and efficiently carrying out MH functions as a gradual transition is being made into I4.0 era. This paper reviews and categorize research finding regarding RFID application developments according to various MH functions in SM, tabulates how various I4.0 enablers are needed to transform various traditional manufacturing functions into SM. It aims to let more experts know the current research status of RFID technology and provide some guidance for future research

    Supply Chain RFID Solution Evaluation Applying AHP and FAHP Methods: A Case Study of the Serbian Market

    There has been a recent years tendency for replacing traditional supply chain data identifying and collecting systems with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technologies. There are different RFID solutions on the market and it is crucial to choose the solution that best suits the set of goals and desired scenarios. The choice of solution depends on a whole range of different factors and criteria. The present paper develops multi-criteria evaluation models based on the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and FAHP (Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process) approach. There are no papers in the literature that solve the mentioned problem in this way, on a real example. Three RFID solutions are defined referring to different data identification levels in supply chains, namely: product level, level of packaging and the level of the pallet. Solutions are evaluated, and rated in relation to four criteria: investments, costs, participants\u27 visibility and participants\u27 privacy protection in supply chains. Developed models are tested and applied via a case study conducted in the Serbian market. The model is an excellent basis for decision-making in practice and for researchers in the literature, while with certain modifications, it can be used for other similar problems

    Digital twin-driven real-time planning, monitoring, and controlling in food supply chains

    There needs to be more clarity about when and how the digital twin approach could benefit the food supply chains. In this study, we develop and solve an integrated problem of procurement, production, and distribution strategies (PPDs) in a medium-scale food processing company. Using the digital twin approach, the model considers the industrial symbiosis opportunities between the supplier, manufacturer, and customer using interval and sequence variables operating in a constrained environment using mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) and agent-based simulation (ABS) methodology. The study optimizes the make-span and lead time, simultaneously achieving a higher level of digitalization. The analysis demonstrates how digital twin accelerates supply chain productivity by improving makespan time, data redundancy (DR), optimal scheduling plan (OSP), overall operations effectiveness (OOE), overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), and capacity utilization. Our findings provide compelling evidence that the seamless integration PPDs enormously enhance production flexibility, resulting in an excellent service level of 94 %. Managers leverage real-time simulation to accurately estimate the replenishment point with minimal lead time, ensuring optimized operations. Furthermore, our results demonstrate that implementing PPDs has yielded considerable benefits. Specifically, we observed a remarkable 65 % utilization of the pasteurizer and aging vessel and an impressive 97 % utilization of the freezer. Moreover, by applying the DT model, the present model found a notable 6 % reduction in backlog, further streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency

    CONTEMPLATION OF OPERATIONS PERSPECTIVES ENCUMBERING THE PRODUCTION-CONSUMPTION AVENUES OF THE PROCESSED FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN

    In developing nations, the changing lifestyle of the masses and the winds of globalization have increased the consumption rate of processed food items. However, the network of processed food supply chains is confronting various challenges impacting the production-consumption avenues. The presented work aims to identify and analyze the challenges encumbering the processed food supply chain dynamics. To meet this goal, thirty-two distinct challenges are identified from the research literature and refined by seeding inputs from field experts into an exploratory factor analysis. Challenges of high field relevance are further analyzed for the contextual interrelationships and severity by the novel hybrid approach Interval Valued Neutrosophic Vague Set Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory. The outcomes of the presented work find their implication in formulating the decisional framework and strategic and tactical roadmaps to mitigate the impact of these challenges to mapping demand and supply patterns
