    Dynamic layout of visual summaries for scalable video

    The paper brings a novel method for generating visual summaries of scalable videos. The generated summaries can dynamically adapt to requirements defined by display size, userpsilas needs or channel limitations. It utilises compressed domain features coupled with efficient contour evolution algorithm in order to generate a scale space of temporal video descriptors. The layout of the visual summary is created using an efficient graph clustering technique and a fast discrete optimisation algorithm, enabling dynamic video summarisation in real-time. The experimental results show good scalability of the dynamic layout and highly efficient generation of visual summaries

    Reviewing lifelogging data has been proposed as a useful tool to support human memory. However, the sheer volume of data (particularly images) that can be captured by modern lifelogging systems makes the selection and presentation of material for review a challenging task. We present the results of a five-week user study involving 16 participants and over 69,000 images that explores both individual requirements for video summaries and the differences in cognitive load, user experience, memory experience, and recall experience between review using video summarisations and non-summary review techniques. Our results can be used to inform the design of future lifelogging data summarisation systems for memory augmentation

    An Overview of Video Shot Clustering and Summarization Techniques for Mobile Applications

    The problem of content characterization of video programmes is of great interest because video appeals to large audiences and its efficient distribution over various networks should contribute to widespread usage of multimedia services. In this paper we analyze several techniques proposed in literature for content characterization of video programmes, including movies and sports, that could be helpful for mobile media consumption. In particular we focus our analysis on shot clustering methods and effective video summarization techniques since, in the current video analysis scenario, they facilitate the access to the content and help in quick understanding of the associated semantics. First we consider the shot clustering techniques based on low-level features, using visual, audio and motion information, even combined in a multi-modal fashion. Then we concentrate on summarization techniques, such as static storyboards, dynamic video skimming and the extraction of sport highlights. Discussed summarization methods can be employed in the development of tools that would be greatly useful to most mobile users: in fact these algorithms automatically shorten the original video while preserving most events by highlighting only the important content. The effectiveness of each approach has been analyzed, showing that it mainly depends on the kind of video programme it relates to, and the type of summary or highlights we are focusing on

    Activity-driven content adaptation for effective video summarisation

    In this paper, we present a novel method for content adaptation and video summarization fully implemented in compressed-domain. Firstly, summarization of generic videos is modeled as the process of extracted human objects under various activities/events. Accordingly, frames are classified into five categories via fuzzy decision including shot changes (cut and gradual transitions), motion activities (camera motion and object motion) and others by using two inter-frame measurements. Secondly, human objects are detected using Haar-like features. With the detected human objects and attained frame categories, activity levels for each frame are determined to adapt with video contents. Continuous frames belonging to same category are grouped to form one activity entry as content of interest (COI) which will convert the original video into a series of activities. An overall adjustable quota is used to control the size of generated summarization for efficient streaming purpose. Upon this quota, the frames selected for summarization are determined by evenly sampling the accumulated activity levels for content adaptation. Quantitative evaluations have proved the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed approach, which provides a more flexible and general solution for this topic as domain-specific tasks such as accurate recognition of objects can be avoided

    The prototype of web usability testing application is an application that will be used by the developer and evaluator to check and verify the usability of the corporate web pages or sites. The application will consist of usability test that will incorporate three main elements of web site; web design, web navigation and web functions. The first project objective is to help the web developer to ensure the usability of their web site by using the developed prototype. The next objective is to gather technical data or recommendations from the user to be incorporated in the prototype application. The technical data will represent the elements that most of users need in the web site. The scope of this project is about identifying the usability components under the three major elements of web site which is web design, web navigation and web function. The compilation of the components will be the guideline incorporated in the prototype application. The prototype will be developed and used to test the usability of the web site. For the success of the project, the basic System Development Life Cycle methodology that is Waterfall Model will be used whereby it has five phases; planning, analysis, design, implementation and support. The product of the project will lead to build a prototype of web usability testing application that can be used throughout the web development process and to check the usability of the web from time to time
