Towards SVC-based adaptive streaming in information centric networks
HTTP Adaptive Streaming (HAS) is becoming the de-facto standard for video streaming services. In HAS, each video is segmented and stored in different qualities. The client can dynamically select the most appropriate quality level to download, allowing it to adapt to varying network conditions. As the Internet was not designed to deliver such applications, optimal support for multimedia delivery is still missing. Information Centric Networking (ICN) is a recently proposed disruptive architecture that could solve this issue, where the focus is given to the content rather than to end-to-end connectivity. Due to the bandwidth unpredictability typical of ICN, standard AVC-based HAS performs quality selection sub-optimally, thus leading to a poor Quality of Experience (QoE). In this article, we propose to overcome this inefficiency by using Scalable Video Coding (SVC) instead. We individuate the main advantages of SVC-based HAS over ICN and outline, both theoretically and via simulation, the research challenges to be addressed to optimize the delivered QoE
Scalable and Cost Efficient Algorithms for Virtual CDN Migration
Virtual Content Delivery Network (vCDN) migration is necessary to optimize
the use of resources and improve the performance of the overall SDN/NFV-based
CDN function in terms of network operator cost reduction and high streaming
quality. It requires intelligent and enticed joint SDN/NFV migration algorithms
due to the evident huge amount of traffic to be delivered to end customers of
the network. In this paper, two approaches for finding the optimal and near
optimal path placement(s) and vCDN migration(s) are proposed (OPAC and HPAC).
Moreover, several scenarios are considered to quantify the OPAC and HPAC
behaviors and to compare their efficiency in terms of migration cost, migration
time, vCDN replication number, and other cost factors. Then, they are
implemented and evaluated under different network scales. Finally, the proposed
algorithms are integrated in an SDN/NFV framework. Index Terms: vCDN; SDN/NFV

A Space Efficient Data Management Scheme on Content Delivery Networks for Online Video Provisioning
In this paper CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) have been widely implemented to provide scalable cloud services. Such networks support resource pooling by permitting virtual machines or physical servers to be dynamically activated and deactivated consistent with current user demand. This paper examines on-line video replication and placement problems in Content delivery networks an efficient video provisioning scheme should simultaneously utilize system resources to reduce total energy consumption and limit replication overhead. We inclined to propose a scheme known as adaptive information placement that may dynamically place and reorganize video replicas among cache servers on subscribers’ arrival and departure. Both the analyses and simulation results show that adaptive information placement will reduce the number of activated cache servers with restricted replication overhead.
