Asset Management for Retaining Walls

The work described here represents an attempt to develop a comprehensive risk management framework for the asset management of retaining wall structures. The work presented includes the development of a sensing strategy that can be used by structural inspectors to assess the coupled performance of the wall structure and the geotechnical system it supports. A reliability framework was developed using first-order reliability methods (FORM) to assess the reliability factor (β) for wall components and incorporates the consequences of failure with the estimated structural reliability factors to provide a basis for risk assessment of retaining walls. Welcome to the 20th International Conference on Construction Applications of Virtual Reality (CONVR 2020). This year we are meeting on-line due to the current Coronavirus pandemic. The overarching theme for CONVR2020 is "Enabling the development and implementation of Digital Twins". CONVR is one of the world-leading conferences in the areas of virtual reality, augmented reality and building information modelling. Each year, more than 100 participants from all around the globe meet to discuss and exchange the latest developments and applications of virtual technologies in the architectural, engineering, construction and operation industry (AECO). The conference is also known for having a unique blend of participants from both academia and industry. This year, with all the difficulties of replicating a real face to face meetings, we are carefully planning the conference to ensure that all participants have a perfect experience. We have a group of leading keynote speakers from industry and academia who are covering up to date hot topics and are enthusiastic and keen to share their knowledge with you. CONVR participants are very loyal to the conference and have attended most of the editions over the last eighteen editions. Ultrasonic assisted machining

A commercially available DMG MORI ULTRASONIC 65 monoBLOCK machining centre was installed in WMG in 2013 and has been primarily used to machine aerospace grade materials such as carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) and titanium alloy Ti 6Al-4V (individually and stacked) and 2000 / 6000 series aluminium alloys. Rather than discuss a single set of experimental work in detail, this paper discusses some of the issues that have been encountered when applying the technique of ultrasonic assisted machining (UAM) and some of the effects that have been observed using examples from the research conducted so far to illustrate some of the more important findings

SPATIAL TRANSFORMATION PATTERN DUE TO COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY IN KAMPONG HOUSE

ABSTRACT Kampung houses are houses in kampung area of the city. Kampung House oftenly transformed into others use as urban dynamics. One of the transfomation is related to the commercial activities addition by the house owner. It make house with full private space become into mixused house with more public spaces or completely changed into full public commercial building. This study investigate the spatial transformation pattern of the kampung houses due to their commercial activities addition. Site observations, interviews and questionnaires were performed to study the spatial transformation. This study found that in kampung houses, the spatial transformation pattern was depend on type of commercial activities and owner perceptions, and there are several steps of the spatial transformation related the commercial activity addition.
