    Getting Old And Technology

    Get PDF
It is generally agreed upon that the purpose of technology is to aid humanity through various means like: making a task more convenient, or overcoming something previously deemed “impossible.” From the dawn of man to the era in which we stand, technology has steadily improved alongside civilization. This steady progress has seemingly hastened every year. Looking at technology from the viewpoint of “necessary everyday life tasks,” the past three decades have changed dramatically. With every year that passes, more things have become accessible through the web. Not everyone can keep pace with this rapid expansion into the “non-physical” digital world that hides beyond screens. One of these “left behind” groups is the elderly. This literature review’s purpose is to determine what exactly causes the elderly to fall behind in technological literacy. This investigation seeks to answer questions like, “what challenges arise that prevent the elderly from using new technology?” and “does the product’s design favor the young over the old?” The review aims to analyze various studies and determine specific and cross-cultural causes that the elderly face when interacting with technology

The book contains essays on current issues in arts and humanities in which peoples and cultures compete as well as collaborate in globalizing the world while maintaining their uniqueness as viewed from cross- and inter-disciplinary perspectives. The book covers areas such as literature, cultural studies, archaeology, philosophy, history, language studies, information and literacy studies, and area studies. Asia and the Pacific are the particular regions that the conference focuses on as they have become new centers of knowledge production in arts and humanities and, in the future, seem to be able to grow significantly as a major contributor of culture, science and arts to the globalized world. The book will help shed light on what arts and humanities scholars in Asia and the Pacific have done in terms of research and knowledge development, as well as the new frontiers of research that have been explored and opening up, which can connect the two regions with the rest of the globe

© 2017 IEEE. Recent advances in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have stimulated the need for adaptation of new models of teaching and learning in educational institutions. Since the beginning, the use of technology in education has gained a lot of attention and has been applied to many areas in the academic domain. The introduction of ICT has motivated scholars to find out how various ICT tools could be deployed and efficiently used. Due to rapid changes in ICT, an extended TAM (ETAM) has been developed to highlight the demand for using advanced ICT tools in the education process. The idea is to support the acceptance of technology implementations by modifying the conventional model with the pre-acknowledgement of additional elements that reflect the state of art technological advances. These additional factors aim to increase the motivation acceptance levels by instructors and students alike towards ICT teaching and learning studio style

A Future Archaeology of the Mobile Telecoms Industry.

In 2000, five consortia spent twenty billion pounds on UK radio spectrum licences for 3rd Generation mobile telephony or '3G'. They were investing in a future, in a specific story of the future, a story of ubiquitous wireless telecommunications. The thesis addresses questions raised in social studies of science and technology as to how such a future is made in everyday practices inside the industry, and how this future might be made otherwise. The research draws on Donna Haraway's method of 'interference' into the making of technoscientific knowledge. Rather than simply critique the future of the mobile telecoms industry, the thesis develops two methods that enact two different interferences into the making of the future in the industry. Both methods begin with a four month ethnography at a design studio of a major mobile phone manufacturer, extended interviews with key informants throughout the industry, and a substantial documentary archive. This forms a necessarily partial and fragmentary set of evidence from which multiple accounts may be reconstructed. The first method is ethnographic, and draws on the evidence to form an account of the industry and its futures situated close to London. The second method is archaeological, and draws on the evidence to form an account of the industry and its futures situated close to the 'Heart of Neolithic Orkney' World Heritage Site on the archipelago of Orkney, Scotland - a method of Future Archaeology. Through these two methods the thesis explores and demonstrates the effect of location and landscape on the making of the future in the mobile telecoms industry. And it demonstrates the important role of writing-as-method within social studies of science and technology
