Should Diamond OA be viewed as a threat to librarians?

International audienceOpen access has become a growth opportunity for publishers with the " Gold Open Access APC " model and the hybrid model. During the period 2012-2015, these proposals generated a lot of lively discussions. has made some recommendations to French mathematicians for their publications asking them not to choose the author-pays option for open access, especially for hybrid journals, and not to include publication fees (APC, author processing charges) in funding requests. The rejection of the author-pays model by French mathematicians gives a boost to the development of other economic models of scientific edition, especially the Diamond OA (Gold OA without APC). This new model requires new skills from librarians. In this paper we present the Diamond OA publishing model, with a stress on the French situation in mathematics, and then explore the problem of how this model could impact libraries and librarians. Everybody says that Open Access is a real opportunity for libraries but we would like to be a little provocative: is Diamond Open Access a threat to librarians

This paper provides both an update concerning the setting up of the European DARIAH infrastructure and a series of strong action lines related to the development of a data centred strategy for the humanities in the coming years. In particular we tackle various aspect of data management: data hosting, the setting up of a DARIAH seal of approval, the establishment of a charter between cultural heritage institutions and scholars and finally a specific view on certification mechanisms for data

Episciences IAM: un projet éditorial entre rupture et continuité

International audienceWith the launch of two scientific journals, Episciences IAM (Informatics and Applied Mathematics) is moving towards Overlay Journals. The idea is to publish scientific results labeled by the best journals. This contributes to Open Access publishing, for free and fair access. Within a technical platform, scientific contributions already in open archives are submitted to a process of evaluation and scientific validation. Designed as an inter-institutional research infrastructure, Episciences IAM project builds on the Episciences platform, developed and hosted by the CCSD of CNRSAvec le lancement de deux revues scientifiques, Episciences IAM (Informatics and Applied Mathematics) s'engage dans la voie des épi-journaux.

Elements of a scientific communication policy

International audienceThe development of open access in France has since long been leaning towards a green (i.e. deposit in publication repositories) preference. This has been reflected recently in the debates around the Loi pour une République Numérique where the focus has been put on embargoes and re-use rights for data mining activities. Inria, the national research organisation for computer science and applied mathematics, has gone even further by implementing a deposit mandate associated to a very cautious policy with regards author-pays publication models. In our talk, we will present the tenets for such a policy, advocating the need to have a coherent vision of the future of scientific communication comprising such aspects as document format, licences, certification, hosting, authorities, etc

The scope of open peer review in the scholarly publishing ecosystem

    Get PDF
This study explores the selective corpus of existing literature on Open Peer Review (OPR) to understand and map theextent of adoption of OPR in the scholarly communication, the reflection of different aspects of human emotion embeddedin the open peer review reports and authors’ response as well, the influence of OPR reports on citation status of articles, andapplication of Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence and similar technologies in improving the operational viability as well asacceptability of OPR among the scholarly community. The study finds the emergence of various OPR adoption policies andlevels of adoption together with emerging models of scientific publishing. Clearly, there is a lack of uniform OPR adoptionpolicy. It also highlights the association of different sets of human emotional traits with OPR reports. The experimentationwith the possibility of treating preprint servers and open access repositories as a manuscript marketplace for the eventualselection of articles for open peer review and journal publication is noticed. More research on the influence of humanbehavioural aspects on OPR practice and the application of emergent technologies in OPR would be required before finallysettling down on a stable roadmap for OPR
