    Viscous Dissipation Effect On The MHD Flow Of A Third Grade Fluid Down: an Inclined Plane With Ohmic Heating

    The thin film flow and heat transfer problem of a third grade fluid down an inclined plane is investigated. The fluid is incompressible and electrically conducting in the presence of a uniform magnetic field. The non-linear equation governing the flow and heat transfer are solved for the velocity and temperature profile by employing the regular perturbation technique as well as homotopy perturbation method and the results are presented graphically. The effect of magnetic parameter and Brinkman number are analyzed for velocity and temperature profile. It is noticed that increase in magnetic parameter reduced the velocity of the fluid and increases the temperature profile. Also, increase in Brinkman number increases the temperature profile.     Similarity Measure Development for Case-Based Reasoning- A Data-driven Approach

    In this paper, we demonstrate a data-driven methodology for modelling the local similarity measures of various attributes in a dataset. We analyse the spread in the numerical attributes and estimate their distribution using polynomial function to showcase an approach for deriving strong initial value ranges of numerical attributes and use a non-overlapping distribution for categorical attributes such that the entire similarity range [0,1] is utilized. We use an open source dataset for demonstrating modelling and development of the similarity measures and will present a case-based reasoning (CBR) system that can be used to search for the most relevant similar cases

    An application of a cocitation-analysis method to find further research possibilities on the area of scheduling problems

    In this article we will give firstly a classification scheme of scheduling problems and their solving methods. The main aspects under examination are the following: machine and secondary resources, constraints, objective functions, uncertainty, mathematical models and adapted solution methods. In a second part, based on this scheme, we will examine a corpus of 60 main articles (1015 citation links were recorded in total) in scheduling literature from 1977 to 2009. The main purpose is to discover the underlying themes within the literature and to examine how they have evolved. To identify documents likely to be closely related, we are going to use the cocitation-based method of Greene et al. (2008). Our aim is to build a base of articles in order to extract the much developed research themes and find the less examined ones as well, and then try to discuss the reasons of the poorly investigation of some areas

    This paper presents and approach for knowledge extraction for Case-Based Reasoning systems. The recent development of the WWW, especially the Web 2.0, shows that many successful applications are web based. Moreover, the Web 2.0 offers many experiences and our approach uses those experiences to fill the knowledge containers. We are especially focusing on vocabulary knowledge and are using forum posts to create domain-dependent taxonomies that can be directly used in Case-Based Reasoning systems. This paper introduces the applied knowledge extraction process based on the KDD process and explains its application on a web forum for travelers

    Case Adaptation with Qualitative Algebras

    This paper proposes an approach for the adaptation of spatial or temporal cases in a case-based reasoning system. Qualitative algebras are used as spatial and temporal knowledge representation languages. The intuition behind this adaptation approach is to apply a substitution and then repair potential inconsistencies, thanks to belief revision on qualitative algebras. A temporal example from the cooking domain is given. (The paper on which this extended abstract is based was the recipient of the best paper award of the 2012 International Conference on Case-Based Reasoning.
