International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Application 2004

    Get PDF
The International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications took place on October 11-14, 2004 in Shanghai, China. It was the fourth in a series of expanded Dublin Core conferences that included a conference, tutorials and workshops. Prior to the first in this series of conferences held in Tokyo in 2001, eight Dublin Core workshop series had been held in various North American and European countries starting in 1995. These workshops and conferences have provided a forum where researchers and practitioners can exchange new ideas and demonstrate the development of metadata standards and applications from practical aspects

Describing Scholarly Works with Dublin Core: A Functional Approach

    Get PDF
This article describes the development of the Scholarly Works Application Profile (SWAP)—a Dublin Core application profile for describing scholarly texts. This work provides an active illustration of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) “Singapore Framework” for Application Profiles, presented at the DCMI Conference in 2007, by incorporating the various elements of Application Profile building as defined by this framework—functional requirements, domain model, description set profile, usage guidelines, and data format. These elements build on the foundations laid down by the Dublin Core Abstract Model and utilize a preexisting domain model (FR-BR—Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) in order to support the representation of complex data describing multiple entities and their relationships. The challenges of engaging community acceptance and implementation will be covered, along with other related initiatives to support the growing corpus of scholarly resource types, such as data objects, geographic data, multimedia, and images whose structure and metadata requirements introduce the need for new application profiles. Finally, looking to other initiatives, the article will comment on how Dublin Core relates to the broader scholarly information world, where projects like Object Re-use and Exchange are attempting to better equip repositories to exchange resources

Metadaten nach dem Dublin Core Metadata Element Set in ausgewählten bibliothekarischen Projekten : Projektarbeit

    Get PDF

MPEG-7 Harmonization with Dublin Core: Current Status and Concerns

    Get PDF
This document presents the current status of the harmonization of MPEG-7 with Dublin Core. It provides mappings between both qualified and unqualified Dublin Core and MPEG-7 Descriptors (Ds) (in the context of their container Description Schemes (DSs)). This mapping also highlights a certain number of problems and concerns with the current MPEG-7 Multimedia DSs and Ds. Section 2 provides a brief overview of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative. Section 3 provides a mapping between unqualified Dublin Core and MPEG-7 Ds and DSs. Section 4 provides a mapping between qualified Dublin Core (as recommended by the DC Usage Committee) and MPEG-7 Ds and DSs. Section 5 lists the concerns and issues with the MDS which have been raised as a result of performing these mappings

Dublin Core Metadata Harvested Through OAI-PMH

    Get PDF
The introduction in 2001 of the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) increased interest in and awareness of metadata quality issues relevant to digital library interoperability and the use of harvested metadata to build "union catalogs" of digital information resources. Practitioners have offered wide-ranging advice to metadata authors and have suggested metrics useful for measuring the quality of shareable metadata. Is there evidence of changes in metadata practice in response to such advice and/or as a result of an increased awareness of the importance of metadata interoperability? This paper looks at metadata records created over a six-year period that have been harvested by the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, and reports on quantitative and qualitative analyses of changes observed over time in shareable metadata quality.IMLS National Leadership Grant LG-02-02-0281published or submitted for publicationis peer reviewe

- The most recent conference of Dublin Core and Metadata Applications (DC-2007) was held in August 2007 in Singapore. The main developments in metadata, especially the Dublin Core standards, are discussed, as well as the “application profiles” concept in the interoperability of digital information service

Metadata Provenance: Dublin Core on the Next Level

    Get PDF
With this poster, we want to present the current state of the DCMI Metadata Provenance Task Group, which will wrap up its work at the time of DC-2011. The motivation for a Dublin Core extension for metadata provenance is twofold: Firstly, we want to represent existing metadata provenance information in a simple and unified way that is well suited as an application of Dublin Core. Secondly, we want to enable the provision of provenance information for Dublin Core metadata in a Dublin Core compatible way

Pemanfaatan Dublin Core Metadata Term Dalam Pengembangan Perpustakaan Digital Berbasis Semantik

    Get PDF
