Rogue waves in a two-component Manakov system with variable coefficients and an external potential
We construct rogue waves (RWs) in a coupled two-mode system with the
self-focusing nonlinearity of the Manakov type (equal SPM and XPM
coefficients), spatially modulated coefficients, and a specially designed
external potential. The system may be realized in nonlinear optics and
Bose-Einstein condensates. By means of a similarity transformation, we
establish a connection between solutions of the coupled Manakov system with
spatially-variable coefficients and the basic Manakov model with constant
coefficients. Exact solutions in the form of two-component Peregrine and
dromion waves are obtained. The RW dynamics is analyzed for different choices
of parameters in the underlying parameter space. Different classes of RW
solutions are categorized by means of a naturally introduced control parameter
which takes integer values.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure
Light bullets in the spatiotemporal nonlinear Schrodinger equation with a variable negative diffraction coefficient
We report approximate analytical solutions to the (3+1)-dimensional spatiotemporal nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation, with the uniform self-focusing nonlinearity and a variable negative radial diffraction coefficient, in the form of three-dimensional solitons. The model may be realized in artificial optical media, such as left-handed materials and photonic crystals, with the anomalous sign of the group-velocity dispersion (GVD). The same setting may be realized through the interplay of the self-defocusing nonlinearity, normal GVD, and positive variable diffraction. The Hartree approximation is utilized to achieve a suitable separation of variables in the model. Then, an inverse procedure is introduced, with the aim to select a suitable profile of the modulated diffraction coefficient supporting desirable soliton solutions (such as dromions, single- and multilayer rings, and multisoliton clusters). The validity of the analytical approximation and stability of the solutions is tested by means of direct simulations
Exact solutions and excitations for the Davey-Stewartson equations with nonlinear and gain terms
We study the general (2+1)-dimensional Davey-Stewartson (DS) equations with
nonlinear and gain terms and acquire explicit solutions through variable
separation approach. In particular, we deduce some main novel excitations for
the DS equations, and further demonstrate different features of these
excitations. More importantly, the similar solutions and excitations can be
predicted to exist in other related revolution equations such as nonlinear
Schr\"odinger equation to explain the Bose-Einstein condensation.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure
Solitary wave fission and fusion in the (2+1)-dimensional generalized Broer–Kaup system
Via a special Painlevé–Bäcklund transformation and the linear superposition theorem, we derive the general variable separation solution of the (2 + 1)-dimensional generalized Broer–Kaup system. Based on the general variable separation solution and choosing some suitable variable separated functions, new types of V-shaped and A-shaped solitary wave fusion and Y-shaped solitary wave fission phenomena are reported
Integrability, rational solitons and symmetries for nonlinear systems in Biology and Materials Physics
[EN] Nonlinear systems emerge as an active research topic of growing interest during the last decades due to their versatility when it comes to describing physical phenomena. Such scenarios are typically modelled by nonlinear differential equations, whose mathematical structure has proved to be incredibly rich, but highly nontrivial to treat. In particular, a narrow but surprisingly special group of this kind stands out: the so-called integrable systems.
The present doctoral thesis focuses on the study of some of the extraordinary properties observed for integrable systems. The ultimate purpose of this dissertation lies in providing a unified theoretical framework that allows us to approach nonlinear differential equations that may potentially be considered as integrable. In particular, their integrability characterization is addressed by means of Painlevé analysis, in conjunction with the subsequent quest of the associated spectral problems and the identification of analytical solutions of solitonic nature. The singular manifold method together with auto-Bäckund and Darboux transformations play a critical role in this setting. In addition, a complementary methodology based on Lie symmetries and similarity reductions is proposed so as to analyze integrable systems by studying the symmetry properties of their associated spectral problems.
Taking the ubiquitous nonlinear Schrödinger equation as the starting point, we have investigated several integrable generalizations of this equation that possess copious applications in distinct scientific fields, such as Mathematical Physics, Material Sciences and Biology
