Diversity gain for DVB-H by using transmitter/receiver cyclic delay diversity
The objective of this paper is to investigate different diversity techniques for broadcast networks that will minimize the complexity and improve received SNR of broadcast systems.
Resultant digital broadcast networks would require fewer transmitter sites and thus be more cost-effective and have less environmental impact. The techniques can be applied to DVB-T,
DVB-H and DAB systems that use Orthogonal Frequency Division Multplexing (OFDM). These are key radio broadcast network technologies, which are expected to complement emerging technologies
such as WiMAX and future 4G networks for delivery
of broadband content. Transmitter and receiver diversity technologies can increase the frequency and time selectivity of the resulting channel transfer function at the receiver. Diversity exploits the statistical nature of fading due to multipath and reduces the likelihood of deep fading by providing a diversity of transmission signals. Multiple signals are transmitted in such
a way as to ensure that several signals reach the receiver each with uncorrelated fading. Transmit diversity is more practical than receive diversity due to the difficulty of locating two receive antennas far enough apart in a small mobile device. The schemes examined here comply with existing DVB standards and can be incorporated into existing systems without change. The diversity techniques introduced in this paper are applied to the DVB-H system. Bit error performance investigations were conducted by
simulation for different DVB-H and diversity parameters
Diversity techniques for blind channel equalization in mobile communications
A blind algorithm for channel distortion compensation is presented which can be employed in spatial or temporal diversity receivers. The proposed technique can be used in frequency selective and frequency flat fading mobile channels, using burst transmission schemes in the first case and OFDM modulation in the second one. The algorithm is base on a deterministic criteria and is suited for estimation when short sets of data are available.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Optimal Algorithms for Near-Hitless Network Restoration via Diversity Coding
Diversity coding is a network restoration technique which offers near-hitless
restoration, while other state-of-the art techniques are significantly slower.
Furthermore, the extra spare capacity requirement of diversity coding is
competitive with the others. Previously, we developed heuristic algorithms to
employ diversity coding structures in networks with arbitrary topology. This
paper presents two algorithms to solve the network design problems using
diversity coding in an optimal manner. The first technique pre-provisions
static traffic whereas the second technique carries out the dynamic
provisioning of the traffic on-demand. In both cases, diversity coding results
in smaller restoration time, simpler synchronization, and much reduced
signaling complexity than the existing techniques in the literature. A Mixed
Integer Programming (MIP) formulation and an algorithm based on Integer Linear
Programming (ILP) are developed for pre-provisioning and dynamic provisioning,
respectively. Simulation results indicate that diversity coding has
significantly higher restoration speed than Shared Path Protection (SPP) and
p-cycle techniques. It requires more extra capacity than the p-cycle technique
and SPP. However, the increase in the total capacity is negligible compared to
the increase in the restoration speed.Comment: An old version of this paper is submitted to IEEE Globecom 2012

Unitary Space Time Constellation Analysis: An Upper Bound for the Diversity
The diversity product and the diversity sum are two very important parameters
for a good-performing unitary space time constellation. A basic question is
what the maximal diversity product (or sum) is. In this paper we are going to
derive general upper bounds on the diversity sum and the diversity product for
unitary constellations of any dimension and any size using packing
techniques on the compact Lie group U(n).Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures, submitted to IEEE trans. inf
Diversity Combining for RF Energy Harvesting
RF energy harvesting (RFEH) is a promising technology for energy requirements
of wireless communication nodes. However, providing sufficient amount of energy
to ensure self-sufficient devices based on RFEH may be challenging. In this
paper, the use of diversity combining in RFEH systems is proposed to increase
the amount of harvested energy. The power consumption of diversity combining
process is also taken into account to analyze the net benefit of diversity
combining. Performances of RFEH systems are investigated for selection
combining (SC), equal gain combining (EGC), and maximal ratio combining (MRC)
techniques. Simulations are conducted to compare the numerical results of SC,
EGC, and MRC, and the results show that although the diversity combining
techniques can improve the energy harvesting performance, the power consumption
parameters have a critical importance while determining the suitable technique
Modulation Diversity for Spatial Modulation Using Complex Interleaved Orthogonal Design
In this paper, we propose modulation diversity techniques for Spatial
Modulation (SM) system using Complex Interleaved Orthogonal Design (CIOD) meant
for two transmit antennas. Specifically, we show that by using the CIOD for two
transmit antenna system, the standard SM scheme, where only one transmit
antenna is activated in any symbol duration, can achieve a transmit diversity
order of two. We show with our simulation results that the proposed schemes
offer transmit diversity order of two, and hence, give a better Symbol Error
Rate performance than the SM scheme with transmit diversity order of one.Comment: 7 page
