    Design of a Planar Eleven Antenna for Optimal MIMO Performance as a Wideband Micro Base-station Antenna

    A new low-profile planar Eleven antenna is designed for optimal MIMO performance as a wideband MIMO antenna for micro base-stations in future wireless communication systems. The design objective has been to optimize both the reflection coefficient at the input port of the antenna and the 1-bitstream and 2-bitstream MIMO efficiency of the antenna at the same time, in both the Rich Isotropic MultiPath (RIMP) and Random Line-of-Sight (Random-LOS) environments. The planar Eleven antenna can be operated in 2-, 4-, and 8-port modes with slight modifications. The optimization is performed using genetic algorithms. The effects of polarization deficiencies and antenna total embedded efficiency on the MIMO performance of the antenna are further studied. A prototype of the antenna has been fabricated and the design has been verified by measurements against the simulations.Comment: 7 pages, 15 figures, 15 reference

    Sum-Rate Analysis for High Altitude Platform (HAP) Drones with Tethered Balloon Relay

    High altitude platform (HAP) drones can provide broadband wireless connectivity to ground users in rural areas by establishing line-of-sight (LoS) links and exploiting effective beamforming techniques. However, at high altitudes, acquiring the channel state information (CSI) for HAPs, which is a key component to perform beamforming, is challenging. In this paper, by exploiting an interference alignment (IA) technique, a novel method for achieving the maximum sum-rate in HAP-based communications without CSI is proposed. In particular, to realize IA, a multiple-antenna tethered balloon is used as a relay between multiple HAP drones and ground stations (GSs). Here, a multiple-input multiple-output X network system is considered. The capacity of the considered M*N X network with a tethered balloon relay is derived in closed-form. Simulation results corroborate the theoretical findings and show that the proposed approach yields the maximum sum-rate in multiple HAPs-GSs communications in absence of CSI. The results also show the existence of an optimal balloon's altitude for which the sum-rate is maximized.Comment: Accepted in IEEE Communications Letter

    Vehicle to vehicle (V2V) wireless communications

    This work focuses on the vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication, its current challenges, future perspective and possible improvement.V2V communication is characterized by the dynamic environment, high mobility, nonpredective scenario, propagation effects, and also communicating antenna's positions. This peculiarity of V2V wireless communication makes channel modelling and the vehicular propagation quite challenging. In this work, firstly we studied the present context of V2V communication also known as Vehicular Ad-hoc Netwok (VANET) including ongoing researches and studies particularly related to Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC), specifically designed for automotive uses with corresponding set of protocols and standards. Secondly, we focused on communication models and improvement of these models to make them more suitable, reliable and efficient for the V2V environment. As specifies the standard, OFDM is used in V2V communication, Adaptable OFDM transceiver was designed. Some parameters as performance analytics are used to compare the improvement with the actual situation. For the enhancement of physical layer of V2V communication, this work is focused in the study of MIMO channel instead of SISO.
