    Cloud Computing in VANETs: Architecture, Taxonomy, and Challenges

    Cloud Computing in VANETs (CC-V) has been investigated into two major themes of research including Vehicular Cloud Computing (VCC) and Vehicle using Cloud (VuC). VCC is the realization of autonomous cloud among vehicles to share their abundant resources. VuC is the efficient usage of conventional cloud by on-road vehicles via a reliable Internet connection. Recently, number of advancements have been made to address the issues and challenges in VCC and VuC. This paper qualitatively reviews CC-V with the emphasis on layered architecture, network component, taxonomy, and future challenges. Specifically, a four-layered architecture for CC-V is proposed including perception, co-ordination, artificial intelligence and smart application layers. Three network component of CC-V namely, vehicle, connection and computation are explored with their cooperative roles. A taxonomy for CC-V is presented considering major themes of research in the area including design of architecture, data dissemination, security, and applications. Related literature on each theme are critically investigated with comparative assessment of recent advances. Finally, some open research challenges are identified as future issues. The challenges are the outcome of the critical and qualitative assessment of literature on CC-V

    abstract: With the increasing user demand for low latency, elastic provisioning of computing resources coupled with ubiquitous and on-demand access to real-time data, cloud computing has emerged as a popular computing paradigm to meet growing user demands. However, with the introduction and rising use of wear- able technology and evolving uses of smart-phones, the concept of Internet of Things (IoT) has become a prevailing notion in the currently growing technology industry. Cisco Inc. has projected a data creation of approximately 403 Zetabytes (ZB) by 2018. The combination of bringing benign devices and connecting them to the web has resulted in exploding service and data aggregation requirements, thus requiring a new and innovative computing platform. This platform should have the capability to provide robust real-time data analytics and resource provisioning to clients, such as IoT users, on-demand. Such a computation model would need to function at the edge-of-the-network, forming a bridge between the large cloud data centers and the distributed connected devices. This research expands on the notion of bringing computational power to the edge- of-the-network, and then integrating it with the cloud computing paradigm whilst providing services to diverse IoT-based applications. This expansion is achieved through the establishment of a new computing model that serves as a platform for IoT-based devices to communicate with services in real-time. We name this paradigm as Gateway-Oriented Reconfigurable Ecosystem (GORE) computing. Finally, this thesis proposes and discusses the development of a policy management framework for accommodating our proposed computational paradigm. The policy framework is designed to serve both the hosted applications and the GORE paradigm by enabling them to function more efficiently.     Power consumption prediction in cloud data center using machine learning

    The flourishing development of the cloud computing paradigm provides several services in the industrial business world. Power consumption by cloud data centers is one of the crucial issues for service providers in the domain of cloud computing. Pursuant to the rapid technology enhancements in cloud environments and data centers augmentations, power utilization in data centers is expected to grow unabated. A diverse set of numerous connected devices, engaged with the ubiquitous cloud, results in unprecedented power utilization by the data centers, accompanied by increased carbon footprints. Nearly a million physical machines (PM) are running all over the data centers, along with (5 – 6) million virtual machines (VM). In the next five years, the power needs of this domain are expected to spiral up to 5% of global power production. The virtual machine power consumption reduction impacts the diminishing of the PM’s power, however further changing in power consumption of data center year by year, to aid the cloud vendors using prediction methods. The sudden fluctuation in power utilization will cause power outage in the cloud data centers. This paper aims to forecast the VM power consumption with the help of regressive predictive analysis, one of the Machine Learning (ML) techniques. The potency of this approach to make better predictions of future value, using Multi-layer Perceptron (MLP) regressor which provides 91% of accuracy during the prediction process

    Collaborative Vehicular Edge Computing Networks: Architecture Design and Research Challenges

    The emergence of augmented reality (AR), autonomous driving and other new applications have greatly enriched the functionality of the vehicular networks. However, these applications usually require complex calculations and large amounts of storage, which puts tremendous pressure on traditional vehicular networks. Mobile edge computing (MEC) is proposed as a prospective technique to extend computing and storage resources to the edge of the network. Combined with MEC, the computing and storage capabilities of the vehicular network can be further enhanced. Therefore, in this paper, we explore the novel collaborative vehicular edge computing network (CVECN) architecture. We first review the work related to MEC and vehicular networks. Then we discuss the design principles of CVECN. Based on the principles, we present the detailed CVECN architecture, and introduce the corresponding functional modules, communication process, as well as the installation and deployment ideas. Furthermore, the promising technical challenges, including collaborative coalition formation, collaborative task offloading and mobility management, are presented. And some potential research issues for future research are highlighted. Finally, simulation results are verified that the proposed CVECN can significantly improve network performance

    Assessing and augmenting SCADA cyber security: a survey of techniques

    SCADA systems monitor and control critical infrastructures of national importance such as power generation and distribution, water supply, transportation networks, and manufacturing facilities. The pervasiveness, miniaturisations and declining costs of internet connectivity have transformed these systems from strictly isolated to highly interconnected networks. The connectivity provides immense benefits such as reliability, scalability and remote connectivity, but at the same time exposes an otherwise isolated and secure system, to global cyber security threats. This inevitable transformation to highly connected systems thus necessitates effective security safeguards to be in place as any compromise or downtime of SCADA systems can have severe economic, safety and security ramifications.     Intepretable Deep Gaussian Naive Bayes Algorithm (Idgnba) Based Task Offloading Framework for Edge-Cloud Computing

    When it comes to Internet of Things (IoT) applications and machine learning based computing, resource-restricted edge devices are inadequate due to the exponential growth of mobile information and the massive need for processing power. An edge offload, the migration of complex tasks from IoT devices to edge cloud servers, is a distributed computing paradigm that has the potential to overcome the IoT device resource limits, lessen the computational load, and increase the effectiveness with which activities are processed. However, due to the NP-hard nature of the optimum offloading decision-making issue, an efficient solution using traditional optimization techniques is difficult. Current deep learning algorithms still have a lot of problems, such as their slow pace of learning and limited ability to adapt to new environments. We provide a unique interpretable deep Gaussian naive Bayes technique (IDGNBA) for extremely fine offloading choices to address these issues. Through several simulation studies, we assess the efficacy of IDGNBA and find that it performs better in terms of offloading than traditional techniques. The model has strong mobility and can quickly adjust to a fresh MEC working atmosphere while taking offloading decisions in real-time
