    ABSTRAKSI: Keberhasilan dari telepon selular telah mendorong minat yang tinggi pada jaringan wireless. Pelanggan wireless sekarang mulai mengharapkan berbagai keunggulan dari kemampuan jaringan, seperti aplikasi multimedia, multicasting, dan QoS yang terjamin. Tetapi jaringan wireless mempunyai karakteristik keterbatasan spektrum, propagasi kanal, dan mobility node, yang semuanya menuju ke berbagai masalah untuk manajemen jaringan di sistem ini.Telah diketahui bahwa power control dapat meningkatkan pemanfaatan spektrum pada sistem selular. Bagaimanapun, kebanyakan algoritma distributed power control yang ada tidak dapat bekerja dengan baik apabila tanpa didukung mekanisme call admission control (CAC) yang efektif, karena mereka dapat menjadi divergen dan menurunkan panggilan yang ada ketika infeasible call diterima. Pada tugas akhir ini, berdasarkan parameter sistem yaitu diskriminan, akan dianalisa algoritma distributed CAC untuk sistem power control. Simulasi menghasilkan performansi dari algoritma.Berdasarkan hasil simulasi, skema CAC yang digunakan dapat menjamin QoS bagi tiap mobile station di sistem. Pada skema CAC ini, infeasible call segera ditolak, dan hanya mengakibatkan gangguan yang kecil pada panggilan yang ada, sementara itu feasible call akan diterima.Kata Kunci : ABSTRACT: The tremendous success of cellular phones has generated great interest in wireless networks. Wireless subscribers have now begun to expect many advanced networking capabilities, such as multimedia applications, multicasting, and guaranteed Quality of Service ( QoS ). However, the wireless network is characterized by scarce radio spectrum, an unreliable propagation channel (with shadowing, multipath fading, etc.), and node mobility, all of which lead to a number of interesting open problems for network management in these systems.It is well known that power control can help to improve spectrum utilization in cellular wireless sistem. However, many existing distributed power control algorithm do not work well without an effective call admission control (CAC) mechanism, because they could diverge and result in dropping existing calls when an infeasible call is admitted. In this work, based on a sistem parameter defined as the discriminant, we analyzed CAC algorithm for a power controlled sistem. Simulation results demonstrate the performance of the algorithms.Based on simulation result, CAC schemes can guaranteed Quality of Service for each mobile station in the systems. Under these CAC schemes, an infeasible call is rejected early, and incurs only a small disturbance to existing calls, while a feasible call is admitted.Keyword

    Energy efficiency in heterogeneous wireless access networks

    In this article, we bring forward the important aspect of energy savings in wireless access networks. We specifically focus on the energy saving opportunities in the recently evolving heterogeneous networks (HetNets), both Single- RAT and Multi-RAT. Issues such as sleep/wakeup cycles and interference management are discussed for co-channel Single-RAT HetNets. In addition to that, a simulation based study for LTE macro-femto HetNets is presented, indicating the need for dynamic energy efficient resource management schemes. Multi-RAT HetNets also come with challenges such as network integration, combined resource management and network selection. Along with a discussion on these challenges, we also investigate the performance of the conventional WLAN-first network selection mechanism in terms of energy efficiency (EE) and suggest that EE can be improved by the application of intelligent call admission control policies
