    B2DI a bayesian BDI agent model with causal belief updating based on MSBN

    In this paper, we introduce B2DI model that extends BDI model to perform Bayesian inference under uncertainty. For scalability and flexibility purposes, Multiply Sectioned Bayesian Network (MSBN) technology has been selected and adapted to BDI agent reasoning. A belief update mechanism has been defined for agents, whose belief models are connected by public shared beliefs, and the certainty of these beliefs is updated based on MSBN. The classical BDI agent architecture has been extended in order to manage uncertainty using Bayesian reasoning. The resulting extended model, so-called B2DI, proposes a new control loop. The proposed B2DI model has been evaluated in a network fault diagnosis scenario. The evaluation has compared this model with two previously developed agent models. The evaluation has been carried out with a real testbed diagnosis scenario using JADEX. As a result, the proposed model exhibits significant improvements in the cost and time required to carry out a reliable diagnosis

    Autonomic care platform for optimizing query performance

    Background: As the amount of information in electronic health care systems increases, data operations get more complicated and time-consuming. Intensive Care platforms require a timely processing of data retrievals to guarantee the continuous display of recent data of patients. Physicians and nurses rely on this data for their decision making. Manual optimization of query executions has become difficult to handle due to the increased amount of queries across multiple sources. Hence, a more automated management is necessary to increase the performance of database queries. The autonomic computing paradigm promises an approach in which the system adapts itself and acts as self-managing entity, thereby limiting human interventions and taking actions. Despite the usage of autonomic control loops in network and software systems, this approach has not been applied so far for health information systems. Methods: We extend the COSARA architecture, an infection surveillance and antibiotic management service platform for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with self-managed components to increase the performance of data retrievals. We used real-life ICU COSARA queries to analyse slow performance and measure the impact of optimizations. Each day more than 2 million COSARA queries are executed. Three control loops, which monitor the executions and take action, have been proposed: reactive, deliberative and reflective control loops. We focus on improvements of the execution time of microbiology queries directly related to the visual displays of patients' data on the bedside screens. Results: The results show that autonomic control loops are beneficial for the optimizations in the data executions in the ICU. The application of reactive control loop results in a reduction of 8.61% of the average execution time of microbiology results. The combined application of the reactive and deliberative control loop results in an average query time reduction of 10.92% and the combination of reactive, deliberative and reflective control loops provides a reduction of 13.04%. Conclusions: We found that by controlled reduction of queries' executions the performance for the end-user can be improved. The implementation of autonomic control loops in an existing health platform, COSARA, has a positive effect on the timely data visualization for the physician and nurse

They deal with imprecision and good tolerance of uncertainty. Components of soft computing are needed for developing automated expert systems. These systems reduce human interventions so as to complete a task essentially. Automated expert systems are developed in order to perform difficult jobs. The systems have been trained and tested using soft computing techniques. These systems are required in all kinds of fields and are especially very useful in medical diagnosis. This chapter describes the components of soft computing and review of some analyses regarding EEG signal classification. From those analyses, this chapter concludes that a number of features extracted are very important and relevant features for classifier can give better accuracy of classification. The classifier with a suitable learning method can perform well for automated epileptic seizure detection systems. Further, the decomposition of EEG signal at level 4 is sufficient for seizure detection

    A framework and methods for on-board network level fault diagnostics in automobiles

    A significant number of electronic control units (ECUs) are nowadays networked in automotive vehicles to help achieve advanced vehicle control and eliminate bulky electrical wiring. This, however, inevitably leads to increased complexity in vehicle fault diagnostics. Traditional off-board fault diagnostics and repair at service centres, by using only diagnostic trouble codes logged by conventional onboard diagnostics, can become unwieldy especially when dealing with intermittent faults in complex networked electronic systems. This can result in inaccurate and time consuming diagnostics due to lack of real-time fault information of the interaction among ECUs in the network-wide perspective. This thesis proposes a new framework for on-board knowledge-based diagnostics focusing on network level faults, and presents an implementation of a real-time in-vehicle network diagnostic system, using case-based reasoning. A newly developed fault detection technique and the results from several practical experiments with the diagnostic system using a network simulation tool, a hardware- in-the- loop simulator, a disturbance simulator, simulated ECUs and real ECUs networked on a test rig are also presented. The results show that the new vehicle diagnostics scheme, based on the proposed new framework, can provide more real-time network level diagnostic data, and more detailed and self-explanatory diagnostic outcomes. This new system can provide increased diagnostic capability when compared with conventional diagnostic methods in terms of detecting message communication faults. In particular, the underlying incipient network problems that are ignored by the conventional on-board diagnostics are picked up for thorough fault diagnostics and prognostics which can be carried out by a whole-vehicle fault management system, contributing to the further development of intelligent and fault-tolerant vehicles

    NOVEL METHODS FOR PERMANENT MAGNET DEMAGNETIZATION DETECTION IN PERMANENT MAGNET SYNCHRONOUS MACHINES

    Monitoring and detecting PM flux linkage is important to maintain a stable permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) operation. The key problems that need to be solved at this stage are to: 1) establish a demagnetization magnetic flux model that takes into account the influence of various nonlinear and complex factors to reveal the demagnetization mechanism; 2) explore the relationship between different factors and demagnetizing magnetic field, to detect the demagnetization in the early stage; and 3) propose post-demagnetization measures. This thesis investigates permanent magnet (PM) demagnetization detection for PMSM machines to achieve high-performance and reliable machine drive for practical industrial and consumer applications. In this thesis, theoretical analysis, numerical calculation as well as experimental investigations are carried out to systematically study the demagnetization detection mechanism and post-demagnetization measures for permanent magnet synchronous motors. At first a flux based acoustic noise model is proposed to analyze online PM demagnetization detection by using a back propagation neural network (BPNN) with acoustic noise data. In this method, the PM demagnetization is detected by means of comparing the measured acoustic signal of PMSM with an acoustic signal library of seven acoustical indicators. Then torque ripple is chosen for online PM demagnetization diagnosis by using continuous wavelet transforms (CWT) and Grey System Theory (GST). This model is able to reveal the relationship between torque variation and PM electromagnetic interferences. After demagnetization being detected, a current regulation strategy is proposed to minimize the torque ripples induced by PM demagnetization. Next, in order to compare the demagnetization detection accuracy, different data mining techniques, Vold-Kalman filtering order tracking (VKF-OT) and dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) based detection approach is applied to real-time PM flux monitoring through torque ripple again. VKF-OT is introduced to track the order of torque ripple of PMSM running in transient state. Lastly, the combination of acoustic noise and torque is investigated for demagnetization detection by using multi-sensor information fusion to improve the system redundancy and accuracy. Bayesian network based multi-sensor information fusion is then proposed to detect the demagnetization ratio from the extracted features. During the analysis of demagnetization detection methods, the proposed PM detection approaches both form torque ripple and acoustic noise are extensively evaluated on a laboratory PM machine drive system under different speeds, load conditions, and temperatures
