Discrete maximal regularity of time-stepping schemes for fractional evolution equations

In this work, we establish the maximal $\ell^p$-regularity for several time stepping schemes for a fractional evolution model, which involves a fractional derivative of order $\alpha\in(0,2)$, $\alpha\neq 1$, in time. These schemes include convolution quadratures generated by backward Euler method and second-order backward difference formula, the L1 scheme, explicit Euler method and a fractional variant of the Crank-Nicolson method. The main tools for the analysis include operator-valued Fourier multiplier theorem due to Weis [48] and its discrete analogue due to Blunck [10]. These results generalize the corresponding results for parabolic problems

Challenges in Optimal Control of Nonlinear PDE-Systems

The workshop focussed on various aspects of optimal control problems for systems of nonlinear partial differential equations. In particular, discussions around keynote presentations in the areas of optimal control of nonlinear/non-smooth systems, optimal control of systems involving nonlocal operators, shape and topology optimization, feedback control and stabilization, sparse control, and associated numerical analysis as well as design and analysis of solution algorithms were promoted. Moreover, also aspects of control of fluid structure interaction problems as well as problems arising in the optimal control of quantum systems were considered

The Mathematical Analysis of a Micro Scale Model for Lithium-Ion Batteries

In this dissertation we consider a quasi-linear elliptic-parabolic system of pdes arising in the modeling of Li-ion batteries. We establish local existence of weak solutions by exploiting the properties of the elliptic subproblem. In three or less spatial dimensions we obtain uniqueness. As auxillary results we discuss two finite element discretizations of the elliptic subproblem and present some numerical results
