We continue Mizar formalization of general topology according to the book [11] by Engelking. In the article, we present the final theorem of Section 4.1. Namely, the paper includes the formalization of theorems on the correspondence between the cardinalities of the basis and of some open subcover, and a discreet (closed) subspaces, and the weight of that metrizable topological space. We also define Lindel¨of spaces and state the above theorem in this special case. We also introduce the concept of separation among two subsets (see [12]).Institute of Computer Science, University of Białystok, PolandGrzegorz Bancerek. Cardinal arithmetics. Finite Product of Semiring of Sets

AbstractWe formalize that the image of a semiring of sets [17] by an injective function is a semiring of sets.We offer a non-trivial example of a semiring of sets in a topological space [21]. Finally, we show that the finite product of a semiring of sets is also a semiring of sets [21] and that the finite product of a classical semiring of sets [8] is a classical semiring of sets. In this case, we use here the notation from the book of Aliprantis and Border [1].Rue de la Brasserie 5 7100 La Louvière, BelgiumCharalambos D. Aliprantis and Kim C. Border. Combinatorics and Geometry of Transportation Polytopes: An Update

A transportation polytope consists of all multidimensional arrays or tables of non-negative real numbers that satisfy certain sum conditions on subsets of the entries. They arise naturally in optimization and statistics, and also have interest for discrete mathematics because permutation matrices, latin squares, and magic squares appear naturally as lattice points of these polytopes. In this paper we survey advances on the understanding of the combinatorics and geometry of these polyhedra and include some recent unpublished results on the diameter of graphs of these polytopes. In particular, this is a thirty-year update on the status of a list of open questions last visited in the 1984 book by Yemelichev, Kovalev and Kravtsov and the 1986 survey paper of Vlach.Comment: 35 pages, 13 figure

Parameterized complexity of machine scheduling: 15 open problems

Machine scheduling problems are a long-time key domain of algorithms and complexity research. A novel approach to machine scheduling problems are fixed-parameter algorithms. To stimulate this thriving research direction, we propose 15 open questions in this area whose resolution we expect to lead to the discovery of new approaches and techniques both in scheduling and parameterized complexity theory.Comment: Version accepted to Computers & Operations Researc

    Computing Invariants of Simplicial Manifolds

This is a survey of known algorithms in algebraic topology with a focus on finite simplicial complexes and, in particular, simplicial manifolds. Wherever possible an elementary approach is chosen. This way the text may also serve as a condensed but very basic introduction to the algebraic topology of simplicial manifolds. This text will appear as a chapter in the forthcoming book "Triangulated Manifolds with Few Vertices" by Frank H. Lutz.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figure
