Accelerated Particle Swarm Optimization and Support Vector Machine for Business Optimization and Applications

Business optimization is becoming increasingly important because all business activities aim to maximize the profit and performance of products and services, under limited resources and appropriate constraints. Recent developments in support vector machine and metaheuristics show many advantages of these techniques. In particular, particle swarm optimization is now widely used in solving tough optimization problems. In this paper, we use a combination of a recently developed Accelerated PSO and a nonlinear support vector machine to form a framework for solving business optimization problems. We first apply the proposed APSO-SVM to production optimization, and then use it for income prediction and project scheduling. We also carry out some parametric studies and discuss the advantages of the proposed metaheuristic SVM.Comment: 12 page

Cuckoo search has become a popular and powerful metaheuristic algorithm for global optimization. In business optimization and applications, many studies have focused on support vector machine and neural networks. In this paper, we use cuckoo search to carry out optimization tasks and compare the performance of cuckoo search with support vector machine. By testing benchmarks such as project scheduling and bankruptcy predictions, we conclude that cuckoo search can perform better than support vector machine

In recent years, due to the unnecessary wastage of electrical energy in residential buildings, the requirement of energy optimization and user comfort has gained vital importance. In the literature, various techniques have been proposed addressing the energy optimization problem. The goal of each technique was to maintain a balance between user comfort and energy requirements such that the user can achieve the desired comfort level with the minimum amount of energy consumption. Researchers have addressed the issue with the help of different optimization algorithms and variations in the parameters to reduce energy consumption. To the best of our knowledge, this problem is not solved yet due to its challenging nature. The gap in the literature is due to the advancements in the technology and drawbacks of the optimization algorithms and the introduction of different new optimization algorithms. Further, many newly proposed optimization algorithms which have produced better accuracy on the benchmark instances but have not been applied yet for the optimization of energy consumption in smart homes. In this paper, we have carried out a detailed literature review of the techniques used for the optimization of energy consumption and scheduling in smart homes. The detailed discussion has been carried out on different factors contributing towards thermal comfort, visual comfort, and air quality comfort. We have also reviewed the fog and edge computing techniques used in smart homes

The symbiotic organisms search algorithm is a very promising recent metaheuristic algorithm. It has received a plethora of attention from all areas of numerical optimization research, as well as engineering design practices. it has since undergone several modifications, either in the form of hybridization or as some other improved variants of the original algorithm. However, despite all the remarkable achievements and rapidly expanding body of literature regarding the symbiotic organisms search algorithm within its short appearance in the field of swarm intelligence optimization techniques, there has been no collective and comprehensive study on the success of the various implementations of this algorithm. As a way forward, this paper provides an overview of the research conducted on symbiotic organisms search algorithms from inception to the time of writing, in the form of details of various application scenarios with variants and hybrid implementations, and suggestions for future research directions

Energy-aware task scheduling on heterogeneous computing systems with time constraint

As a technique to help achieve high performance in parallel and distributed heterogeneous computing systems, task scheduling has attracted considerable interest. In this paper, we propose an effective Cuckoo Search algorithm based on Gaussian random walk and Adaptive discovery probability which combined with a cost-to-time ratio Modification strategy (GACSM), to address task scheduling on heterogeneous multiprocessor systems using Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS). First, to overcome the shortcomings of poor performance in exploitation of the cuckoo search algorithm, we use chaos variables to initialize populations to maintain the population diversity, a Gaussian random walk strategy to balance the exploration and exploitation capabilities of the algorithm, and an adaptive discovery probability strategy to improve population diversity. Then, we apply the improved Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithm to assign tasks to resources, and a widely used downward rank heuristic strategy to find the corresponding scheduling sequence. Finally, we apply a cost-to-time ratio improvement strategy to further improve the performance of the improved CS algorithm. Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of our method. The results validate our approach and show its superiority in comparison with the state-of-the-art methods.Zexi Deng, Zihan Yan, Huimin Huang, Hong Shen ... et al
