Data mining is the process of discovering and examining data from diverse viewpoint, using automatic or semiautomatic techniques to remove knowledge or useful information and discover correlations or meaningful patterns and rules from large databases. One of the most vital characteristic missed by the traditional data mining systems is their capability to record and process time-varying aspects of the real world databases. . Temporal data mining, which mines or discovers knowledge and patterns from temporal databases, is an extension of data mining with capability to include time attribute analysis. The pattern discovery task of temporal data mining discovers all patterns of interest from a large dataset. This paper presents an overview of temporal data mining and focus on pattern discovery using temporal association rules

Discovering hidden knowledge from hug amount of data in form of association rules mining havebecome very popular in scaling field of data mining. One several algorithms have been alsodeveloped for mining association rules. All those algorithms can be effectively applied on all asdataset where data has not any time granularity means non-temporal dataset. The quality of trainingdata for knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) and data mining depends upon so many factors, but also handling missing values is considered to be a crucial factor in whole data quality. Today inreal world datasets contains missing values due to human, in operational error, hardwaremalfunctioning and many other factors

Data Mining discovers patterns and trends by extracting knowledge from large databases. Soft Computing techniques such as fuzzy logic, neural networks, genetic algorithms, rough sets, etc. aims to reveal the tolerance for imprecision and uncertainty for achieving tractability, robustness and low-cost solutions. Fuzzy Logic and Rough sets are suitable for handling different types of uncertainty. Neural networks provide good learning and generalization. Genetic algorithms provide efficient search algorithms for selecting a model, from mixed media data. Data mining refers to information extraction while soft computing is used for information processing. For effective knowledge discovery from large databases, both Soft Computing and Data Mining can be merged. Association rule mining (ARM) and Itemset mining focus on finding most frequent item sets and corresponding association rules, extracting rare itemsets including temporal and fuzzy concepts in discovered patterns. This survey paper explores the usage of soft computing approaches in itemset utility mining

Monitoring land use changes using geo-information : possibilities, methods and adapted techniques

    Get PDF
Monitoring land use with geographical databases is widely used in decision-making. This report presents the possibilities, methods and adapted techniques using geo-information in monitoring land use changes. The municipality of Soest was chosen as study area and three national land use databases, viz. Top10Vector, CBS land use statistics and LGN, were used. The restrictions of geo-information for monitoring land use changes are indicated. New methods and adapted techniques improve the monitoring result considerably. Providers of geo-information, however, should coordinate on update frequencies, semantic content and spatial resolution to allow better possibilities of monitoring land use by combining data sets
