Pouvoir et ProgrĂšs
Civilization is, according to Elias, a very precarious equilibrium which is constantly threatened by an upsurge of barbarity. But fortunately the story of the civilizing process, as Elias tells it, results nevertheless in a progress, or even in the Progress of Civilization â as Elias does not spend many words on the plurality of cultures. This Great Story of Civilization is carried by the struggle for power, by the competition of individuals and groups striving to get or to preserve a dominant position â either real or symbolic. I will not actually focus here on the seemingly Nietzschean origin of this way of thinking (although I consider it all the more plausible since power is for Elias, as for Nietzsche, something relative) but rather on two other weighty implications. On the one hand, the paradigm of power leads to the primacy of political history and to a lack of interest for the economic factors. No wonder that Elias has been re-discovered after the retreat of Marxism on the intellectual scene. But the primacy of political history also inscribes Elias in a German tradition of thinking which has its origin in the historicism of the 19th century. This may explain why Elias subscribes to the âSonderwegâ thesis as a valid explanation for the genesis of National Socialism. On the other hand, the idea that the state of war of all against all engenders civilization as far as it is controlled by the state refers explicitly to Hobbes (who is quoted in the Studien ĂŒber die Deutschen, p. 149) and is typical of the specific kind of âliberalismâ which characterizes especially the German emigrants in the Anglo-Saxon world (as for instance Leo Strauss) and which is part of the ideology of the American neocons.
Discusses the possible contribution of psychoanalytic theory to a revival of psychology. It is argued that psychoanalysis contains potentials whose liberation could contribute to overcoming the scientific restrictions laid down by nomological psychology. This is clarified by contrasting the basic theoretical assumptions of the two schools of psychology with a list of theses
(Autorenreferat)"The attitude to punishment in Germany has changed progressively since Michel Foucault described the development from corporal punishment to imprisonment. Criminal law is not as neutral as it appears: Diverse social interests lead to rapid changes in jurisdiction. The idea of preventing new crimes by incarcerating offenders is getting to be the central idea. The principle of guilt is loosing it's central importance." (author's abstract

The goods market can be seen as a special case of a more general social situation. This succeeds as soon as the market is no longer recognized as a dispute between competitors, but as a dispute between demand and counter-demand on the basis of opposing valuations. The more general situation to be analyzed here is the ongoing process of antagonistic exchange of social sanctions, in which individuals (as well as groups) encounter one another

Die Textur des GlĂŒcklichseins â eine Metaphernanalyse
This bachelor thesis examines personal experience of happiness. To explore the par-ticipants conceptualization of the subject, their personal metaphors are analysed. Emotion psychology and Conceptual Metaphor Theory (Lakoff & Johnson, 2008) are the theoretical background employed in this qualitative study. Narrative biographic interviews are used to collect the data later evaluated by Systematic Metaphor Analy-sis (Schmitt, 2017). The derived metaphorical concepts are then interpreted and lastly discussed in comparison with previous studies on the metaphors of happiness by oth-er authors. The findings of this study show similarities in the metaphorical concepts especially regarding the happiness metaphors defined by Lakoff and Johnson (2008). In addition, several unique metaphorical concepts were discovered that have not been represented in any of the comparative studies.:1 Einleitung 6
