A Novel Prediction Method about Single Components of Analog Circuits Based on Complex Field Modeling

Few researches pay attention to prediction about analog circuits. The few methods lack the correlation with circuit analysis during extracting and calculating features so that FI (fault indicator) calculation often lack rationality, thus affecting prognostic performance. To solve the above problem, this paper proposes a novel prediction method about single components of analog circuits based on complex field modeling. Aiming at the feature that faults of single components hold the largest number in analog circuits, the method starts with circuit structure, analyzes transfer function of circuits, and implements complex field modeling. Then, by an established parameter scanning model related to complex field, it analyzes the relationship between parameter variation and degeneration of single components in the model in order to obtain a more reasonable FI feature set via calculation. According to the obtained FI feature set, it establishes a novel model about degeneration trend of analog circuits’ single components. At last, it uses particle filter (PF) to update parameters for the model and predicts remaining useful performance (RUP) of analog circuits’ single components. Since calculation about the FI feature set is more reasonable, accuracy of prediction is improved to some extent. Finally, the foregoing conclusions are verified by experiments

This paper proposes a novel method to estimate the influence of hard-fault in linear-analogue circuit system based on the measurement of voltage phasor with assistant branch introduced. Furthermore, a new fault diagnosis strategy based on the voltage phasor modeling is established, and the tolerance influence on the corresponding voltage measurement is also discussed. The actual analogue circuit test shows us that the proposed method is effective and reliable to locate the accurate fault signature in voltage measurement for the fault diagnosis. As a matter of fact, it includes both the amplitude and phase information in a complex value form when the linear-analogue circuit is under the AC test. Besides, it can be also applied to ambiguous groups and the sensitive test-frequencies determination in the process of fault diagnosis, while the effectiveness of multifrequencies test has also been testified through test-frequencies sweeping investigation and the maximum error evaluation of fault component value in the second circuit example

Fault Diagnosis and Failure Prognostics of Lithium-ion Battery based on Least Squares Support Vector Machine and Memory Particle Filter Framework

123456A novel data driven approach is developed for fault diagnosis and remaining useful life (RUL) prognostics for lithium-ion batteries using Least Square Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM) and Memory-Particle Filter (M-PF). Unlike traditional data-driven models for capacity fault diagnosis and failure prognosis, which require multidimensional physical characteristics, the proposed algorithm uses only two variables: Energy Efficiency (EE), and Work Temperature. The aim of this novel framework is to improve the accuracy of incipient and abrupt faults diagnosis and failure prognosis. First, the LSSVM is used to generate residual signal based on capacity fade trends of the Li-ion batteries. Second, adaptive threshold model is developed based on several factors including input, output model error, disturbance, and drift parameter. The adaptive threshold is used to tackle the shortcoming of a fixed threshold. Third, the M-PF is proposed as the new method for failure prognostic to determine Remaining Useful Life (RUL). The M-PF is based on the assumption of the availability of real-time observation and historical data, where the historical failure data can be used instead of the physical failure model within the particle filter. The feasibility of the framework is validated using Li-ion battery prognostic data obtained from the National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) Ames Prognostic Center of Excellence (PCoE). The experimental results show the following: (1) fewer data dimensions for the input data are required compared to traditional empirical models; (2) the proposed diagnostic approach provides an effective way of diagnosing Li-ion battery fault; (3) the proposed prognostic approach can predict the RUL of Li-ion batteries with small error, and has high prediction accuracy; and, (4) the proposed prognostic approach shows that historical failure data can be used instead of a physical failure model in the particle filter

Artificial neural networks and their applications to intelligent fault diagnosis of power transmission lines

    Get PDF
Over the past thirty years, the idea of computing based on models inspired by human brains and biological neural networks emerged. Artificial neural networks play an important role in the field of machine learning and hold the key to the success of performing many intelligent tasks by machines. They are used in various applications such as pattern recognition, data classification, stock market prediction, aerospace, weather forecasting, control systems, intelligent automation, robotics, and healthcare. Their architectures generally consist of an input layer, multiple hidden layers, and one output layer. They can be implemented on software or hardware. Nowadays, various structures with various names exist for artificial neural networks, each of which has its own particular applications. Those used types in this study include feedforward neural networks, convolutional neural networks, and general regression neural networks. Increasing the number of layers in artificial neural networks as needed for large datasets, implies increased computational expenses. Therefore, besides these basic structures in deep learning, some advanced techniques are proposed to overcome the drawbacks of original structures in deep learning such as transfer learning, federated learning, and reinforcement learning. Furthermore, implementing artificial neural networks in hardware gives scientists and engineers the chance to perform high-dimensional and big data-related tasks because it removes the constraints of memory access time defined as the von Neuman bottleneck. Accordingly, analog and digital circuits are used for artificial neural network implementations without using general-purpose CPUs. In this study, the problem of fault detection, identification, and location estimation of transmission lines is studied and various deep learning approaches are implemented and designed as solutions. This research work focuses on the transmission lines’ datasets, their faults, and the importance of identification, detection, and location estimation of them. It also includes a comprehensive review of the previous studies to perform these three tasks. The application of various artificial neural networks such as feedforward neural networks, convolutional neural networks, and general regression neural networks for identification, detection, and location estimation of transmission line datasets are also discussed in this study. Some advanced methods based on artificial neural networks are taken into account in this thesis such as the transfer learning technique. These methodologies are designed and applied on transmission line datasets to enable the scientist and engineers with using fewer data points for the training purpose and wasting less time on the training step. This work also proposes a transfer learning-based technique for distinguishing faulty and non-faulty insulators in transmission line images. Besides, an effective design for an activation function of the artificial neural networks is proposed in this thesis. Using hyperbolic tangent as an activation function in artificial neural networks has several benefits including inclusiveness and high accuracy

Advanced Fault Detection Methods for Permanent Magnets Synchronous Machines

    Get PDF
The trend in recent years of transport electrification has significantly increased the demand for reliability and availability of electric drives, particularly in those employing Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSM), often selected due to their high efficiency and energy density. Fault detection has been identified as one of the key aspects to cover such demand. Stator winding faults are known to be the second most common type of fault, after bearing fault. An extensive literature review has shown that, although a number of methods has been proposed to address this type of fault, no tool of general application, capable of dealing effectively with fault detection under transient conditions unrelated to the fault, has been proposed up to date. This thesis has made contributions to modelling, real-time emulation and stator winding fault detection of PMSM. Fault detection has been carried out through model-based and signal-based methods with a specific aim at operation during transient conditions. Furthermore, fault classification methods already available have been implemented with features computed by proposed signal-based fault detection methods. The main conclusion drawn from this thesis is that model-based fault detection methods, particularly those based on residuals, appear to be better suited for transient conditions analysis, as opposed to signal-based fault detection methods. However, it is expected that a combination of the two (model/signal) would yield the best results
