PVT-Robust CMOS Programmable Chaotic Oscillator: Synchronization of Two 7-Scroll Attractors
Designing chaotic oscillators using complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuit technology for generating multi-scroll attractors has been a challenge. That way, we introduce a current-mode piecewise-linear (PWL) function based on CMOS cells that allow programmable generation of 2â7-scroll chaotic attractors. The mathematical model of the chaotic oscillator designed herein has four coefficients and a PWL function, which can be varied to provide a high value of the maximum Lyapunov exponent. The coefficients are implemented electronically by designing operational transconductance amplifiers that allow programmability of their transconductances. Design simulations of the chaotic oscillator are provided for the 0.35ÎŒ m CMOS technology. Post-layout and processâvoltageâtemperature (PVT) variation simulations demonstrate robustness of the multi-scroll chaotic attractors. Finally, we highlight the synchronization of two seven-scroll attractors in a masterâslave topology by generalized Hamiltonian forms and observer approach. Simulation results show that the synchronized CMOS chaotic oscillators are robust to PVT variations and are suitable for chaotic secure communication applications.Universidad AutĂłnoma de Tlaxcala CACyPI-UATx-2017Program to Strengthen Quality in Educational Institutions C/PFCE-2016-29MSU0013Y-07-23National Council for Science and Technology 237991 22284
Principles of Neuromorphic Photonics
In an age overrun with information, the ability to process reams of data has
become crucial. The demand for data will continue to grow as smart gadgets
multiply and become increasingly integrated into our daily lives.
Next-generation industries in artificial intelligence services and
high-performance computing are so far supported by microelectronic platforms.
These data-intensive enterprises rely on continual improvements in hardware.
Their prospects are running up against a stark reality: conventional
one-size-fits-all solutions offered by digital electronics can no longer
satisfy this need, as Moore's law (exponential hardware scaling),
interconnection density, and the von Neumann architecture reach their limits.
With its superior speed and reconfigurability, analog photonics can provide
some relief to these problems; however, complex applications of analog
photonics have remained largely unexplored due to the absence of a robust
photonic integration industry. Recently, the landscape for
commercially-manufacturable photonic chips has been changing rapidly and now
promises to achieve economies of scale previously enjoyed solely by
microelectronics.
The scientific community has set out to build bridges between the domains of
photonic device physics and neural networks, giving rise to the field of
\emph{neuromorphic photonics}. This article reviews the recent progress in
integrated neuromorphic photonics. We provide an overview of neuromorphic
computing, discuss the associated technology (microelectronic and photonic)
platforms and compare their metric performance. We discuss photonic neural
network approaches and challenges for integrated neuromorphic photonic
processors while providing an in-depth description of photonic neurons and a
candidate interconnection architecture. We conclude with a future outlook of
neuro-inspired photonic processing.Comment: 28 pages, 19 figure
A liénard oscillator resonant tunnelling diode-laser diode hybrid integrated circuit: model and experiment
We report on a hybrid optoelectronic integrated circuit based on a resonant tunnelling diode driving an optical communications laser diode. This circuit can act as a voltage controlled oscillator with optical and electrical outputs. We show that the oscillator operation can be described by Liénard's equation, a second order nonlinear differential equation, which is a generalization of the Van der Pol equation. This treatment gives considerable insight into the potential of a monolithic version of the circuit for optical communication functions including clock recovery and chaotic source applications
Differential Equations of Ideal Memristors
Ideal memristor is a resistor with a memory, which adds dynamics to its behavior. The most usual characteristics describing this dynamics are the constitutive relation (i.e. the relation between flux and charge), or Parameter-vs-state- map (PSM), mostly represented by the memristance-to-charge dependence. One of the so far unheeded tools for memristor description is its differential equation (DEM), composed exclusively of instantaneous values of voltage, current, and their derivatives. The article derives a general form of DEM that holds for any ideal memristor and shows that it is always a nonlinear equation of the first order; the PSM forms are found for memristors which are governed by DEMs of the Bernoulli and the Riccati types; a classification of memristors according to the type of their dynamics with respect to voltage and current is carried out
Collective Phase Chaos in the Dynamics of Interacting Oscillator Ensembles
We study chaotic behavior of order parameters in two coupled ensembles of
self-sustained oscillators. Coupling within each of these ensembles is switched
on and off alternately, while the mutual interaction between these two
subsystems is arranged through quadratic nonlinear coupling. We show
numerically that in the course of alternating Kuramoto transitions to synchrony
and back to asynchrony, the exchange of excitations between two subpopulations
proceeds in such a way that their collective phases are governed by an
expanding circle map similar to the Bernoulli map. We perform the Lyapunov
analysis of the dynamics and discuss finite-size effects.Comment: 19 page
Improved Model of TiO2 Memristor
Analysis of Pickettâs model of the HP TiO2 memristor presented in this paper reveals an ambiguity of its port equation, which may cause non-convergence, numerical errors, and non-physical solutions during time-domain simulation. As there is no easy fix of the original model a new behavioral approximation of static I-V characteristics has been proposed. The approximation matches well the original model and is unambiguous
