Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) is a multiple antenna technology used extensively in wireless communication systems. With the ever increasing demand in high data rates, MIMO system is the necessity of wireless communication. In MIMO wireless communication system, where the multiple antennas are placed on base station and mobile station, the major problem is the constant power of base station, which has to be allocated to data streams optimally. This problem is referred as a power allocation problem. In this research, singular value decomposition (SVD) is used to decouple the MIMO system in the presence of channel state information (CSI) at the base station and forms parallel channels between base station and mobile station. This practice parallel channel ensures the simultaneous transmission of parallel data streams between base station and mobile station. Along with this, water filling algorithm is used in this research to allocate power to each data stream optimally. Further the relationship between the channel capacity of MIMO wireless system and the number of antennas at the base station and the mobile station is derived mathematically. The performance comparison of channel capacity for MIMO systems, both in the presence and absence of CSI is done. Finally, the effect of channel correlation because of antennas at the base stations and the mobile stations in the MIMO systems is also measured.

Ankara : The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Institute of Engineering and Sciences of Bilkent University, 1991.Thesis (Master's) -- Bilkent University, 1991.Includes bibliographical references leaves 42-43System identification algorithms are utilized in many practical and theoretical applications such as parameter estimation of sj'stems, adaptive control and signal processing . Least squares algorithm is one of the most popular algorithms in system identification, but it has some drawbacks such as large time consumption and small convergence rates. In this thesis, Gauss-Seidel method is implemented on recursive least squares algorithm and convergence behaviors of the resultant algorithms are analyzed. .Also in standard recursive least squares algorithm the excitation of modes are monitored using data matrices and this algorithm is accordingly altered. A parallel scheme is proposed in this analysis for efficient computation of the modes. The simulation results are also presented.Malaş, AtillaM.S

Abstract. The future 5G mobile network technology is expected to offer significantly better performance than its predecessors. Improved data rates in conjunction with low latency is believed to enable technological revolutions such as self-driving cars. To achieve faster data rates, MIMO systems can be utilized. These systems enable the use of spatial filtering technique known as beamforming. Beamforming that is based on the preacquired channel matrix is computationally very demanding causing challenges in achieving low latency. By acquiring the channel matrix as efficiently as possible, we can facilitate this challenge. In this thesis we examined the implementation of channel estimation algorithm for beamforming with a digital signal processor specialized in vector computation. We present implementations for different antenna configurations based on three different approaches. The results show that the best performance is achieved by applying the algorithm according to the limitations given by the system and the processor architecture. Although the exploitation of the parallel architecture was proved to be challenging, the implementation of the algorithm would have benefitted from the greater amount of parallelism. The current parallel resources will be a challenge especially in the future as the size of antenna configurations is expected to grow.Keilanmuodostuksen tarvitseman kanavaestimointialgoritmin tehokas toteutus. Tiivistelmä. Tulevan viidennen sukupolven mobiiliverkkoteknologian odotetaan tarjoavan merkittävästi edeltäjäänsä parempaa suorituskykyä. Tämän suorituskyvyn tarjoamat suuret datanopeudet yhdistettynä pieneen latenssiin uskotaan mahdollistavan esimerkiksi itsestään ajavat autot. Suurempien datanopeuksien saavuttamiseksi voidaan hyödyntää monitiekanavassa käytettävää MIMO-systeemiä, joka mahdollistaa keilanmuodostuksena tunnetun spatiaalisen suodatusmenetelmän käytön. Etukäteen hankittuun kanavatilatietoon perustuva keilanmuodostus on laskennallisesti erittäin kallista. Tämä aiheuttaa haasteita verkon pienen latenssivaatimuksen saavuttamisessa. Tässä työssä tutkittiin keilanmuodostukselle tarkoitetun kanavaestimointialgoritmin tehokasta toteutusta hyödyntäen vektorilaskentaan erikoistunutta prosessoriarkkitehtuuria. Työssä esitellään kolmea eri lähestymistapaa hyödyntävät toteutukset eri kokoisille antennikonfiguraatioille. Tuloksista nähdään, että paras suorituskyky saavutetaan sovittamalla algoritmi järjestelmän ja arkkitehtuurin asettamien rajoitusten mukaisesti. Vaikka rinnakkaisarkkitehtuurin hyödyntäminen asetti omat haasteensa, olisi algoritmin toteutus hyötynyt suuremmasta rinnakkaisuuden määrästä. Nykyinen rinnakkaisuuden määrä tulee olemaan haaste erityisesti tulevaisuudessa, sillä antennikonfiguraatioiden koon odotetaan kasvavan

Wireless technologies have been advancing rapidly, especially in the recent years. Design, implementation, and manufacturing of devices supporting the continuously evolving technologies require great efforts. Thus, building platforms compatible with different generations of standards and technologies has gained a lot of interest. As a result, software defined radios (SDRs) are investigated to offer more flexibility and scalability, and reduce the design efforts, compared to the conventional fixed-function hardware-based solutions. This thesis mainly addresses the challenges related to SDR-based implementation of today’s wireless devices. One of the main targets of most of the wireless standards has been to improve the achievable data rates, which imposes strict requirements on the processing platforms. Realizing real-time processing of high throughput signal processing algorithms using SDR-based platforms while maintaining energy consumption close to conventional approaches is a challenging topic that is addressed in this thesis.Firstly, this thesis concentrates on the challenges of a real-time software-based implementation for the very high throughput (VHT) Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11ac amendment from the wireless local area networks (WLAN) family, where an SDR-based solution is introduced for the frequency-domain baseband processing of a multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) transmitter and receiver. The feasibility of the implementation is evaluated with respect to the number of clock cycles and the consumed power. Furthermore, a digital front-end (DFE) concept is developed for the IEEE 802.11ac receiver, where the 80 MHz waveform is divided to two 40 MHz signals. This is carried out through time-domain digital filtering and decimation, which is challenging due to the latency and cyclic prefix (CP) budget of the receiver. Different multi-rate channelization architectures are developed, and the software implementation is presented and evaluated in terms of execution time, number of clock cycles, power, and energy consumption on different multi-core platforms.Secondly, this thesis addresses selected advanced techniques developed to realize inband fullduplex (IBFD) systems, which aim at improving spectral efficiency in today’s congested radio spectrum. IBFD refers to concurrent transmission and reception on the same frequency band, where the main challenge to combat is the strong self-interference (SI). In this thesis, an SDRbased solution is introduced, which is capable of real-time mitigation of the SI signal. The implementation results show possibility of achieving real-time sufficient SI suppression under time-varying environments using low-power, mobile-scale multi-core processing platforms. To investigate the challenges associated with SDR implementations for mobile-scale devices with limited processing and power resources, processing platforms suitable for hand-held devices are selected in this thesis work. On the baseband processing side, a very long instruction word (VLIW) processor, optimized for wireless communication applications, is utilized. Furthermore, in the solutions presented for the DFE processing and the digital SI canceller, commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) multi-core central processing units (CPUs) and graphics processing units (GPUs) are used with the aim of investigating the performance enhancement achieved by utilizing parallel processing.Overall, this thesis provides solutions to the challenges of low-power, and real-time software-based implementation of computationally intensive signal processing algorithms for the current and future communications systems
