Human Computer Interaction (HCI) research and in particular USAbility aspects for cardiovascular disease (CVD) health monitoring  application  in  the  developing  countries  have  been  an  underresearch phenomenon.  In  the  era  of digitization, heart patients are relying more on cardiovascular disease (CVD) health monitoring applications on mobile devices to monitor their hearts' conditions. In order for the applications to be USAble by the CVD patients, several USAbility aspects such as ease of use, learnability, effectiveness, flexibility and attitude of users are imperative in determining the USAbility of the applications. This research investigates the integration of USAbility aspects into CVD health monitoring application by USAbility engineers and system developers. This research employs Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method on USAbility aspects of CVD health monitoring applications. This research proposes a conceptual model called the Usability of Cardiovascular Health Monitoring Application Model (uCALM). The model aims to improve the USAbility aspects of CVD health monitoring application for the benefits of the patients and their cardiologists

Heart disease is a leading cause of death at this era of globalization. The paper describes a heart disease detection using mobile phone and wireless sensor networks. The emergence of wearable sensor and wireless mobile technologies enable to detect and monitor the changes in health parameters irrespective of places and time. In addition, a prototype is developed that capable of wirelessly monitoring and real-time diagnosis of patient to solve the critical issue that the patientsβ€Ÿ activities is restricted with the dangling wire and weight of the electrocardiogram machine. It will be much more convenience for the patient to do a self-test diagnosis by using a wireless heart monitoring device. This prototype aims to use low cost implementation and provides reliable heartbeat monitoring result. This kind of real-time assistive medical diagnosis system consists of pulse sensor

The observation mechanisms dealing with pressure, flow, morphology, temperature, etc. are discussed. The approach taken in the performance of this study was to (1) review ground and space-flight data on cardiovascular function, including earlier related ground-based and space-flight animal studies, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, and recent bed-rest studies, (2) review cardiovascular measurement parameters required to assess individual performance and physiological alternations during space flight, (3) perform an instrumentation survey including a literature search as well as personal contact with the applicable investigators, (4) assess instrumentation applicability with respect to the established criteria, and (5) recommend future research and development activity. It is concluded that, for the most part, the required instrumentation technology is available but that mission-peculiar criteria will require modifications to adapt the applicable instrumentation to a space-flight configuration

Current situation and research prospect of home monitoring technology for cardiovascular system

    Get PDF
Cardiovascular disease has become the leading cause of death in China. Home medical monitoring of cardiovascular circulatory system (cardiovascular system for short) is of great significance for the early detection, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Physiological parameters of the cardiovascular system mainly include blood pressure, cardiac output, blood glucose content, blood oxygen saturation, ECG, respiration, etc. These physiological parameters need long-term daily monitoring to find the abnormalities and changes of the system. Therefore, home medical monitoring is necessary. This paper reviews the current situation of home monitoring technology for the main parameters of cardiovascular system in recent years, and prospects its future research trend

Proceeding of: 29th Annual International Conference of IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, (EMBS 2007), Lyon, France, 23-26th august 2007.Remote patient monitoring in e-Health is everyday closer to be a mature technology / service. However, there is still a lack of development in areas such as standardization of the sensor’s communication interface, integration into Electronic Healthcare Record systems or incorporation in ambient-intelligent scenarios. This work identifies a set of use cases involved in the personal monitoring scenario and highlights the related features and functionalities, as well as the integration and implementation difficulties found when these are to be implemented in a system based on the ISO/IEEE11073 (X73) standard. It is part of a cooperative research effort devoted to the development of an end-to-end standards-based telemonitoring solution. Standardization committees are working towards adapting the X73 standard to this emerging personal health devices market and use case identification is essential to direct these revisions. This research work has been partially supported by projects TSI2005-07068-C02-01 and TSI2004-04940-C02-01 from Ministerio de EducaciΓ³n y Ciencia (Spanish Government), and a personal grant to both M.Galarraga and M.
