    A Layered Software Architecture for the Management of a Manufacturing Company

    In this paper we describe a layered software architecture in the management of a manufactur-ing company that intensively uses computer technology. Application tools, new and legacy, after the updating, operate in a context of an open web oriented architecture. The software architecture enables the integration and interoperability among all tools that support business processes. Manufacturing Executive System and Text Mining tools are excellent interfaces, the former both for internal production and management processes and the latter for external processes coming from the market.     Assessing and augmenting SCADA cyber security: a survey of techniques

    SCADA systems monitor and control critical infrastructures of national importance such as power generation and distribution, water supply, transportation networks, and manufacturing facilities. The pervasiveness, miniaturisations and declining costs of internet connectivity have transformed these systems from strictly isolated to highly interconnected networks. The connectivity provides immense benefits such as reliability, scalability and remote connectivity, but at the same time exposes an otherwise isolated and secure system, to global cyber security threats. This inevitable transformation to highly connected systems thus necessitates effective security safeguards to be in place as any compromise or downtime of SCADA systems can have severe economic, safety and security ramifications. One way to ensure vital asset protection is to adopt a viewpoint similar to an attacker to determine weaknesses and loopholes in defences. Such mind sets help to identify and fix potential breaches before their exploitation. This paper surveys tools and techniques to uncover SCADA system vulnerabilities.     Automated testing of mobile devices

    The aim was to study the automated testing of mobile devices to assess the challenges that have to be faced and to find solutions to those problems as well as to perform an automated testing and to evaluate its effectiveness. The theoretical part discusses testing in general and the testing types. The importance of quality assurance in every engineering process is highlighted. It is presented how the subsequent stages of the testing process had been done. Each chapter describes the tester’s tasks and what needs to be considered when performing them. Typical problems are discussed and some advices on how to avoid those problems are given. During the study many new automation scripts were created. Those were successfully used to perform an automated reliability testing of many products. Based on the knowledge that was gained, the assigner’s instructions on how to perform automated testing were updated. The testing environment was evaluated and the ideas for improvements proposed. The reporting process was improved by implementing several tools that help to handle the logs produced during the testing round

    A distributed framework for the control and cooperation of heterogeneous mobile robots in smart factories.

Manufacturers are now challenged with the problem of not being able to capture market share and gain higher profits by producing large volumes of the same product to a mass market. Some businesses have implemented mass customisation manufacturing (MCM) techniques as a solution to this problem, where customised products are produced rapidly while keeping the costs at a mass production level. In addition to this, the arrival of the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) enables the possibility of establishing the decentralised intelligence of embedded devices to detect and respond to real-time variations in the MCM factory. One of the key pillars in the Industry 4.0, smart factory concept is Advanced Robotics. This includes cooperation and control within multiple heterogeneous robot networks, which increases flexibility in the smart factory and enables the ability to rapidly reconfigure systems to adapt to variations in consumer product demand. Another benefit in these systems is the reduction of production bottleneck conditions where robot services must be coordinated efficiently so that high levels of productivity are maintained. This study focuses on the research, design and development of a distributed framework that would aid researchers in implementing algorithms for controlling the task goals of heterogeneous mobile robots, to achieve robot cooperation and reduce bottlenecks in a production environment. The framework can be used as a toolkit by the end-user for developing advanced algorithms that can be simulated before being deployed in an actual system, thereby fast prototyping the system integration process.
