    The Effectiveness of Using Padlet in Teaching Writing Descriptive Text

    This study was investigated the effects of Padlet on students\u27 descriptive text writing of Senior High School students as well as to find out their perceptions of using Padlet for learning descriptive text writing. In doing so, the subjects consisted of 54 students who were in tenth grade. Then they were divided into two equal experimental and control groups (N=27). Their age ranged between 16 and 17 years old. Gender of participants was not considered as a variable in the study. This study used convergent parallel mixed-method whereas pre-test and post-test were administrated to collect quantitative data and questionnaire was given to collect qualitative data. The experimental group was taught descriptive text writing via Padlet application, whereas the control group was taught by conventional media. Analyzing the data through the independent sample t-test revealed that with the help of Padlet application, the experimental group outperformed the control group in terms of writing descriptive text. Furthermore, the students had a positive attitude toward utilization of Padlet application

    Towards a Holistic Approach to Designing Theory-based Mobile Health Interventions

    Increasing evidence has shown that theory-based health behavior change interventions are more effective than non-theory-based ones. However, only a few segments of relevant studies were theory-based, especially the studies conducted by non-psychology researchers. On the other hand, many mobile health interventions, even those based on the behavioral theories, may still fail in the absence of a user-centered design process. The gap between behavioral theories and user-centered design increases the difficulty of designing and implementing mobile health interventions. To bridge this gap, we propose a holistic approach to designing theory-based mobile health interventions built on the existing theories and frameworks of three categories: (1) behavioral theories (e.g., the Social Cognitive Theory, the Theory of Planned Behavior, and the Health Action Process Approach), (2) the technological models and frameworks (e.g., the Behavior Change Techniques, the Persuasive System Design and Behavior Change Support System, and the Just-in-Time Adaptive Interventions), and (3) the user-centered systematic approaches (e.g., the CeHRes Roadmap, the Wendel's Approach, and the IDEAS Model). This holistic approach provides researchers a lens to see the whole picture for developing mobile health interventions

    Driver’s Distraction and Understandability of Using GPS Navigation

    GPS navigation is available on smartphone application providing turn-by-turn navigation instruction on smartphones and the distraction from GPS usage while driving also became an issue. In this paper, we present the strategy to mitigate the level of distraction by manipulating the type of display visual (2D and 3D) and placement (right, steer and left). We conducted field experiments in left-hand real traffic with 12 subjects. Our result illustrated that 3D conditions implied much fewer frequency of eye glances (FOG) than 2D conditions. Furthermore, steer conditions has much higher FOG than right and left placement conditions, but we found no significant effects on the ease of understanding (EOU) for visual display difference and the number of error for all conditions

    A Substruction Approach to Assessing the Theoretical Validity of Measures

    Background Validity is about the logic, meaningfulness, and evidence used to defend inferences made when interpreting results. Substruction is a heuristic or process that visually represent the hierarchical structure between theory and measures. Purpose To describe substruction as a method for assessing the toretical validity of research measures. Methods Using Fawcett\u27s Conceptual-Theoretical-Empirical Structure. an exemplar is presented of substruction from the Individual and Family Self-Management Theory to the Striving to be strong study concepts and empirical measures. Results Substruction tables display evidence supporting theoretical validity of the instruments used in the study. Conclusion A high degree of congruence between theory and measure is critical to support the validity of the theory and to support attributions made about moderating, mediating, causal relationships, and intervention effects

    Measuring Mobile User Experience Instruments for Research and Practice

    User experience (UX) research focuses in large part on how users subjectively evaluate digital products, services, and software. In the mobile computing domain, however, UX researchers currently face limitations in the multifaceted measures that they can apply to assess specific mobile device and software combinations. Currently available measures can produce only single-score usability measures (e.g., the well-known system usability scale and its variants) or cover only a part of the mobile device-software user experience (e.g., the recently developed mobile application usability instrument). This paper adds two multifaceted survey instruments to the toolkit of UX researchers and practitioners: the mobile user experience (MUX) instrument, a 15-item instrument tailored toward scholarly research, and the short-form sMUX, a six-item instrument intended for use in practical settings or other situations where survey length is constrained
