Dizertační práce je zaměřena na softwarově definované přijímače určené k úzkopásmové družicové komunikaci. Komunikační kanály družicových spojů zahrnujících komunikaci s hlubokým vesmírem jsou zatíženy vysokými úrovněmi šumu, typicky modelovaného AWGN, a silným Dopplerovým posuvem signálu způsobeným mimořádnou rychlostí pohybu objektu. Dizertační práce představuje možné postupy řešení výpočetně efektivní digitální downkonverze úzkopásmových signálů a systému odhadu kmitočtu nosné úzkopásmových signálů zatížených Dopplerovým posuvem v řádu násobků šířky pásma signálu. The dissertation is focused on software defined receivers intended for narrowband satellite communication. The satellite communication channel including deep space communication suffers from a high level of noise, typically modeled by AWGN, and from a strong Doppler shift of a signal caused by the unprecedented speed of an object in motion. The dissertation shows possible approaches to the issues of computationally efficient digital downconversion of narrowband signals and the carrier frequency estimation of narrowband signals distorted by the Doppler shift in the order of multiples of the signal bandwidth. The description of the proposed algorithms includes an analytical approach of its development and, if possible, the analytical performance assessment. The algorithms are modeled in MATLAB Simulink and the models are used for validating the performance by the simulation. The models were also used for experimental tests on the real signal received from the PSAT satellite at the laboratory of experimental satellites at the department of radio electronics.

Low power all-digital radio-over-fiber transmission for 28-GHz band using parallel electro-absorption modulators

We present a low-power all-digital radio-over-fiber (RoF) transmitter for the 28 GHz band using sigma-delta modulation. Using a parallel electro-absorption modulator (EAM) structure, the radio signal upconversion is split between the electrical and the optical domains. This halves the maximum bandwidth requirement of the driver circuit with respect to conventional implementations. Furthermore, the effect of chromatic dispersion can be mitigated by tuning the optical phase and amplitude applied to the individual modulators, such that transmission notches are partially removed. The modulator structure is described using simplified models and verified in VPI TransmissionMaker. Experimental results using a 140 mW non-return-to-zero (NRZ) driver and parallel EAMs are provided and yield an error vector magnitude (EVM) of 7.6% (5.2%) when transporting a radio signal modulated at 28 GHz with 5.25 Gb/s (2.625 Gb/s) 64-QAM over 10 km standard single mode fiber (SSMF) at 1560 nm

Wireless communications, i.e. radio-communications, are widely used for our different daily needs. Examples are numerous and standard names like BLUETOOTH, WiFI, WiMAX, UMTS, GSM and, more recently, LTE are well-known [Baudoin et al. 2007]. General applications in the RFID or UWB contexts are the subject of many papers. This chapter presents radio-frequency (RF) communication systems architecture for mobile, wireless local area networks (WLAN) and connectivity terminals. An important aspect of today's applications is the data rate increase, especially in connectivity standards like WiFI and WiMAX, because the user demands high Quality of Service (QoS). To increase the data rate we tend to use wideband or multi-standard architecture. The concept of software radio includes a self-reconfigurable radio link and is described here on its RF aspects. The term multi-radio is preferred. This chapter focuses on the transmitter, yet some considerations about the receiver are given. An important aspect of the architecture is that a transceiver is built with respect to the radio-communications signals. We classify them in section 2 by differentiating Continuous Wave (CW) and Impulse Radio (IR) systems. Section 3 is the technical background one has to consider for actual applications. Section 4 summarizes state-of-the-art high data rate architectures and the latest research in multi-radio systems. In section 5, IR architectures for Ultra Wide Band (UWB) systems complete this overview; we will also underline the coexistence and compatibility challenges between CW and IR systems

    Real-time 100-GS/s sigma-delta modulator for all-digital radio-over-fiber transmission

All-digital radio-over-fiber (RoF) transmission has attracted a significant amount of interest in digital-centric systems or centralized networks because it greatly simplifies the front-end hardware by using digital processing. The sigma-delta modulator (SDM)-based all-digital RoF approach pushes the digital signal processing as far as possible into the transmit chain. We present a real-time 100-GS/s fourth-order single-bit SDM for all-digital RoF transmission in the high-frequency band without the aid of analog/optical up-conversion. This is the fastest sigma-delta modulator reported and this is also the first real-time demonstration of sigma-delta-modulated RoF in the frequency band above 24 GHz. 4.68 Gb/s (2.34 Gb/s) 64-QAM is transported over 10-km standard single-mode fiber in the C-band with 6.46% (4.73%) error vector magnitude and 3.13 Gb/s 256-QAM can be even received in an optical back-to-back configuration. The carrier frequency can be digitally tuned at run-time, covering a wide frequency range from 22.75 to 27.5 GHz. Besides, this high-speed sigma-delta modulator introduces less than 1 mu s latency in the transmit chain. Its all-digital nature enables network virtualization, making the transmitter compatible with different existing standards. The prominent performance corroborates the strong competitiveness of this SDM-based RoF approach in high-frequency RoF 5C communication

Digital Signal Processing Techniques Applied to Radio over Fiber Systems

The dissertation aims to analyze different Radio over Fiber systems for the front-haul applications. Particularly, analog radio over fiber (A-RoF) are simplest and suffer from nonlinearities, therefore, mitigating such nonlinearities through digital predistortion are studied. In particular for the long haul A-RoF links, direct digital predistortion technique (DPDT) is proposed which can be applied to reduce the impairments of A-RoF systems due to the combined effects of frequency chirp of the laser source and chromatic dispersion of the optical channel. Then, indirect learning architecture (ILA) based structures namely memory polynomial (MP), generalized memory polynomial (GMP) and decomposed vector rotation (DVR) models are employed to perform adaptive digital predistortion with low complexities. Distributed feedback (DFB) laser and vertical capacity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) in combination with single mode/multi-mode fibers have been linearized with different quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) formats for single and multichannel cases. Finally, a feedback adaptive DPD compensation is proposed. Then, there is still a possibility to exploit the other realizations of RoF namely digital radio over fiber (D-RoF) system where signal is digitized and transmits the digitized bit streams via digital optical communication links. The proposed solution is robust and immune to nonlinearities up-to 70 km of link length. Lastly, in light of disadvantages coming from A-RoF and D-RoF, it is still possible to take only the advantages from both methods and implement a more recent form knows as Sigma Delta Radio over Fiber (S-DRoF) system. Second Order Sigma Delta Modulator and Multi-stAge-noise-SHaping (MASH) based Sigma Delta Modulator are proposed. The workbench has been evaluated for 20 MHz LTE signal with 256 QAM modulation. Finally, The 6x2 GSa/s sigma delta modulators are realized on FPGA to show a real time demonstration of S-DRoF system. The demonstration shows that S-DRoF is a competitive competitor for 5G sub-6GHz band applications
