    Generating cycle time-throughput curves using effective process time based aggregate modeling

    In semiconductor manufacturing, cycle time-throughput(CT-TH) curves are often used for planning purposes.To generate CT-TH curves, detailed simulation models or analytical queueing approximations may be used. Detailed models require much development time and computational effort. On the other hand, analytical models, such as the popular closed-form G/G/m queueing expression, may not be sufficiently accurate, inparticular for integrated processing equipment that have wafers of more than one lot in process. Recently, an aggregate simulation model representation ofworkstations with integrated processing equipment has been proposed. This aggregate model is a G=G=m type of system with a workload-dependent process time distribution, which is obtained from lot arrival and departure events. This paper presents a first proof of concept of the method in semiconductor practice. We develop the required extensions to generate CT-THcurves for workstations in a semiconductor manufacturing environment where usually only a limited amount of arrival and departure data is available. We present a simulation and an industry case to illustrate the proposed method

Our discussions are based on numerous theoretical approaches starting from first principle methods and continuing with discussions based on more well stablished methods such as Drift-Diffusion, Monte Carlo and Non-Equilibrium Green’s Function formalism

    Semiconductor manufacturing simulation design and analysis with limited data

    This paper discusses simulation design and analysis for Silicon Carbide (SiC) manufacturing operations management at New York Power Electronics Manufacturing Consortium (PEMC) facility. Prior work has addressed the development of manufacturing system simulation as the decision support to solve the strategic equipment portfolio selection problem for the SiC fab design [1]. As we move into the phase of collecting data from the equipment purchased for the PEMC facility, we discuss how to redesign our manufacturing simulations and analyze their outputs to overcome the challenges that naturally arise in the presence of limited fab data. We conclude with insights on how an approach aimed to reflect learning from data can enable our discrete-event stochastic simulation to accurately estimate the performance measures for SiC manufacturing at the PEMC facility

    Aerospace Manufacturing Industry: A Simulation-Based Decision Support Framework for the Scheduling of Complex Hoist Lines

    The hoist scheduling problem is a critical issue in the design and control of Automated Manufacturing Systems. To deal with the major complexities appearing in such problem, this work introduces an advanced simulation model to represent the short-term scheduling of complex hoist lines. The aim is to find the best jobs schedule that minimizing the makespan while maximizing throughput with no defective outputs. Several hard constraints are considered in the model: single shared hoist, heterogeneous recipes, eventual recycles flows, and no buffers between workstations. Different heuristic-based strategies are incorporated into the computer model in order to improve the solutions generated over time. The alternative solutions can be quickly evaluated by using a graphical user interface developed together with the simulation model.Fil: Basán, Natalia Paola.     A Manufacturer Design Kit for Multi-Chip Power Module Layout Synthesis

    The development of Multi-Chip Power Modules (MCPMs) has been a key factor in recent advancements in power electronics technologies. MCPMs achieve higher power density by combining multiple power semiconductor devices into one package. The work detailed in this thesis is part of an ongoing project to develop a computer-aided design software tool known as PowerSynth for MCPM layout synthesis and optimization. This thesis focuses on the definition and design of a Manufacturer Design Kit (MDK) for PowerSynth, which enables the designer to design an MCPM for a manufacturer’s fabrication process. The MDK is comprised of a layer stack and technology library, design rule checking (DRC), and layout versus schematic checking. File formats have been defined for layer stack and design rule input, and import functions have been written and integrated with the existing user interface and data structures to allow PowerSynth to accept these file formats as a form of input. Finally, an exhaustive DRC function has been implemented to allow the designer to verify that a synthesized layout meets all design rules before committing the design to manufacturing. This function was validated by running DRC on an example layout solution using two different sets of design rules
